Welcome back for another Season! If you've ever struggled to figure out your next steps, or felt conflicted with pursuing passion vs career, you might relate to this episode.
When I set out to create 'The Art of Identity Podcast' I was setting out to create a platform that would be representative of so many different identities. From different genders, sexualities, cultures, ideologies; I really wanted this to be a platform that to me represented what 'Identity' can be. Identity is part your past but it's always what you decide to make it. I wanted it to inspire, I wanted it to console, I wanted it to be so many things and I feel like I've failed. I do not like being the only voice on this platform and believe I've failed in creating the content that I set out to create and share and I feel as though I keep failing at my own game. Living a life that feels right for you is the most important thing to me. I can not continue sharing my own stories under the platform 'The Art of Identity' without feeling as though I am diluting the conversations around Identity and how powerful that word can be. I hope to return under a new name but for now I cannot faithfully use this platform to tell my own stories. All the best, Alyssa Arlene Johansen

So this morning I was on good old TikTok and felt inspired after watching a video from The Bunny Barbie tiktok.com/@thebunnybarbie . Why are people mean? I realized how our Identity is invisible to almost everyone but ourselves. No one knows our history, our experiences, our stories, the things that make us who we are, the way that we do. So while I do not know The Bunny Barbie personally, she inspired tonight's episode. As a sibling we often have conversations with siblings about our similar experiences growing up. But have you ever tested those shared memories and experiences against one another's perception? "Who am I?" "Maybe life is just easier if I go with the flow?" This episode tackles the struggles we often face when work and identity are co-conspirators. Later in the episode I revisit my conversation with Khrischen from last week and we get to the knitty gritty part of starting your own creative venture, business or like Khrischen; his own wine label. On this week's episode, I talk about how this podcast came to be. My own struggles with identity and being a child of two countries that left a feeling of emptiness in the pit of my stomach. These feelings eventually led to raw connections with those who also faced struggles that were different in the details but similar in that void of a feeling. I even share the story of the time I tried to highjack Maxim's Next Cover Girl Competition in an effort to redefine sex appeal, from an industry that's historically exploited vulnerability. We often hide behind our labels as if that is what determines character. But it is our action, inaction, our words, it is our actual character that determines who we are and not just who we think or for many, who we say that we are.On today's episode, the very first episode of The Art of Critical Thinking, Creativity and Identity, I your host, Alyssa Arlene Johansen, will introduce what I believe to be the foundation of awareness, and that is Critical Thinking.Thank you for listening to today's episode. There are no sponsors to thank or social media to shout out because this is it - this is enough.
