The decision to step away from a project or job is rarely an easy one. There are times it just makes sense to quit. In fact, quitting is not always negative. It can be a positive and strategic choice. There are times when setting something aside will create room for high-value tasks and projects. As much reward are the podcast has brought us, it make sense to push pause and redirect attention to things that align with our current vision and goals. As exciting as the change can be, it is also easy to get swayed by outside opinions. Especially when they miss the value of knowing when it's time to walk away. As an entrepreneur I have learned the importance of maintaining focus on high-priority tasks and projects. It is important to evaluate when it may be time to close something up, even temporarily, in order to dedicate attention to new opportunities and ventures. Focus on making a business more efficient and customer-centric, rather than blindly expanding for the sake of growth. Unfortunately, negative perspectives and judgments may arise when making the decision to pause or quit. Those are the times you should seek guidance from trusted mentors and experts, while being mindful of the opinions and feedback received from others. Don't waste time filtering out distractions that can divert focus from the ultimate business goals and vision. You know why you are making the decision to quit, and that is what matters. Surround yourself with a supportive network that encourages and uplifts you. While this may be the last "new" episode, you can always revisit past episodes. Continue listening and learning from the variety of episode topics. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the listeners, guests, and contributors who have made Will Talks Biz a phenomenal success. If you have a business model like mine that relies on retail and speaker fees, take time to learn about different billing methods. As an experienced contractor, Cassie has spent time learning about methods to bills clients, particularly using platforms like Stripe for invoicing. It's not just about getting paid, but how you approach billing that matters. Asking for upfront payments from clients is not uncommon. However, there are potential challenges associated with it. When contractors asking for significant upfront payments it impacts the trust being built with clients. Business owners should work on striking a balance between addressing financial security concerns and maintaining a client-friendly approach to payments. Once you set up your system, communication is a key aspect of billing and client interactions. Maintain open and transparent communication throughout the billing process, especially when following up on late payments. Over-communicating about payment structures and potential late fees is a way to ensure clarity. When the inevitable late payment happens, try to approach them with grace and understanding. We cannot stress enough the significance of transparency, communication, and understanding in the contractor-client billing relationship. Make sure to listen to the full episode for more on navigating the nuances of billing clients effectively.

How to Appropriately Brag About Your Success

"Learn from your mistakes. If you keep doing the same thing over and over, and expect great results, you're going to keep running into failures." Key Moments 02:43 Crafting messaging using StoryBrand framework's essential. 04:15 Clarity in Marketing Comes Through Trial and Error 09:43 Reframe Success to Focus on Helping Others. 10:38 Oversharing Success can Cause Imposter Syndrome and Consumer Fatigue 13:45 Business Management of Service Pricing and Margins  Connect with Will: http://www.willtalksbiz.com/ Book I Can't Read: A Guide to Success Through Failure Email: Will@willtalksbiz.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/william-manzanares How to Appropriately Brag About Your Success Success is about more than just bragging. Talking about success is important in business, but you should also be aware of its impact on marketing and brand perception. There are a number of unanticipated pitfalls of using braggadocious content for recruiting employees and attracting customers. It's not just ineffective, it can backfire big time.  Success talk can attract the wrong crowd, including the type of people you attract as potential employees. When I was using braggish content to recruit employees it led to some unexpected results. It's not about how long you've been in business, but how you've helped consumers and the value you offer. Focus on tangible impact, not just numbers and years in the game. Shift the focus to storytelling that puts the customer's needs front and center. Highlight how you've added value, solve problems, and foster long-term relationships. That's the real currency. Bragging as a sales tactic can lead to imposter syndrome and consumer distress. Not a good look for entrepreneurs or personal brands. It's time to rethink how we share success and maintain authenticity in our messaging. Stop the cycle of bragging and start emphasizing real impact and solutions. Let the success stories and customer testimonials do the talking. It's all about building trust and genuine connections in the world of business. The personal brand of an entrepreneur is crucial, and it's important not to come across as overly boastful. Consumers are seeking genuine connections and value, not grandstanding. Keeping the focus on serving customers and employees, rather than flaunting financial success, fosters a healthy and authentic business environment. Consider reframing your messaging from bragging about your success to discussing the concrete ways you've helped your customers. Stay humble in the content, shifting the focus from personal success to providing value. Keep your intentions in the right place. Remember, it's all about showcasing how you serve and provide solutions to your customers, not about flaunting your own achievements. Make sure to listen to this full episode for more on how to talk about success without coming off as braggadocious.

Multilevel marketing (MLM) companies are one of the business opportunities that are often questioned. My firsthand experience with MLMs has really opened my eyes to the pitfalls and success that can come when you follow the allure of quick money. There are several things to keep in mind if you are worried about falling into an MLM trap.  Make sure you understand where your income comes from. The openness around those questions will help you get a glimpse into the values and ethics of the brand. Still unsure if something is legit or not? Seek feedback from seasoned business owners. That's not all though. There are several other key takeaways from this conversation: Be cautious of opportunities that promise easy, quick money without tangible value or effort. Success is personal and defined by individual goals, not by others' standards or flashy marketing. When presented with business opportunities, ask critical questions to evaluate the legitimacy and sustainability of the venture. This episode is a must listen if you've ever been approached with a similar business opportunity and are looking for advice or insights from experienced business professionals. Whether you're considering an MLM opportunity or navigating the world of entrepreneurship, it's essential to approach with critical thinking, diligence in research, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.

It is not uncommon to encounter challenges with a contractor during a personal building project. However, a recent situation dealing with a difficult contractor left me facing some unanticipated ethical challenges. After a less than favorable experience I was offered $2,500 to remove negative online reviews of a contracting company. This exchange was not only surprising but also raised ethical and legal questions about handling negative feedback. Transparency in business culture is key. How a company handles challenges reflects its values. An ethical approach to customer feedback can elevate the reputation of any business. The offer of compensation for altering reviews is not just unethical, it's an indication of the company's underlying culture. Consumer trust is built on honest interaction and integrity. Culture and leadership directly impact how a business interacts with customers. By prioritizing ethical conduct, companies can foster trust and loyalty, instead of resorting to short-term "solutions". In the world of business, the way a company responds to criticism speaks volumes. While it's acceptable to have flaws, it's how we address and learn from them that truly defines our character. Make sure to listen to this episode to better understand the complexities of customer-business interactions and the evolving landscape of customer feedback in the digital age. There is a lot ot learn from experiences like this. As business owners, consider the impact of online reviews and how you respond to them. Prioritize engaging in thoughtful and ethical customer-business interactions, and to approach online reviews and feedback with integrity. By doing so, we can contribute to a culture of transparency, trust, and ethical business practices.

Staying committed to your vision will help limit the shiny objects that tend to distract entrepreneurs from their goals. Make sure to value personal growth as a measure of success. In fact, personal growth really has been my ultimate measure of success in entrepreneurship. Over time my perception of success has changed. Success is about personal development and learning from past mistakes. Never forget the importance of learning from mistakes and growing personally. A big pitfall, or shiny object, in entrepreneurship is around the growth of a business. There is a common notion that the number of employees is a significant indicator of business success. This is incredibly shortsighted. Instead of focusing solely on the size of a team focus on customer impact and profitability. The importance of serving customers and being able to solve their needs is a great measure of business success. Comparing yourself to others can lead to distractions and self-doubt. Instead, set clear goals for yourself and your business. Focus on achieving these goals through well-defined systems, ultimately leading to a sense of fulfillment and achievement. I was reminded of this while visiting holiday festivals where the ability to swiftly change booth setups based on customer flow and engagement led to increased sales. When initially building a customer base don't underestimate the value of in-person, tangible experiences. Whether it's allowing people to get their hands on products or meeting the face behind the brand, these interactions create enriched connections that digital marketing may not fully capture. The blend of marketing efforts and tangible experiences lays a strong foundation for long-term customer relationships. Take your product to local markets and test it. This hands-on approach helps in gauging the market's response and guides effective decision-making for future product iterations. By having direct involvement with consumers, it paves the way for adapting to their preferences and needs. Yet, as exciting as it is, there are a lot of mixed emotions that come along it. It's a mix of euphoria and dread that comes with being your own boss. Much of that stemming from the realization that you are the one responsible for solving problems and making decisions. Ultimately, the definition of becoming your own boss varies for everyone, so make sure to acknowledge the milestone moments that mark the start of your entrepreneurial journey. An essential hallmark of establishing a business is the influx of revenue. That is often best seen by having tangible financial transactions. It serves as evidence of a viable business. In order to keep that momentum it is important to keep tabs on customer satisfaction. The presence of paying customers indicates a major shift from ideation to action. But that's just the beginning - it's what you do with that money that determines your success. The steps to getting started may seem daunting. Break the process down into a few practical steps. Get a website & company name secured, form an LLC, and set up a business account. Then comes the best part; start selling your product or service. Make sure you also protect yourself and your business by legally covering your entity. Avoid personal guarantees and separate your personal assets. It's all about treating your venture like a business from the get-go. A common fear among prospective entrepreneurs is the 'What If' mindset. It's important to shift that focus from the negative 'What Ifs' to the positive potential of success. Confront your fears and embrace the potential for success. Often, the fear of failure can be paralyzing, preventing individuals from pursuing their dreams. Embrace the journey, stay positive, and ask yourself, "Why not take the leap?" Make sure to listen to the full episode for more on navigating the world of entrepreneurship and taking the leap to become your own boss. There is a lot of value in the lessons from those who have navigated similar paths. This resilience is important not only in overcoming challenges but also in continuously steering the business toward success. One day to build that resilience is gaining a deep understanding your purpose or 'why' in entrepreneurship. Your "why" can keep you going through the toughest times in entrepreneurship. Over time it is very likely that your 'why' will evolve and that is okay. Just remember to hold on to your compelling reason that fuels the passion for your business. Having a clear purpose will be crucial when you face toxic mindsets and negative influences. It happens to everyone at some point. Lean into supportive networks and mentorship to help you stay focused on your mission. Their positive guidance is invaluable to entrepreneurial growth. Remember though, inspiration can come from various resources. Find books, podcasts, and interviews with successful entrepreneurs, as a means of gaining motivation and guidance. When you do this you surround yourself with positivity and valuable insights that propel your business forward. The freedom, flexibility, and opportunities that entrepreneurship presents is an undeniable reward. It is nice having the autonomy to pursue interests for personal growth, education, and self-improvement. Too many businesses forget the transformative effect of training and development. Taking the time for personal growth is what will shape your entrepreneurial leadership and the overall success of a business. As you navigate your own path in business, remember to embrace your "why", seek guidance from those who understand your journey, and find inspiration in the stories of successful entrepreneurs. Keep pushing through the challenges and celebrate the rewards of being your own boss. Make sure to listen to this episode for an open conversation about overcoming setbacks, staying resilient, and the rewards of charting your own path by being your own boss.

There is a unique balance between embracing the festivities and tying up loose ends for our businesses. Use the time you have to consider these three ways to set yourself up for success going into the new year. Reflect and Plan: As the year comes to a close, entrepreneurs need  reflect on their business' overall performance. Analyzing year-end sales and comparing them to previous years can provide valuable insights. Additionally, setting clear goals and establishing a plan for the upcoming year is crucial for continued success. Strategize Cost Management: During slower times focus on cost-cutting strategies. Analyzing expenses and identifying areas for potential savings can significantly impact profitability. Making informed decisions about necessary investments and operational infrastructure is crucial for sustainable growth. Recognizing the value of investing back into the business, and leveraging expertise where needed, can lead to substantial benefits in the long run. Believe it or not, by leading with authenticity and vulnerability you have the power to change lives. The most captivating speakers tell impactful stories that connect with the audience, build credibility, and make a lasting impression. This was once again evident during a recent opportunity speaking to a group of 4th graders. There is a distinct joy that comes from connecting with young minds and sharing relatable stories with them. Their genuine interest and raw questions leave a lasting impression. By sharing my story with young individuals I was able to give them firsthand experience on the value of embracing their unique learning styles and sharing their challenges openly. The time with them was a great reminder of the importance of relatability and storytelling, which transcends age and audience. My advice to aspiring speakers is simple. Practice, seek feedback, and be humble. The journey of sharing your story begins with a genuine desire to make a difference. Everyone has a story worth sharing. When you focus on giving back, providing value, and reaching out to diverse audiences, people will see and feel your commitment to making a positive impact. By writing my own book, "I Can't Read," others have started to understand and embrace different learning styles. Whether you're an aspiring speaker or someone navigating your own challenges , take a page from my book and embrace the uniqueness of your story. Remember that your journey could inspire others in ways you never imagined. Your voice matters. Share it.
