Coronavirus Safety

2020-03-1643:36

Tom is a proud member of the National Safety Council (NSC).  The NSC and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have partnered to bring this webinar to its members to freely share to our listening audience concerning the Coronavirus.  For pictures, videos and more go to our website at www.workplaceradio4usall.com  Thank you
Have you ever been told by your supervisor to perform a job but you knew it was not safe to perform it and were threaten to be written up for insubordination would you perform the task anyway?  If your supervisor told you to go into a confined space but you know it must be Air Tested but they want you to go in there anyway would you risk being fired for refusing?  What if your supervisor told you to perform electrical duties but the wooded ladder is submerged in water would you take a chance and perform the task anyway?  Did you know that you can write up incident reports of supervisors requesting you to perform unsafe duties? They document you refusing to perform a task but it would never be in their report that it was an unsafe work condition. (OOPS they left that out)!  When you document you need to have the Date, Time, what the unsafe condition is and if there were any witnesses present on the day in question.   You should CC your supervisors supervisor and follow the chain of command.  You will hear from Gwen and Bill continue to tell their stories in the last of this series I DON'T WANT TO DIE SAFETY IS IMPORTANT! Part 3
Management may have one view of workers and the workers may have another view of Supervisors and Managers.  Whose to blame when someone gets hurt on the job? Bill was a worker in Part 1 of this topic; now he got promoted to Supervisor for part 2 of this topic.  Bill will speak about the importance of safety in the transit system and if you have a concern about your safety then express it in writing and fill out a "Safety Resolution Form." We will put this form up on our website at:  www.workplaceradio4usall.com A great deal of passengers waiting for their trains may see transit workers standing around talking to each other and not working.  What they don't know is that it is not safe to work on the train tracks while a train is about to come into the station.  THEY DON'T WANT TO DIE AND BE KILLED BY AN ONCOMING TRAIN.  When the train leaves the station it is now safe to perform their track duties but you would never know that because you have boarded your train.  Please don't judge them.  Some workers died because they didn't wait to perform their track duties and was killed by an oncoming train.  Who was to blame by taking shortcuts which can cost them their life.
Taking shortcuts to meet quotas or supervisors asking you to do them a favor and take a shortcut to meet deadlines can have deadly consequences.   Remember it was a favor and it was not in writing when you took the shortcut.  Did your supervisor provide you with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform the task?  If not, did you know that if you are injured or die that the company does not have to pay you or your family because you didn't follow protocol and should have worn your PPE?  If it's not in writing it never happened if you are injured or die. You will hear about two situations of Gwen an Electrician and Bill that works for transit as they talk about Workplace Safety and how shortcuts can CAN COST YOU YOUR LIFE.  Gwen is alive today because she didn't follow the unsafe conditions her supervisor told her to perform.  Bill want you to know the importance of obeying the rules and protocol to be safe in the workplace.
Millennials Speak Out

Millennials Speak Out

2020-01-1933:52

We are engaging in conversation with two Millennials today Co-Host Shay and her guest Mymy and their views on various topics.  The Lyrics of the Intro song "Millennials Speak Out" was written by "Lady Tay", the Co-Host.  Millennials are speaking out that they will not allow what happened to many parents to happen to them.  Many parents spent over 20 years on the same job and losing pensions due to Employers filing bankruptcy and job relocations.  This leaves parents with nothing to show for their faithful service.  There are just too many opportunities, the internet, and technology to let that happen to them.  Don't let their age fool you. Don't lie to them like their parents were lied to.  Their parents were promised a promotion but it never happened.  In the meantime the Employer received many years of management work for free because they never received the wages to go along with the position and they were afraid to speak up for fear of losing their position or job.  THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO THEM! Don't lie to them; TELL THEM THE TRUTH! They will not tolerate being disrespected in the workplace and take any workplace abuse.  They will look for another job where they feel respected and receive the higher wages like they want and deserve.  Millennials are the future of the Workforce today and the Entrepreneurs of tomorrow.  Enjoy the Podcast!
War on Homelessness

War on Homelessness

2020-01-1829:18

There is a war going on in Atlanta Georgia and it's being fought by the Frontline Team of Housing Plus Inc.  It's the War on Homelessness in ATL.  We are going to hear from our guest Jetta Prime and Shaff'qur who are part of the Frontline Team of Housing Plus.  They are going to where the homeless live, and that's on the streets!  Many have jobs but sleeping in their cars, under bridges, abandon buildings and more.  There are agencies out there not doing their part in housing families and letting our Homeless down.  Where is the money going?  Anyone can be displaced and homeless due to fire, flood, and more.  Not everyone that is homeless are Drug and Alcohol Dependent as some may think.  Anyone can be a step away from being homeless but Housing Plus is making a difference in the Atlanta Georgia area.
Have you been told that you will be promoted while performing the duties of the vacant position to later find out that they selected someone else for the job? This injustice happens to White and Non-White workers. Is school your workplace and you feel embarrassed for being Brown skin in a school that is mostly Non-Black and made to feel ashamed of the texture of your hair and the brown color of your skin? Are you overlooked for a job by a lighter brown skin person because you are a darker brown skin complexion? This is the 2nd episode of Cultural and Social Injustice of this series.  Tom, Tay, and Shay
Do you stand up for cultural-social injustice at the workplace or do you look the other way? Are you afraid to speak up for fear of losing your job?  Are you the person that speaks up for others at your workplace?  Is there a mis communication problem at your workplace causing workers to feel that their culture is not being respected and the supervisor just does not realize they are contributing to this problem? What about instructions being provided to a coworker in Spanish but you don't speak or understand Spanish? What if you were expected to be in a certain place and time to help the Spanish worker but it was never told to you in English so you can be where your supervisor needs you to be?   What about training being provided in English only but you don't understand the training because Spanish is your language and you are told to sign a paper that you understand what is expected of you.  There are cultural differences and the results can be a toxic, shocking and explosive in your workplace.  This is the first episode of this series. Tom & Tay Part 2 is "Injustice in the Workplace" Have you been told that you will be promoted while performing the duties of the vacant position to later find out that they selected someone else for the job? This injustice happens to White and Non-White workers.
