Nic from the True Crime Garage podcast joins me to discuss the case of Judy Martins. On the night of May 23, 1978, Judy went out with friends for some fun. With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, she had plans to travel with her friends. According to police, Judy left her friends' dormitory at Kent State University to walk a short distance back to her own dorm. That would be the last time she was seen. Since she lived alone, she wasn't reported missing for more than a day. The investigation into her disappearance never gained traction and eventually went cold. Sadly, Judy's parents have since passed away, and the case remains unsolved to this day. However, her brother and sister are determined to see the case resolved and believe it is still possible. COLD CASE: Investigators have announced that they have solved the 1976 murder of a 15-year-old girl and her unborn baby in western Pennsylvania, thanks to a DNA match found in an ancestry database. On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania State Police, along with Carbon County District Attorney Michael Greek, revealed the arrest of 63-year-old Luis Sierra, who has been charged with the homicide of Evelyn Colon that occurred 45 years ago." Who Killed Sarah Pryor? I want to thank a listener for suggesting this story. I have done episodes on the case of Molly Bish and Holly Pirrainen, and the listener suggested I look into the case of Sarah Pryor. Another case connected loosely to the Pryor case is that of 16-year-old Cathy Malcolmson. Cathy was working at the IGA supermarket when she was abducted on her way home from work. The listener, who is from the Massachusetts area where these abductions took place, said there had been some talk that Sarah’s case may also be connected to Molly and Holly’s cases. I decided to look into the Pryor mystery and was surprised by what I found. One of the similarities I began to see was the area's geography and how close these incidents took place to one another. Sarah was taken an hour from where Holly went missing, but all three of these cases occurred just off the Massachusetts Turnpike. It may be a stretch to think these cases could be connected, but it doesn’t mean the idea should be discounted. Some books and documentaries talk about how the construction of the interstate enabled a new type of killer. On today’s episode, we will dive into the Kirtland Cult Killings that took place in Kirtland, Ohio. This small town, situated in Lake County and only a 25-minute drive east of Cleveland, became a national headline in January 1990. After moving to Kirtland, Lundgren established himself as a lay minister for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dale Luffman, the president of the northeast Ohio chapter of the Reorganized Church, confirmed that Lundgren served at the church temple in Kirtland from 1985 to 1987. During this period, he took charge of guiding tours of the church's 153-year-old temple for the public after relocating from Kansas City, Missouri. The victims were the Dennis Avery family: Dennis, Cheryl, and their three daughters—Trina (15), Rebecca (13), and Karen (7). They had moved from Missouri to join Lundgren’s group around 1987. On April 17, 1989, Lundgren invited the Averys to his farm in Kirtland for a “last supper”-type gathering. One by one, they were taken to a barn behind the house, where they were bound, gagged with duct tape, and shot to death. Reports indicate that a chainsaw was used to muffle the sound of the gunshots. Welcome back. Summer hiatus is officially over. As I retrurned to the mic this week I wanted to get a breakdown of the plea in the Idaho 4 case. Legal expert Matt Mangino joined us and highlighted that Koberger's decision not to elaborate on his motives was not unusual in plea agreements, especially when the defendant is not compelled to provide such information. Authorities on Long Island have identified a woman long associated with the Gilgo Beach murders investigation as Tanya Denise Jackson, a U.S. Army veteran who was living in Brooklyn at the time of her death in 1997. Jackson, also known as "Peaches," due to her tattoo, was born in Alabama. Her remains were discovered in June 1997, concealed in a container in a wooded area of Hempstead Lake State Park. DNA analysis conducted during the Gilgo investigation linked her to the remains of a female child found along Ocean Parkway near Cedar Beach in 2011. That child, identified as Tatiana Marie Dykes, has now been confirmed as Jackson's daughter. News 12 Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Author Jesse Pollack joins me to discuss his new book Room 100: Sid, Nancy, and the Night Punk Rock Died and the latest documentary about the Gilgo Four, Gone Girls. One of the primary criticisms is that while "Lost Girls" and "Gone Girls" aim to highlight the stories of the victims, they do not delve deeply enough into their lives. For instance, Shannan Gilbert, who is presented as a central figure, is not explored in a way that reveals her complexities as a person. The documentaries gloss over significant aspects of her life, such as her aspirations to be an actress and singer, her financial struggles, and her experiences with domestic abuse. This lack of detail diminishes the audience's ability to empathize with her and understand the circumstances that led her to sex work. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

wth. this is literally the only podcast I could find that covered this horrific case. other podcasters should step up. and more wth. these two hosts talk about pretty much everything under the sun for fifty minutes except say very little about the murdered child that the podcast is supposed to be about. they sound like they are both baked. quite a departure from their usual quality of work, and unfortunate- because no one else seems to have covered this case.
