Mike's journey to Pavey Ark from Llandudno triggered a lot of memories of the North West. You might even think that Place roulette was a fix - it isn't. Mike is a true Maps fan - it was a pleasure to discuss his work with maps and get some insight in how he would make this journey as a mapping professional.
Katie brought some interesting ideas about Rich Pictures and navigating uncertainty (with Camels) in this episode as she journeyed from Walvis Bay to Llandudno Pier. We used Katie's expertise to carve out some thinking time and discussed, Mental Maps, Coaching, Hinterlands, Ecotones and the value of slow ways.
Managed to catch up with James who is on a mission with the Outward Bound Trust to give more young people an outdoor education. Cracking conversation about adventure, maps as a metaphor for life. Food and specifically fell food and the attitude of always exploring and adventuring - what else is there?
The CEO of The Survey Association Rachel sat down with me to talk music and adventure plotted clearly on a mapping background. A master of creativity and doing, it was a pleasure to talk to Rachel and create some sparks of ideas on how to promote our shared profession of Survey to a wider audience.
A shared interest of doing connected myself with Steve, who in his words, is someone that helps people to understand why their customers feel what they feel and do what they do. This is clearly a process that needs maps. Steve described his journey to the Isle of Wight and we touched lightly on climbing, politics and customer journey mapping.
Neil, a massive fan of simplyfying tech, raised himself from his deathbed to talk Baddie Core, Steam Punk and Fusion and linked it to maps, navigating and journeying bewteen Hallstatt in Austria to India's Taj Mahal. Off the cuff exploration in a pod - what more could you want?
The link was loose, but you should all know that the link is always loose in the What's the Point podcast. Justin is a Roadmap Hero. A seasoned product management and road mapping expert passinate about helping technology teams do their best work. Of course he loves Maps!
In my opinion Sean was SPAR back in the early days of Reality Capture. We last caught up for his Spatial Reality Podcast, but now the time was right to see how Sean would use maps to go from Portland in Maine to New Zealand, very spcifically, Fiordland in New Zealand.
Sam Dixon of CWAC Labour (currently dissolved), found time in her busy schedule to chat with me ahead of the big day on Thursday. We covered Boundaries, the NHS, Sewage, the imoprtance of Pragmatism in politics, why Kier is purposefully being boring and why Chester is the fabulous place that it is.
Chester South and Eddisbury's candidate for the General Election took time out to answer some low level questions about the Liberal Democrat outlook both nationally and locally. We touched on Proportional Representation, Connectivity (floats my boat), Education, Modern Languages, parades and discussed without saying it, exactly what the Romans have done for Chester. Great bloke, great chat
Maps or Politics? It's all Politics..... Nick braved the fresh breeze to talk through a few things with me about politics and specifically local politics in Chester. The format is simple, Favourite National Policy, Local Policy, Radio Station, Chester Event, Wort/most embarrassing National & local policy and the Highly recommended info source. Wondering if you'd vote Green and if they have more to offer than just legalising cannabis? Find out here.
Caught up with Dan Rossiter (E21), Claire Woodier (E19) and Iain Miskimmin (E15) for some Festive themed map related chat. Where was Chris Rea driving home from? How does Father Christmas avoid unwanted NORAD tracking for the rest of the year?
If you want to know anything about standards then Dan is the man. If you listen carefully you can hear the idea for Series 2 crystallising. A wonderful chat about maps with a true gentleman - I look forward to working with the CIAT's greatest self-confessed techno-nerd in the future!
I hijacked the Geoholics podcast at InterGEO in Berlin. Sean and Kent played along and shared some very honest and open issues in a safe space concerning maps. Prepare for amazing geo related confessions.
Me and the Grand Pie Master Flash (Claire Woodier) go way back. We would have first met in 1986 - and we agreed not to discuss it further as we realised it was MANY years ago and we shouldn't dwell on that age thing too long :-) It was a pleasure to hear about ClaireMarketChef's use of maps in her pursuit of the passion of food. A nod to DaveDraws, and some wonderful answers to the questions that matter in the world of maps and life. There's also some discussion referencing Madonna - it turns out that Claire may have acheived one of her life goals - listen to find out how!
Nick and I go back a long way. The head to head, Photogrammetry v Laser Scanning in 2006 was probably the first time he out-classsed me with his story-telling. He continues to do it today. Nick is a parallel entrepreneur, a wonderful thinker, and a passionate advocate for the wonders of outdoor education and outdoor work.
I was embarrassed to invite award winning radio producer Simon Ritchie on to the podcast, but I was certain he would dismiss my concerns and be up for the chat. I wasn't wrong. It was awesome. Maps and Radio. It's just a different interpretation of Space & Time.
Underground, Overground, Information for free! A great chat with Paul Shillcock of Operam. We stuck largely to the brief, but I'd expect that from someone that specialises in Information Management!
Iain, in my opinion, is the epitome of Get Sh!t Done. I know him from Comit Projects, Bentley Systems, and BIMBrew - “Pause, Brew, Sup.” He agreed to chat with me on location, and we enthused about maps. Warning - contains an admission of incompetence.
