"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both."We’ve noticed that there's a constant battle between two camps these days. On the one side, you have the “never not working” advocates who believe working 18, 19, 20 hour days is the key to success. On the other side, you have those who push for a reduced emphasis on work and more emphasis on the things they believe are more important like family, friends, and more leisure time to pursue that which feeds the soul. And somewhere in between, there’s a balance. I had an interesting conversation with myself, out loud and in my head, while I was making an omelet. And it had to do with time.I don't know about you, but my mind seems to surf time continually. One moment I'm present, the next moment I'm somewhere in the past or I jump to the future (I'm like a mental Doctor Who).Sometimes I'm in the past, present, and future at the same time (work that one out).Anyway, in this particular instance, I found myself about 28 years in the past. I was remembering a friend I haven't seen since our Infantry Officers Basic Course. And it occurred to me that in the present, I only know this person as they were in the past. Then I suddenly became aware that I know "myself" - the "I" that is "me" as seen through the filter of a past "self." (as I write this, I'm beginning to wonder if there was something in those eggs 😂))OK, I'll stop there, otherwise, this intro is going to end up being longer than the actual audio I'm sharing with you. 😳Have a listen. I'm curious to know, what timeframe your "I" is locked in.
In this episode, the Hatman shares a story about paying it forward.
