The Paralympic Winter Games are upon us and it's time to learn more about adaptive skiing and riding. Whistler Blackcomb’s Adaptive Ski and Snowboard program caters to people with disabilities. Meet Canadian Para-Alpine ski racer Matt Hallat, an alumni of the program, and the coaches who help make this program possible.

In this episode, Toaster meets up with Canadian ski legend Steve Podborski for a tour of the Dave Murray Downhill on Whistler Mountain. Podborski is the Chef de Mission for Canadian athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He is also a former Crazy Canuck ski racer. The course, named after fellow Crazy Canuck, Dave Murray, is one of the most challenging race courses on the ski racing circuit. Athletes will fly down the Dave Murray at speeds of more than 140km per hour!
From snow-cross to halfpipe, meet three Sea to Sky athletes who are competing in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Julia Murray, daughter of famous Crazy Canuck downhill skier Dave Murray, is set to hit the slopes in ski cross. Local Maëlle Ricker is competing in snowboard cross. Halfpipe athlete Justin Lamoureux reflects on his experiences at the last Winter Olympic Games in Torino and what it means for him to compete on home soil.
Back in the day, when snowboarding was considered more of a crime than a sport, Whistler was THE place to shred the gnar on one plank. With the help of local snowboarding historians, Toaster takes us back to the old school, when people would drive across the continent for one hit on the famous Blackcomb “wind lip.” Whistler Blackcomb helped pave the way for snowboarding on the West Coast and continues to be one of the ultimate snowboarding destinations.

Now, we’re less than two months away from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and excitement is mounting. Inspired by the awesome storms that often rage through the Coast Mountains each January, dumping feet upon feet of perfect powder onto Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, the GORE-TEX Deep Winter Experience has stormed into town, January 9-18. The event features ski clinics, avalanche awareness tours and GORE-TEX discounts. The Deep Winter Photo Challenge, presented by Arc’Teryx is the signature event. This year, Jordan Manley, last season's King of Storms come back to defend his crown. Also on the roster are Dan Carr, Andrew Bradley, Crispin Cannon and Brian Hockenstein who are all some of the top ski and snowboard photographer's in North America. After three days of shooting in the elements, they will present their slideshows capturing epic powder days, dramatic skies, inspiring scenery, stormy conditions, deep tree skiing, and the lifestyles characterized at Whistler Blackcomb.
