This week we explore a phrase that excites and enrages in equal measure = NFTs. As the digital frontier continues to evolve, NFTs have emerged as both a revolutionary concept and a contentious topic. But what exactly are they? We break it down in the simplest terms, exploring the very essence of "non-fungible" and how it's changing the way we view assets, both digital and physical. Join me as I delve into the hype, highlighting the empowerment and transparency NFTs offer to creators and innovators. But it's defintely not all rosy... We also confront the hate, shedding light on the controversies and scams that have tainted the NFT landscape. Yet, amidst the skepticism, there's hope. We wrap up with a look at the promising future of NFTs, showcasing successful projects that hint at the potential of this digital phenomenon. It is certainly my hope that this episode helps to balance the NFT debate, offering a comprehensive, unbiased, and educational perspective on one of the most talked-about topics in the web3 space. Whether you're an NFT enthusiast or skeptic, this episode promises insights that will both inform and provoke thought.Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.

The announcement of PayPal launching their own stable coin - PYUSD  has been met with a wide range of reactions within the payments and crypto space. Some have dismissed it as a poor alternative to products already on the market, while others describe it as a step-change in the move towards digital currencies becoming a dominant means of payment. As always, the truth tends to lie somewhere in the middle, and so in this episode we explore 1) What is a stable coin, 2) Why PayPal are getting involved and 3) How this could lead to the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies. The football season is back and to celebrate, this episode takes a deep dive into FC Barcelona’s recent €120m investment from Libero Football Finance AG and private investors advised by NIPA Capital…What is super interesting with this investment is how the headlines read: “FC Barcelona secures €120m war chest for Web3 initiative” But… When you look beneath the surface, it’s super clear that these deals are actually focused on helping Barcelona to sign new players and meet their financial plan submitted to La Liga. So what’s really going on here? Listen to discover how Barcelona are leveraging their Brand, IP and digital content strategy to eradicate the challenges of today, whilst building towards a brighter tomorrow!P.S - We know, we know… This episode is a whopping 7 minutes - not 3 minutes… It was a great tagline and concept but the reality, time flies when you’re in Web3. Moving forward, we will be scrapping the 3 minute tagline and instead, we will focus on being the “the byte-sized podcast exploring Web3”. So (hopefully) insightful quick deep dives between 5-10 minutes.Just don’t hold us to that 😂Sources for the podcast and content include (but not limited to):https://www.socios.com/fc-barcelona-to-accelerate-web3-strategy-as-socios-com-invests-100m-in-barca-studios/https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomsanderson/2023/08/11/fc-barcelona-announce-new-120-million-economic-lever-to-register-buy-new-players/https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomsanderson/2023/07/04/fc-barcelonas-economic-levers-partners-fail-to-pay-up-reports/ https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/fc-barcelonas-unit-to-list-in-us-via-$1-bln-spac-deal https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/fc-barcelonas-unit-to-list-in-us-via-$1-bln-spac-deal Correction: In the podcast, the host details Barcelona have sold 49% of future broadcasting rights. This is not correct. Barcelona have sold 25% of future broadcasting rights to investment firm Sixth Street for 25 years. This was confused as FC Barcelona have sold 49% of its digital content business and have authorised the sale of 49% of their Licensing and Merchandise business. Thank you for listening. E4 - The Epic One

E4 - The Epic One

This episode of Web3s comes to you from sunny North Carolina, USA and so I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to share with you one of my favourite companies in the world - Epic Games. There’s so much to love about this company, whether it’s:Tim Sweeney - the visionary founder and billionaire, who’s more likely to be found in Burger King than hanging out with other larger than life tech CEOs - and who is more than happy to challenge the status quo if it helps to create a more open and equitable internet…or the awesome Unreal Engine which now powers thousands of the best 3D multiplayer games or  global phenomenon that is Fortnite. What I love about Epic is how from the very beginning, they always looked to reduce friction and maximise fun and openness. I also love how his very first game ZZT is based on the idea of rooms… Which he shares in the following quote:“I could turn this text editor into a little game. Similar to Atari Adventure, I based it on rooms. Each screen full of text became a room. I had different graphical characters represent different gameplay behaviours. Suddenly you could build a text document and hit the play button in this editor and now you’re up and running with your game.” Sweeney made ZZT available to customers with the first ‘room’ (disk 1) being completely free and if you enjoyed it, you could then buy 3 other rooms to play.  This freemium type model was way before it’s time - as was the fact that you could edit the game to create your own rooms given that it was created via a text editor - so an early precursor to the creator games and platforms we now see exploding. So this episode is a big one and unfortunately means we are not going to hit that 3 minute marker with this one. But it’s definitely worth 7 minutes of your life. Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.
Across the Summer of ‘22, my social gaming start up Popmoji Rooms was selected by Web3 investor Outlier Ventures for investment and to join their intensive 12 week accelerator programme - Basecamp. As a team, we are deeply passionate about the ideals and mission of web3, and what really stood Outlier Ventures apart, is their commitment to funding and supporting an open ecosystem that helps to deliver a more open and inclusive internet. That being said, we were also conscious of the market and how web3 was becoming saturated by ‘opportunistic’ projects (to put it politely), with lots of NFT projects and token sales launched which clearly were not going to deliver on the wild promises of the founders. We did not not want to get caught up in and/or associated with any of that.In this podcast, I share my experience of Web3 VC and our crazy beautiful journey. Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.
It’s the summer of 2023 and I’m going to say it. I’m going to the use the M word…The Metaverse. The most overused word of 2022 is now almost taboo and if you listened to the media - the Metaverse is dead. In this podcast, I want us to get specific about what we mean when we say or think about the Metaverse. If we can get specific, I believe it’s clear to see the early Metaverse is already here and fast growing.  Moreover, if we look back at our recent history, there are clues which highlight that we are approaching an intersectional moment that will create a massive paradigm shift and will disrupt the social media status quo. Let’s dive in.Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.
Welcome to Web Three’s… The three minute podcast which is on a mission to explore all things web3.In this episode, I share how my two babies - my son and my start up - led me to web3 and give you a taste of what you can expect from the first series. It’s going to be a fun journey and one which I hope, will help to demystify web3, blockchain and (dare I say it) the metaverse - by keeping it super simple. There’s a lot of great stuff going that gets overlooked by the hype and techno babble - and so this show is for those looking for real world examples and actionable insights. Let’s go!Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.
Mark Zuckerberg could not be further from the ‘pin up boy’ for Web3 but interestingly, the reality is, with the launch of Threads - the Twitter style messaging social app - Zuckerberg may be the gatekeeper.  Join me to explore why Zuckerberg (love him or hate him) may be about to introduce the masses to the magic of web3. Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed the episode, I would be honoured if you would subscribe to the podcast.
