In this season-ending episode, Audra hosts Jeff, Chris, and Chace for a roundtable discussion about why and how churches all around the world gather each Sunday to corporately worship God. For many people, the idea of going to church on Sunday is just something they've grown up with, but with so many other ways to spend time on a Sunday morning, why gather for worship? This episode will pull back the curtain on some of the whys and hows of corporate worship in general and, specifically, at Re...
As a church we had lunch together following our worship gathering on April 16th to celebrate God's faithfulness to our church thus far and to look forward to a new chapter in the life of our church that will begin later this year as we open our new building. This episode is a conversation about what it looks like to do church in the 21st century that embodies the positive sides to the church we see in the book of Acts, and will encourage you press into the church wherever you're at.
This episode is a special Good Friday reflection with Scripture readings, songs, and a prayer. Set aside some time this Good Friday to listen to this episode and reflect on Jesus' sacrificial death for your sins and for the sins of the world.
Encouragement is in short supply in our world. Whether it's on social media where everything seems to be about tearing one another down, or in our interpersonal relationships where platitudes often come easier than real, deep encouragement. This episode unpacks what biblical encouragement looks like and gives practical steps for being an encourager to others in your life.
Followers of Jesus believe that he is "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), which means that good, meaningful, flourishing, real life is found in Jesus. But as human beings we constantly look elsewhere to build a good life for ourselves. This episode explores the claims the Bible makes about the good life available in Jesus and points listeners toward the joy that is only available in him.
Although the truth of the good news about Jesus never changes, different aspects of the richness of the good news speaks to some people more than others. This means that in order to communicate the hope of Christ most effectively, it's helpful to understand the cultural and personal context someone comes from. This episode explores the importance of knowing those backgrounds and then communicating the unchanging truth of gospel in a way that meets people where they are.
One thing all human beings have in common is sin; we're all broken and imperfect creatures. But for followers of Jesus, we have a desire to trust God with our lives and turn from our sin. This makes it hard when friends and family continue to live in sin with little or no desire to change. This episode aims to start a conversation about how Christians can love well without affirming sin.
At Redemption Church, our vision is to see everyday people wake up to deep, meaningful life in Christ. We don't want anyone to settle for a "just okay" spirituality; we want people to experience the full life that God has for them in Christ to be hungry for that life. This episode explores some barriers that keep us from going deeper spiritually and will help you cultivate a hunger for God.
Our world is filled with so many rituals, awards, and ceremonies that try so hard to celebrate everyone and everything that it becomes exhausting. If everything is meaningful, nothing is meaningful. Yet at the same, human beings need meaning in order to live flourishing lives. In this episode, Chris, Jeff, and Chace talk about two church rituals - baptism and communion - and how those practices can help lead to a meaningful life.
In the first episode of season 3 of Wide Awake, Jeff Lawrence, Lead Pastor of Redemption Church, Chris Clark, Worship Pastor, and Chace Ifland, Minister of Community and Connection talk about how the church today can embody the same mission as the church in the book of Acts. This conversation will help encourage all Christians to be a witness for Jesus in the world in both word and deed.
