We've explored a lot on this planet, but how deeply have we truly gone? The Earth's core is over 6000km deep...and the deepest we've drilled is roughly 12km! Not even 1%, and we haven't talked about the Earth's Oceans. Join Peter and Richard as they welcome long time host of "Angry Planet" George Kourounis, and they take their deepest dive yet with "What If we explored the deepest parts of the Earth?" on What If Discussed.

It's been a long strange journey for Nobel Prize winning astronomer Didier Queloz. In 1995, he and his team discovered the first "Exosolar Planet" i.e. an Earth-like planet orbiting a star. In 2019, they received the Nobel Prize. Now there are over 4,000 similar planets, and estimates put the projected number to be in the trillions! With the help of some incredible creative talent, Professor Queloz is a part of the groundbreaking Netflix documentary series "Alien Worlds" where they get to bring life to their best guesses as to what these planets might look like and who/what might inhabit them. Join Peter, Richard and Nobel Prize winning astronomer Didier Queloz as they discuss "What If we settled on an exoplanet?".

What If you could live forever? Since the days of Ponce De Leon and the search for the Fountain of Youth, human beings have pursued longer lives, doing whatever they could to cheat time and extend their lives. Now, with genetic engineering/CRSPR technology etc. this is no longer a dream, it's a reality. We are on the cusp of literally designing how we'll evolve and how long we might live. The Author of "Hacking Darwin", Jamie Metal joins Peter and Richard to discuss genetic engineering, designer babies, immortality and, no doubt, Gattaca. Google it.

Would this be feasible for larger communities? Join Peter, Richard and author, speaker, aerospace executive and former biospherian Jane Poynter, as they discuss what we learned from that biosphere project and how this could serve our future co-existence here on Earth and beyond.

Do you drink energy drinks? Do you drink them everyday? Do you drink multiple ones everyday? Then you just might be addicted to energy drinks. In a stressed out world suffering from constant fatigue and low energy, so many of us have to find ways to stay energized or just stay awake, but is that necessarily bad? Join Peter and Richard as they welcome caffeine scientist , author and speaker Danielle Robertson Rath, author of "Are You a Monster or A Rockstar?" and "How to Get Sh*t Done When You Feel Like Sh*t" as they discuss how to manage caffeine use in a healthy way.

Everyone once in awhile a game comes along that transcends genre, subjective preferences or styles and just blows us up in a way that takes it from "game" to "cultural phenomenon". "Among Us" is that game. What about this relatively simple, low fi looking game has captured the hearts and minds of so many? And why now? Game Informer Liana Ruppert joins Peter and Richard to discuss and ponder the cultural and sociological reasons why "Among Us" is being played obsessively by millions and watched/streamed by billions and, most importantly, "What If Among Us was real?"

What do we really know about black holes? Are they even black? Are they even holes? And do they suck everything into them that comes close, like a huge cosmic vacuum cleaner? This begs the question, "What If our solar system orbited a black hole?" Peter and Richard welcome USC Physics professor Clifford Johnson to bet the bottom of it...or is there a bottom?

Have you ever experienced seasonal affective disorder or S.A.D.? For those that have and do, the winter months can be a challenging time. Now, add a lockdown with extended periods of isolation for some and there is concern we could be heading into a mental health crisis in the coming months. So, who is better to speak to that than the person who literally coined the term S.A.D. and whose scientific research in this area has helped us better understand it and more importantly, how to best mitigate the detrimental effects of S.A.D.? Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal joins Peter and Richard to help us find ways to deal with some of the challenging times ahead.

Have you ever wondered if there are parallel universes? Earlier this year, a NASA study suggested there might be another universe where time goes backwards. Could that be a universe made of antimatter? Why did matter win over antimatter after the Big Bang? If there is an antimatter universe out there, does that mean we all have evil twins? Join Peter and Richard as they welcome science journalist and NASA Senior Communications Specialist Liz Landau.

What do we really know about octopuses? For starters, they don't have 8 tentacles...they're called arms. Did you know they had 3 hearts? 9 brains? And that some people believe they aren't originally from Earth? If you've been lucky enough to catch the Netflix documentary "My Octopus Teacher”, then you also know they are capable of so much more than spraying ink. Join Peter and Richard as they welcome Pippa Ehrlich, the director of "My Octopus Teacher”. Together they take a deep dive in the kelp forests of Southern Africa and get a lesson or two from one of the most fascinating creatures on Earth.

So what do we really know about Jupiter? Generally speaking, most people know that Jupiter is big...the biggest planet in the solar system. We know it's a "gas giant". NASA decided they wanted to know more about Jupiter, so they initiated the JUNO mission in 2016. Over the last 4 years, we've learned more about Jupiter than we've ever known, including how important our neighbour is to the formation of Earth itself. Join Peter and Richard as they welcome the project scientist for the JUNO Mission, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Steven Levin. He helps us learn everything there is to know about Jupiter including "What If Jupiter never existed?"

Is the truth really "out there"? Long before Fox Mulder uttered that iconic phase on 90's cult classic series "The X-Files", the people from SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) were painstakingly exploring space, listening and looking for any possible sign of alien life. But did they miss something? Could "contact" have already been made? Richard and Peter are on the case, as they welcome SETI chair Andrew Siemion to "What If Discussed" to talk about alien life and not IF but WHEN they expect to discover Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Also joining them is author Sarah Scoles, whose book "They Are Already Here: UFO Culture and Why We See Saucers" will take us on a wild ride through the UFO community.

The world was rocked recently by the announcement that signs of life might have been discovered on Venus? Unbelievable. Is the hottest planet in the Solar System showing signs of microbial life in its atmosphere? Could this be the historic discovery that is the first real domino to fall in the ultimate search for life beyond Earth? So many questions, so few answers. But who better to help us understand the significance of this groundbreaking announcement than the co-author of the seminal paper in Nature astronomy, MIT's Professor Sara Seager. She is not only helping drive this research through her world renowned expertise in studying exoplanet atmospheres, but is also planning to spearhead a mission to Venus in the very near future to answer, once and for all, whether we have indeed discovered life on the planet Venus. Join Peter, Richard and Pr. Sara Seager for this game-changer episode of What If Discussed.

Not like we don't have enough things on our mind...but in case you don't, "What If we blew up an asteroid?". Assuming we'd be considering this, it'd be safe to say there's a pretty good reason, i.e. an asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. If the dinosaurs were around to ask, they'd tell you that doesn't end well. So instead, we asked Bill Nye "The Science Guy" that exact question. So join Peter, Richard and Bill Nye as they discuss blowing up asteroids and a whole host of other things this week on "What If Discussed".

It's easy to forget that long standing scientific theories are in fact, theories and therefore are subject to revision and change as new information comes to light or we develop new ways to understand our Universe. The current accepted theory on the creation of our Universe is, of course, "The Big Bang Theory". But cutting edge new work is threatening to replace it with something else, "The Big Bounce Theory." So did the universe begin with a Big Bang or a Big Bounce? Did the Universe even "begin" at all? Join Richard and Peter and their guest, theoretical physicist Anna Ijjas from the Max Planck Institute of Gravitational Physics. They talk about her groundbreaking work that suggests our seemingly finite Universe is actually infinite, no beginning and no end. Prepare to have your mind blown as we tackle "What If the Universe is bouncing?" on "What If Discussed."

How cool would it be if we could one day regulate our atmosphere, control the climate and maybe even blast threatening asteroids into stardust? Well, to do those things would require A LOT of energy. Essentially, we'd have to be able to harness all the power from the Sun. According to the Kardashev scale that ranks planets according to their ability to harness the energy from their star and even their galaxy, that would make Earth a Type II civilization. What does that mean and how far away are we from achieving that level of uber energy capacity? You'll have to tune in to find out as Peter and Richard welcome back Michio Kaku, physicist and science communicator extraordinaire to help us better understand "What If we became a type II civilization?"
