She attributes her success to this: “I'm not afraid to fight for what I believe in. I am and have always been unapologetically authentic. I have a very strong sense of right and wrong, a strong sense of justice and since I always know I'm doing the right thing I can always hold my head high no matter what, and no matter who I'm facing.” AND, from her ability to also be soft, compassionate and honest. I first became aware of Mark Metz when I was interviewed by Katie Hendricks as part of the first Body Intelligence summit in 2014. Mark was one of the hosts, along with Katie and her husband, Gay Hendricks and Tamara Heartwell. I got to know him a little bit during the second annual Body Intelligence Summit in 2015, and this time, Mark interviewed me, and I got curious to know more about him and his background. Mark coined the term "conscious dance" to describe the no-booze-no-shoes freestyle dance gatherings that he was DJing at hot springs and yoga studios around California, and in 2007 launched Conscious Dancer magazine. He established the Dance First Association, a professional organization for facilitators advocating “movement before medication,” and he interviews innovators and leaders in the field on his podcast, Conscious Dancer Podcast. He has a passion for vinyl, analog sound – you know, albums, LPs! He also has a passion for the entrepreneurial side of our practice (for those of us who teach or lead workshops)—the branding, the marketing, and audience building essentials (this is relevant to those of us in and out of the dance field). He coaches people with their long-term vision and on best practices for getting booked at top retreat centers, filling your classes with loyal fans, increasing the value of your workshops, and developing your own personal brand or modality.
