लाजवंती ईमानदारी और ख़ुलूस के सुंदरलाल से मोहब्बत करती है। सुंदरलाल भी लाजवंती पर जान छिड़कता है। लेकिन बँटवारे के वक़्त कुछ मुस्लिम नौजवान लाजवंती को अपने साथ पाकिस्तान ले जाते हैं और फिर मुहाजिरों की अदला-बदली में लाजवंती वापस सुंदरलाल के पास आ जाती है। इस दौरान लाजवंती के लिए सुंदरलाल का रवैया इस क़दर बदल जाता है कि लाजवंती को अपनी वफ़ादारी और पाकीज़गी पर कुछ ऐसे सवाल खड़े दिखाई देते हैं जिनका उसके पास कोई जवाब नहीं है।

यह ज़िंदगी से संघर्ष करते एक अख़बार के एडिटर की कहानी है। हालाँकि उसे उस अख़बार से दौलत मिल रही थी और न ही शोहरत। फिर भी वह अपने काम से ख़ुश था। उसके विरोधी उसके ख़िलाफ़ क्या कहते हैं? लोग उसके बारे में क्या सोचते हैं? या फिर दुनिया उसकी राह में कितनी मुश्किलें पैदा कर रही है, इससे उसे कोई मतलब नहीं था। उसे तो बस मतलब है अपने रास्ते में आने वाली हर रुकावट को दूर करने से। यही काम वह पिछले चार साल से करता आ रहा था और अब जब नए साल का आग़ाज़ होने वाला है तो वह उससे भी मुक़ाबले के लिए तैयार है। Happy New Year To All.
