Are you struggling to find happiness at work — or in your professional life? Ashley and Sumi are here with a lot of real talk as they unpack an issue that a lot of us women face. It starts with reevaluating where you want to end up on the corporate ladder in terms of what will provide you with the most happiness. That can lead to questioning whether you are even on the right ladder — which may seem like a luxury of privilege you can’t afford when you’re providing for your family. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start enjoying life now, because that is what we are fighting for, now — as our hosts so eloquently put it. It’s about equal equality, and equal opportunity, and as women rewrite the rules, they need to do with some enjoyment in their lives! What this looks like is having a squad in the boardroom who can call out when you aren’t getting validation for your idea. It’s about transition sentences like “Building off of what So and So said” that gets you taken seriously as a woman of color in meetings where a ‘mediocre white male’ is hogging the limelight. Developing an authoritative voice, not second-guessing yourself, and taking yourself seriously are some of the tools that we can use to rewrite the rules of how we conduct ourselves, leading to more personal happiness and a resultant shift in the power dynamics. There’s much more inside this authoritative episode of Women Rewriting the Rules. It’s time to be unapologetically yourself!“It might actually be more enjoyable for me to sort of ‘reset’ how I’m thinking about building my career, that would allow me to feel more happiness in that.” ~ Ashley“Loving what you do takes effort.” ~ SumiIn This Episode:How The Great Resignation is affecting women of colorWhere do you want to end up on the corporate ladder? Is this even the right ladder? Thanksgiving has passed but hold on, don’t stop giving thanks just yet. It’s the holiday season, so you’ve probably seen a thousand cheesy posts on the internet, by now, about choosing gratitude or having a grateful heart and the like. Sometimes that does feel like a lot of woo-woo talk when you’re facing the daily difficulties of life, doesn’t it? But guys, we’re here to tell you, those cheesy posts are actually on to something.Science backs this up so roll with us for a moment. This isn’t about some fake sense of positivity. We don’t want you to go about life NOT feeling what you experience. BUT, here’s why gratitude is so important: It actually HELPS you deal with the negative. Here’s the thing: we go through life picking and choosing what we notice and what we take in. Once you start noticing what you want to be grateful for, you'll start noticing more and more of them. It’s like this upward spiral that you create for your brain. And guess what? When you are living that way, you have more capacity to deal with the negative things that DO hit you in life. When you’re aligned with all the good that's happening in your life, when something bad happens, you're just starting at a point that's so much stronger and so much higher up than if you were constantly focused only on the negative. Listen to this episode for more on the science—and the balance between feeling what you feel but shifting towards gratitude anyway. To celebrate the launch of the Women Rewriting the Rules podcast, we want to pamper you with the BEST holiday giveaway we could think of!
