How to Die Alone is a new show created by Natasha Rothwell that is now streaming on Hulu. It follows Mel on her journey to finding confidence in herself and discovering who she truly wants to be. It's a great binge watch that is full of lessons for anyone trying to become the highest version of themself. It's also the most recent thing I haven't been able to stop yapping about. In this episode I talk about: Understanding and dealing with loneliness Moving through fear and taking action Friendship breakups Why I love this how and lessons learned from watching it Here is a great article from Very Well Mind that talks about the causes and consequences of loneliness by Kendra Cherry, MSEd. This is a very special twin edition of the podcast. Kristen Bush is an Engineer/Scientist II at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). She is passionate about helping disadvantaged communities and improving the energy infrastructure for all. She's also my twin sister and best friend! This episode touches on our relationship as twins and discusses some of the highs and lows we've experienced while trying to develop our own identities. Let's talk about finding ourselves! We all have a desire to belong and to be seen by the right people. Life is about appreciating the journey and not getting caught up on the destination. Recently, I've been reflecting on how I've grown complacent with aspects of my life, my goals, and my professional career. In this episode I get into: Trusting the timing and calling over your life Getting comfortable with disappointing others Lessons from Victoria Monet's Grammy wins Understanding God's best versus what other people want for you We have to have enough belief and faith in ourselves to trust that things are working out in our favor and for our highest good. I wanted to take time to talk about my experience with grief and some of the revelations I've had since then. This was something that wasn't completely unexpected, but it was still sudden. I was able to spend time with loved ones and be reminded of the things that truly matter in my life. In this episode I also talk about what it means to truly surrender, dealing with uncertainty, and getting comfortable with facing some uncomfortable truths. If you haven't seen the interview with Johnathan Owens, you are in luck! I watched it so you don't have to and you already know I have thoughts. Jonathan Owens, who is Simone Biles’ husband, was interviewed on the Pivot Podcast, which focuses mainly on interviewing current and former football players to learn about their life lessons and experiences. He said a few things about his experience of meeting Simone Biles that rubbed people he wrong way. Let's get into it. In this episode I also unpack humility, dive into my experiences in femininity circles and challenge us all to think about what it means to be humble and to admit where we are outmatched. Guess what? This is the very first interview episode for the Words with Me Podcast! I was so excited to have a transparent conversation and learn a bit more about pivoting, dealing with the unexpected, and how to trust your intuition and decision-making. In this episode, we are talking to Kayla Garrett of Planting Assets. Kayla Garrett helps individuals build consistent healthy habits through cleansing, fresh juice, and sea-moss gel. Planting Assets started as a way for her to help her family stay healthy during the Covid-19 pandemic, and turned into something more. I hope you’re as excited for this conversation as I am! If you didn't already know, I do love some good reality T.V. and in this episode we are (mostly) talking about Love is Blind. If you've watched Season 4 I think all I have to say is Zack, Irina, and Bliss and you will know exactly what I'm talking about today... Reality T.V. is entertaining, but it also inadvertently becomes a weird sort of case study. Plenty of shows call authenticity into question whether it's the authenticity of the participants or the authenticity of the show itself. You could give these shows the benefit of the doubt and believe that the people who are casted on these shows are showing you who they are authentically even when the cameras aren't rolling. What happens when it becomes very clear that someone is in fact not being authentic at all?
