Pastor Micah brings another “Christian Jargon” sermon, this time deconstructing the topic of forgiveness through one of the New Testament’s most important texts on that subject (Matthew 18:21-35). Forgiveness often is not as cut and dried as this text makes it sound, but this text (and the end of Matthew’s Gospel) point us in the right direction!

Reconciliation often looks like a huge effort–maybe even humanly impossible; however, it is already happening because it is what God has always done and continues to do in the world today.

Peter said the right words in his confession, but he didn’t yet understand what his words meant–we look into that using the famous question from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism: “What does this mean?”

In this story, Jesus gives the disciple Peter a lot of responsibility to lead the church, and it’s amazing how much Jesus trusts Peter with this!

Sermon from our August 20, 2017 (Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost) worship service. Pastor Micah preaches on Matthew 15:21-28, the challenging story of Jesus’ rough interaction with a Canaanite woman. Kind of like the Windows 10 operating system, the Holy Spirit is persistent about updates - updating our human “operating systems” to improve our ability and desire to demonstrate hospitality and share God’s love with other people.
Sermon from our August 13, 2017 (Tenth Sunday after Pentecost) worship service. Pastor Micah preaches on Matthew 14:22-33, Matthew’s version of the story of Jesus walking on water. Peter also walks on water in this story, likely because he does not yet trust the “refrain” of the Gospel of Matthew - that Jesus is Emmanuel (God with us).
