What do you do when someone you care about has a major blind spot that's self-destructive or hurtful to you and others? In the second half of this series, the team makes it practical as John asks Stasi, Allen, and Stacey how they'd react to several "what if" scenarios. Their responses may surprise you. Hard conversations aren't easy, but they also aren't to be feared—once you ask God if and when to engage, what to say, and how to say it.Show Notes: You can sign up for Wild at Heart's Friday video emails at https://wildatheart.org/media/johns-weekly-video-update/. The verse John references is John 12:49 (NLT): "I don’t speak on my own authority. What does mature love look like when it comes to having hard conversation? We can't just say what we see. Nor can we ignore someone's blind spot (or our own) indefinitely. John, Stasi, Allen, and Stacey share how they tend to handle difficult conversations on a spectrum of avoidance to delay to immediate confrontation. Loving well in these situations isn't simple or easy...but it is possible.Show Note: Sign up for Wild at Heart's Friday video emails at https://wildatheart.org/media/johns-weekly-video-update/_______________________________________________There is more.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? How did the very Holy Spirit Jesus was so eager to give us become feared, divisive, and, for most Christians, simply a forgotten stranger? Pastor and author Tyler Staton joins John to explore the need for every believer to regularly experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. The world and the enemy constantly try to name us through accusations and lies based on our past choices, wounds, and failures. But these labels never reflect what's most true about us. In this week's podcast, John and Allen take you into "The New Name" session (led by Pablo Ceron) from our most recent Wild at Heart men's retreat. Discover how to break free from past agreements and scripts you've adapted in your life, see yourself as God sees you, and experience a new identity bestowed upon you by your Father.Show Note: "The New Name" is one session of our Wild at Heart Retreat. E835 | The End of Things

2025-08-0448:401

The "spirit of death" is sneaky, pervasive, and toxic. It tries to get us to make agreements that the things we most value in life are over—resulting in the death of our dreams, faith, marriage, friendships, calling, and creativity. John and Stasi illuminate what's really going on, how to renounce these lies of the enemy, and ways to live with renewed hope. If you've been struggling with discouragement, resignation, and a vague feeling that it's the end of everything you care deeply about, this message is for you!_______________________________________________There is more.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? Colorado Springs pastor and author Greg Lindsey joins John and Allen to talk about how to leave shame and regret behind in order to pursue the rest of our "story" in more freedom. Greg shares his own vulnerable story of redemption as well as concepts from his new book, The Rest of Your Story, including ways the enemy uses our past to keep us from realizing our purpose, the difference between living forgiven and living free, and why control is never the path to the story God created us for.Show NotesThe Rest of Your Story, by Greg Lindsey, is available wherever you buy books. In the second half of this "deeper life" series, John explores another skill needed to thrive in this moment—more sophisticated warfare fighting tools. This teaching, originally offered as a staff workshop, focuses on advanced ways to see what's set against you in the spiritual realm as well as how to be more effective in shutting the schemes of the enemy down._______________________________________________There is more.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? This new "deeper life" series is drawn from recent staff workshops where John taught on two advanced spiritual skills needed in this particular hour and cultural moment. In the first half of the series, you'll discover how to enter into deeper communion with God through actual, intimate encounters with him—and how to make this a regular part of your sustenance rather than the rare, occasional experience. The session concludes with an extended communion exercise led by John. We are all living in a global moment of massive instability. Culture, technology, and constant chaos actually are conditioning us against God. The result is a growing sense of restlessness, weariness, and disillusionment. John and Allen describe how the only rational response for believers in this world gone mad is to risk looking weird as we pursue God above all else. In other words, you must choose to be a martian!Show NotesThe two Wild at Heart podcast series featuring Mark Sayers released June 16th and June 23rd, 2025. Mark Sayers continues his conversation with John and Blaine Eldredge about significant shifts happening during this time of massive global instability. If you're feeling like this world is an increasingly unstable place, you're not alone...or crazy. During moments of intense global transition and shaking, it's helpful to have an accessible voice explain the historical and cultural forces at work from a Christian worldview. In this two-part series, Mark Sayers joins John and Blaine Eldredge for a fascinating, globe-spanning conversation. In Part 1, he explains how we're actually living between two eras—what he refers to as the 'gray zone'— and the ambiguity, challenges, and opportunities of such times.Show Notes: Mark Sayers' website is marksayers.co. In Part 1, the questions cover a variety of topics including what happens when we hear from God but things still go sideways, how can there be no sadness in heaven if people we love won't be there, why does it seem so hard to pursue union with God, and is it contradictory to engage in apps like the Experience Jesus modules while also trying to spend less time on our phones?Show Notes: The Ladder of Love registration details are at wildatheart.org/events/ladder-of-love-retreat-october-2025. I really appreciate this topic and it is important for all Christians. But I was reading Psalm 44 the night I listened to this podcast, and I wondered "Why didn't these guys have this kind of relationship with God?" You talk about how the culture/internet shapes people, but it sounds like these people were close to God and still struggled and didn't connect with God like you talk about in the book/podcast. Why didn't God meet them in their situation? Will He always connect with us in hard times?

To me, this podcast and ministry has way too much focus on talk and feelings and not enough focus on action. John was a therapist, so he brings that perspective to Wild at Heart. Unfortunately, it's an endless dive into over analyzing everything, "how does that make you feel? What does that stir in you?"

these are true men who live out the life of Christ in an unreligious and freedom giving way. no they aren't perfect, but Paul clearly proclaims that he wasn't either in Galatians! I know I'm not. I've been to the Wild at Heart Boot Camp and I'm begging you to dare and seek/receive freedom in Christ in whatever way you can. This is a good place to start.
