It's time for another episode of Uphill Both Ways and Mike and Joseph talk Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and the nature of spoilers. They say goodbye to one feature, hello to another and then it's time for the main event as the guys reveal the format of, and the 128 participants in, the UBW Retro Pop-Culture Battle Royale! Things are going to be interesting this Summer and it all starts here!
WhenItWasCool.com presents this week's When It Was Cool Podcast with Karl as he discusses a recent trip to Nashville where we encountered some strange folks in the big city, TARNATIONS! We also visited the Country Music Hall of Fame and discuss Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Don Williams, Buck Owens, the Smoky and the Bandit Trans-Am, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, I don't know what a Little Big Town is, and much more! Then the second half of the show is our look back at the iconic game show Family Feud that was previously available to our Patreons are premium content. It's retro pop culture fun!
In Episode 52, Mike and Joseph talk about Mike's recent day trip to New York City, Joseph explains why it might take him nearly three weeks to see Avengers: Endgame and that leads to a discussion about favorite Avengers lineups and storylines from the comics. And of course there are the regular sidebars, ramblings and musings, and Retro Pop Culture Homework Assignments. All this in an episode we could only call "Comic Talk Part 2: Electric Boogaloo"! (Note: It is NOT called that. It's called "Heroes".)
This is the first When It Was Cool Newsletter Podcast covering the topics in the first issue of the When It Was Cool Newsletter. We talk in detail about some of the new research Karl has been doing on the pioneer era of wrestling and the year 1983 in pro wrestling. Jack Carkeek, Edras Gus Lambert, and new information on Viro Small. Plus tons of interesting notes on one of the wildest years in pro wrestling - 1983. That and much more! This episode is free but future episodes, as well as the newsletter, are set at the $1 level for Patreons.
The flagship of the When It Was Cool network is back and Karl is flying solo with his review of the stealth trilogy Unbreakable - Split - Glass starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, and James McAvoy. The story is a low key super hero suspense thriller spread out over three films by M. Night Shyamalan that you originally didn't realize were connected until the final moments of the second movie.  Glass is now out on DVD and we get the conclusion to the saga plus we talk the theory behind comic book storytelling and how it relates to these movies. Patreons get an ad free version of the show.
Mike and Joseph celebrate the second anniversary of "Uphill Both Ways" on the show's latest episode, "We've Only Just Begun"! The guys discuss two topics submitted by listeners: DC superhero TV series from the seventies and eighties, and favorite songs that fall outside of their main listening genres. They also give their thoughts on the new "Shazam!" movie, and the "Black Summer" and "Killing Eve" TV series, and more. It's a jam-packed, fun-filled anniversary show!
It's the flagship podcast of WhenItWasCool.com and on this week's show hosts Karl and Tonya discuss their marathon Saturday at the movies watching the new Pet Semetary and Shazam! In lead up to this, Karl & Tonya also watched the original Pet Semetary and Pet Semetary II and boy was one of those a doozy. Pet Semetary is a bizarre film that left us bewildered and unsatisfied while Shazam was a fun home run of a film. Let's talk two current movies about two retro topics on the new When It Was Cool Podcast!
Mike and Joseph discuss some of the best-loved television theme songs from the seventies and eighties (and a few earlier ones) on "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," the latest episode of the "Uphill Both Ways" podcast. Join them for this and other pop culture nostalgia fun on the show's fiftieth episode!
