Today on WhereTraveler Podcast, we're featuring Jim Elkin a National Park Ranger working the Statue of Liberty national park. Teresa Rodriguez hosts this fascinating conversation about a "bucket list" level destination.  The statue a gift from France was built by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with its interior structure designed by Gustave Eiffel. The early history of the statue is a who's who from the later part of the 19th century. Names like Morton, Pulitzer even President Garfield were instrumental in the early statue history.  However, it's the words of Emma Lazarus' sonnet that have escaped history and now belong to humanity, "...Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
