The Russian Revolution, and the civil war that followed in the east stired up international problems as well, and in Ireland the strife of Independece were ever present. The guest, Lindsay Powell, completely misses the idea of adoption in Rome. This is not an adoption in the modern sense in which an adopted child would be raised by their adopted parent. It is to confer an inheritance on the child. By adopting Agrippa's children, who were Augustus' grandchildren, Augustus was setting them up to be the next emperor of Rome. Unfortunately, because of Livia's meddling and machinations, her son, Tiberius, no blood relation to Augustus at all, had that honor.
