We also talk with a teacher/student team of artists from the Pleasant Valley High Art Department whose paintings celebrate the renewal of nature following the devastation wrought by North State fires.
On 9/7 we visit the Sutter County Museum in Yuba City to talk with the curator of the current exhibition "Structures" with works by an array of artists. We also go to Chico's Blue Room Theatre to talk with the writer-producer of a world-premiere musical about the funny world of retail sales.
We talk with Josh Hegg from Uncle Dad's Art Collective about the group's upcoming event in Chico, Weaverville, Orland and Redding -- "Small Town Big Sound 2018" which showcases 15 northstate singer-songwriters, backing up their performances with a big band orchestra. We also talk with two people from the creative team behind "The Butcher Shop," the only-in-Chico festival of original experimental plays and art-creations, happening Labor Day weekend.
We talk with the curator of the University Art Gallery at Chico State about the current exhibition of intriguing, sometimes whimsical creations by a local Vietnamese-American artist. We also talk with the organizers of next month's Outdoor Art Festival at which artists are invited to an outdoor location to create paintings of the place on-the-spot.
We visit two arts destinations in Redding. At Riverfront Playhouse, we talk with the director & the teenage cast from "The Outsiders," a stage adaptation of the popular young-adult novel about violent conflicts between poor teens and rich teens in the 1960s. At Armando's Gallery House, we talk with the proprietor of this art-venue/restaurant, about the range of artwork on display there.
On 8/3 we visit Theatre on the Ridge in Paradise to talk with the writer-director and the cast from the current production "Radioland's Back to the Beach," a variety show in the style of an old-time radio broadcast, including songs, comedy, serial chapters with wild characters and an audience-interactive game-show.
We talk with the director and cast from "The Wolves," a Pulitzer Prize nominated drama about nine young women on a high school soccer team, facing the pressures and exhilarations of life. The play is produced by Slow Theatre (the organization that also puts together Chico's popular theatrical event the Butcher Shop). "The Wolves" will be on stage the first weekend in August at 1078 Gallery in its brand new location on Park Avenue in Chico.
We visit MoNCA (Museum of Northern California Art) in Chico to talk with the board president Pat Macias. The museum is celebrating its one-year anniversary of moving into its permanent location at the Chico Veterans Memorial Hall, and to celebrating with a street party. In conjunction with the outdoor party, the museum is opening an exhibition of murals and graffiti art. Also on our show, we'll play songs from the top- selling album in the nation, which amazingly is a cast recording of a musical
On 7/13 we visit Chico Theater Company to talk with director and actors from "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, " a collection of musical theater sketches about contemporary life and love. We also talk with a teacher from Yuba City High about a ceramic mural made by her students, a mural about the life-cycle of salmon, for display at the Feather River Fish Hatchery.
We visit two viual-art venues in Chico. We explore the current exhibition of finely observed views of a garden and flowers painted by watercolorist Candy Matthews.. We also talk with the proprietors of the James Snidle Gallery which is closing at the end of this year. We'll hear about exhibits planned for the final six months -- artshows that include a showcase of paintings by the late revered artist Ann Pierce.
