In this deeply moving episode, Sharna sits down with Shruti Trivedi, ICF-ACC certified life coach and founder of Tulsi Heals Life Coaching, to discuss her journey through five pregnancies, three losses, and the 11-year path to finally addressing her grief.
Shruti shares the raw reality of her experiences—from terminating a pregnancy at nine weeks on New Year's Eve 2011 to delivering her identical twin boys at 23 weeks on her daughter's birthday after a rollercoaster journey through twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Most powerfully, she opens up about the years spent avoiding her grief, the panic attacks that kept resurfacing, and the transformative decision to finally seek therapy.
In This Episode, We Discuss:
The reality of pregnancy loss at different stages and how the body responds
Why "time heals" is only partially true—you must actively participate in your healing
Breaking through the stigma around mental health and therapy
The harmful phrases grieving mothers hear ("you can try again," "at least you have other children")
Why pregnancy losses often aren't recognized as "real" losses—and why that's so damaging
The importance of being vulnerable in front of your children
How seeking therapy isn't weakness—it's strength
Treating mental health with the same importance as physical health
The concept of "mental cleansing" as essential as brushing your teeth
Key Takeaways:
"Self-care isn't being selfish" - Shruti's tagline reminds us that taking care of ourselves isn't just okay, it's necessary for our healing and our ability to show up for others.
Hidden stories are everywhere - Even people you've known for 10+ years may be carrying their own pregnancy loss stories in silence.
Validation is powerful - Sometimes the most important thing therapy provides is simply witnessing your experience and confirming: "Yes, this is trauma. Yes, this needs to be addressed. Yes, your feelings are valid."
The importance of seeking professional therapy vs. relying solely on family/friends
Understanding that physical and mental health are interconnected—not separate entities
Finding a therapist: It's okay to try different therapists until you find the right fit

Alright, now let's get into today's episode about...
_______________________
In this heartfelt solo episode, Sharna opens up about a recent application for the Pregnancy Loss & Trauma informed Practitioner Certification that moved her deeply and sparked an important conversation about purpose, calling, and legacy.
While October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, bereaved families need support all year round—in February, in May on Mother's Day, in November, and on those unmarked due dates. This episode explores why one month of awareness isn't enough and how your experience of loss can become medicine for others.
Sharna addresses a powerful truth: when we say no to ourselves out of fear or financial concerns, we're saying no to our baby's legacy and to all the families whose lives could be transformed by our presence.
Key Topics Discussed
Why pregnancy and infant loss support is needed 365 days a year, not just in October
The ripple effect of transforming personal loss into professional healing work
Understanding that your grief journey can become someone else's roadmap
The real cost of saying no to yourself and your calling
How to move past financial fears and explore possibilities
The difference between awareness and specialized trauma-informed support
Your experience as medicine that the world desperately needs
Memorable Quotes
"Your experience of loss has the power to be someone else's lifeline."
"When you say yes to becoming a pregnancy loss practitioner, you're not just saying yes to learning skills. You're saying yes to becoming a conduit for transformation."
"You have empathy that can't be taught in textbooks. You have presence that can't be learned from videos."
"Every day you say no to yourself is another day that families who need you are still waiting."
About Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month
October 15th marks the Wave of Light, a global day of remembrance for babies gone too soon. This episode honours all families navigating the profound grief of pregnancy and infant loss while emphasising the need for year-round specialised support.

Your baby mattered. Your grief is valid. You are not alone.
In this deeply moving episode of What I Wish I Knew After Pregnancy Loss, host Sharna Southan speaks with Bina Jesani, a pregnancy and baby loss grief coach from the UK.
Bina shares her 23-year journey navigating multiple losses—an ectopic pregnancy, the neonatal death of her son Krishan, and an early miscarriage—and how these experiences shaped her calling to support other bereaved parents.
In this episode, you'll hear:
Bina's story of her ectopic pregnancy at 5 weeks and the emotional aftermath of minimal support
Her 4-year fertility journey and the eventual birth of her daughter
The heartbreaking loss of her son Krishan, who passed away just two days after birth
The pivotal moment in the hospital when well-meaning advice affected how she honored her grief
Why the ectopic pregnancy recovery was more difficult than her neonatal loss (and what made the difference)
The hierarchy of grief—and why all pregnancy loss deserves validation, regardless of gestation
How Bina supports both individuals and couples through one-on-one and couples coaching
The importance of fathers having their own safe space to process grief
Why saying your baby's name out loud brings healing
Tools and approaches for navigating anniversaries and trigger dates
The healing power of hearing your story through others' eyes
Key Takeaways:
Do what feels right for YOU in your grief—don't let others dictate how you should honor your baby
There is no hierarchy in pregnancy loss; your grief is valid at any stage
Couples grieve differently and need both individual and shared support
Bereavement support shouldn't be limited to October—bereaved parents need support year-round
Speaking your baby's name and sharing their story is a powerful act of healing

Sending you so much love and light on your healing journey. 💛
In this deeply moving episode, we sit down with Todd Whitehurst, author of "Underneath The Weeping Tree," a 40-day devotional born from his family's journey through miscarriage and infertility.
After a life-threatening illness forced him into retirement and stripped away his identity as a contractor, Todd discovered something profound: sometimes our greatest brokenness leads to our most meaningful breakthroughs.
When his daughter experienced three miscarriages, Todd initially tried to do what many fathers do—fix the problem.
But through his own season of forced stillness and spiritual searching, he learned that being present in pain is more powerful than trying to eliminate it.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Jesus weeping with Mary and Martha, Todd shares how he transformed from someone who compartmentalized grief to someone who could sit underneath the weeping tree with those he loves.
Key Topics Discussed
The male perspective on pregnancy loss and infertility
Moving from fixing to presence in grief support
How personal brokenness can lead to deeper healing
The difference between religion and relationship in times of loss
Why grief doesn't follow a timeline
Finding joy and resurrection after seasons of mourning
The danger of busyness and comparison in stealing our capacity for authentic living
Powerful Quotes from the Episode
"Jesus wept. He knew he was going to raise Lazarus from the dead, but instead he stepped into their pain with them and wept with them."
"Sometimes healing is not the yes answer. What happens when the answer is no? But there is always resurrection that follows."
"It's okay to not be okay. Everyone's telling me to be okay, and somehow I'm supposed to act like nothing ever happened."
"Busyness silences the heart. In my busyness and comparison, when the world told me I was doing great, that's actually when I was sick."
"I wouldn't trade the pain I went through for finding out how to love my daughter deeper in a way I never would've learned any other way."

Through his own journey of loss and his daughter's experience with miscarriage and infertility, Todd discovered his calling to offer comfort and hope to others in their darkest seasons.

Are you apologising for your prices? Working for less than you're worth? Giving away your depth for free because you can't figure out how to put a price tag on transformation?
You're not alone - and the statistics are more staggering than you think.
In this eye-opening episode, Sharna breaks down the research showing that women charge 21-26% less than men in freelance markets, and a shocking 28% less as entrepreneurs. But for women in sensitive niches like pregnancy loss, grief work, and trauma support, the gap runs even deeper.
What You'll Learn:
The shocking statistics behind women's undercharging (and why it's worse in healing spaces)
Why the "sensitive niche penalty" compounds traditional gender wage gaps
The nervous system programming that keeps you stuck in undervaluation cycles
How cultural conditioning around "caring work" sabotages your pricing
The Sacred Economics framework that transforms your relationship with value
Why your lived experience IS specialized expertise worth premium investment
Key Takeaways:
Your conscious integration of lived experience creates more sophisticated understanding than traditional training alone
Undercharging isn't generous - it's participating in systems that devalue healing work
Sacred Economics means pricing your medicine to honor both transformation and sustainability
You can't out-price your nervous system - the internal work must happen alongside external changes
Quotes from This Episode:
"Your lived experience isn't just your story - it's specialized expertise that can literally save someone years of suffering."
"You cannot out-price or out-build your nervous system. If your body doesn't feel safe holding the value of your medicine, you'll sabotage your own pricing every time."
"When you undercharge, you're not just hurting yourself financially. You're participating in a system that devalues emotional and healing work."

A Milestone Celebration & Deep Dive into Somatic Healing
We pause to honour a profound milestone—our 100th episode together.
What began as a simple knowing that conversations about pregnancy loss needed to happen has blossomed into a global movement, rippling through practitioners, bereaved parents, and healthcare providers worldwide.
Your downloads, shares, voice messages, and whispered recommendations to friends have transformed how we understand and support reproductive trauma.
Thank you for proving that these conversations matter, that this work matters, and for being the gentle revolutionaries changing everything, one listen at a time.
Now, we dive deep with Nicole Lange, acupuncturist and founder of Life Healing Life, who illuminates the intricate dance between trauma, nervous system regulation, and reproductive health.
Nicole's revolutionary "nursery, house, neighborhood" methodology reveals why treating fertility in isolation—without addressing the whole person—creates unnecessary suffering and compounds trauma.
From her own journey through assault and psychiatric hospitalization to becoming a pioneer in integrated reproductive care, Nicole demonstrates how Western medicine's mind-body split has left us treating symptoms while ignoring the foundation. Her approach bridges ancient wisdom with cutting-edge science, showing how trauma literally lives in our cells and why cognitive therapy alone cannot heal what the body remembers.
This episode explores the profound truth that our bodies scan for safety four times per second, and how chronic stress rewires our entire system away from reproduction and toward survival. Nicole shares practical somatic tools that speak directly to the nervous system—from acupuncture and breathwork to simple practices like humming and feeling your feet in your shoes.
We dive deep into generational trauma, examining how the nervous system patterns of our parents and grandparents live on in our cells, affecting our children before they're even conceived. Yet this isn't a story of doom—it's one of profound possibility and choice. As Nicole beautifully explains, healing trauma isn't about perfection; it's about creating enough moments of safety and regulation to shift the equation.
This conversation will transform how you understand the connection between your inner world and your fertility journey. It's an invitation to see pregnancy loss not as personal failure, but as the body's profound wisdom in action—and to approach healing from a place of deep compassion rather than relentless optimization.
Key Topics Covered:
The "nursery, house, neighborhood" approach to fertility care
How trauma lives in the body and affects reproductive function
The four-times-per-second nervous system scan for safety

"The Missing Piece - What Your Training Didn't Teach About Pregnancy Loss"
There's a gap in how we support pregnancy loss that's leaving both practitioners and bereaved mothers feeling inadequate. Today, Sharna reveals the neuroscience that changes everything about reproductive trauma support.
Whether you're a trained professional who freezes when pregnancy loss enters your practice, or a loss mother who knows you're meant to support others but feels underequipped, this episode exposes what nobody teaches about pregnancy loss - and why the current approach is systemically failing the 1 in 4 pregnancies which end in loss.
What You'll Discover:
🧠 The shocking statistics: Why 39% of bereaved mothers develop PTSD (vs 4-17% general population) and 41% higher depression risk
🤱 The neuroscience revelation: How pregnancy loss affects 4 additional brain systems that traditional grief training completely misses
💔 Why your training failed you: The difference between grief (prefrontal cortex) and reproductive trauma (full nervous system disruption)
🫀 The body language of trauma: What her shoulders, breathing, and protective postures are really telling you
⚡ The 5-pillar framework: A complete system that bridges lived experience with trauma-informed care
Key Takeaways:
For Healthcare Practitioners:
Pregnancy loss isn't complicated grief - it's unrecognised trauma
Traditional grief stages don't apply when the nervous system is in survival mode
You need somatic approaches, not just cognitive tools
That "wall" you hit with pregnancy loss clients isn't about your competence
For Bereaved Mothers:
Your lived experience IS medicine when held within proper framework
Your story alone isn't "enough" - and that's not a limitation, it's an opportunity
The terror in subsequent pregnancies makes neurobiological sense
You don't need psychology degrees - you need trauma-informed understanding
For Everyone:
Current postpartum models assume every mother has a baby to hold
Unresolved reproductive trauma can affect future fertility
The gap between what exists and what's needed? You could be the bridge
Powerful Quotes from This Episode:
"We've been treating trauma as grief. No wonder they're not getting better."
"Her body is speaking what words cannot."
"Talk therapy alone can't reach what lives in the body."
"The revolution in pregnancy loss support comes from the marriage of lived experience and trauma-informed framework."

What if the very thing you've been running from is actually running toward you with gifts?
In this profound exploration of triggers and the nervous system, we dive into the sacred paradox of emotional activation—how the experiences that feel most overwhelming often carry the keys to our deepest healing.
This episode illuminates the hidden mechanics of hypervigilance and reveals why your nervous system becomes a perpetual scanning device when emotions are pushed away rather than welcomed home. We explore the delicate art of creating safety within ourselves, transforming the places where we've learned to dissociate into doorways of integration.
You'll discover why triggers are actually activations of what already lives within you, waiting to be witnessed with the tenderness of a mother recognising her own child.
We'll journey through the landscape of the stressed nervous system and uncover how the very act of avoiding our pain keeps us trapped in the exhausting cycle of looking over our shoulder.
This isn't about forcing yourself to feel everything at once—it's about the gentle rebellion of choosing presence over numbing, integration over dissociation. It's about recognizing that your triggers aren't enemies to be defeated, but messengers carrying the blueprint for your nervous system's return to safety.
A tender invitation to stop outsourcing your emotional truth and start seeing your triggers through the lens of love, compassion, and the profound wisdom of your own becoming.
