West Cork
Description
In West Cork, it’s simply known as ‘the murder’. In 1996 French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier is found dead near her holiday home. There are no witnesses and no known motive. The police suspect one man in this community but they can’t make a charge stick and he refuses to leave, living under the glare of suspicion ever since.
This series brings together an incredible cast of characters, many of whom have never spoken publicly before. The family of the victim bring to life a woman lost; the suspect puts forward his defence; and local people explain what it’s like to have the living embodiment of their unsettled nerves still resolutely among them. Reported and hosted by Jennifer Forde and Sam Bungey.

- “The hosts beautifully communicate how a tragedy can impact a town and its people in devastating ways.” Time magazine
- “Meticulous and thoughtful … The podcast is vastly more soulful than so many of its peers, in large part by functioning as an exploration of how a tragedy, mixed with spectacle, can redefine and consume the terms of a place, a person, and a time." Nick Quah, Vulture
- “One of the few podcasts that caused us to drive in pointless extra loops in total silence, just so we could hear another episode. West Cork is the new Serial. It may even be better.” India Knight, The Times
- "Knocked me out like no other podcast since S-Town. A masterpiece." Patrick Radden Keefe, author of Say Nothing

Ian may not be a good person, but there is next to no objective evidence that he had anything to do with this. It's a waste of time and a red herring. The Police simply failed Sophie, and the investigation was terrible from the start.
Ian is a complete narcissist. definitely done it. partner is covering up
so the French say if you get interrogated by them rough style so they beat you for two days straight you might confess. sounds like wonderful system
whole story shows what happens when a bunch of nosy people with no real jobs living on the Dole sit around trying to gossip all day long. West Cork would seem like a nice place but I would never visit after hearing how nutty the people are
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am so very sorry for the family's loss. That is what I am definitely sure of.
imagine if he didn't do it!
IANS PARTNER IS COVERING UP FOR HIM
IAN YOUR GUILTY
Excellent Podcast. Guilty as sin.
Well put together podcasts on a murder
superb podcast, really enjoyed it. such a fascinating case.
"I don't mean to shift the blame" says dude before doing exactly that. I don't know if he killed Sophie de Plantier. But he is BY HIS OWN WORDS a man who beats women and then victim blames them.
why are episodes 2 to 6 missing?
This is a fascinating podcast. However, Ian sounds exactly like David St. Hubbins from Spinal Tap.
loved this podcast. cant wait for further podcasts from yarn fm
Amazing series ,well done to all.
The man is a narcissist but the mob is not judged and jury. The French court is equally narcissistic. There is not a shred of evidence that he’s guilty.
...it's like the casket cannot be closed. #britspeak
Fantastic podcast. Well made and the case is baffling!
This is a brilliant podcast.
