Write Your Story with Ally Fallon

We are all creating the stories of our lives each day. Sometimes it’s hard to believe in a happy ending when were in the middle of chaos – or to understand the transformation we are undergoing when we're being tested over and over again – but I believe we are all here to learn, grow, and discover more of who we are in this life and I want to help you do exactly that. Let’s uncover the meaning of our stories together. The stories we tell ourselves about our life matter – and only we have the power to edit, upgrade or re-write them altogether. Only we have the power to become the hero we want to be. Only we can change the narrative of the story we’re telling ourselves. If we’re sick of being the “girl who got dumped” or the “guy who lost his job” or the “villlan,” the “helper”, etc — what choice do we have? We get creative and we write a new story. As a bestselling author, I’ve learned the principals that make stories tick and I've taken many of my life stories and put them to paper. What I have learned is that stories have a lot to teach us about what matters in life; and that one of the most powerful things you can do to heal is to face your story head-on. To co-create the ending. To uncover the thread that holds the whole thing together. To become the hero you would want to see on the screen. I’ve taught many others how to do this and I want to share these insights with you, too. Everyone wants to make meaning of their story (me included) and it’s never too late. You can become a completely new person with a whole new story in just a few short years. So let’s go on this journey together. Come with me as we explore how to become our authentic selves and live our true stories. We’ll explore personal growth, self-help, psychology, spirituality, and so much more. It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

TO GET UNSTUCK, LET GO

We think we know what it means to “be creative” but do we really? Or have we been subtly indoctrinated by a culture that so worships productivity and achievement that we have missed what creativity actually is, what it means, and why it matters? In this season of the podcast, I’ll ask those questions and more. I’ll find some answers, I’m sure, and leave others to a mystery I may never fully understand. I hope you’ll come along with me for the ride. In this week’s episode, I share two different approaches for getting unstuck and the second one might surprise you. If you’re feeling in the “muck” or like you could use a breakthrough, don’t miss this episode. Also, here’s a link to the whole poem I share in this episode: Aristotle by Billy Collins Host: Ally Fallon // @allyfallon // allisonfallon.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

DISSOLUTION OF EVERYTHING

We think we know what it means to “be creative” but do we really? Or have we been subtly indoctrinated by a culture that so worships productivity and achievement that we have missed what creativity actually is, what it means, and why it matters? In this season of the podcast, I’ll ask those questions and more. I’ll find some answers, I’m sure, and leave others to a mystery I may never fully understand. I hope you’ll come along with me for the ride. In this week’s episode, I talk about what happens in the middle of the creative process when it looks like what you hoped to create, you may never create. Hopelessness. Despair. Existential dread. It’s quite the uplifting episode. But seriously. I hope you enjoy it and I hope it makes you feel just a little less crazy if you’ve found yourself losing hope. DON’T MISS THE MIRACLE

In today’s episode, I am talking about what role “miracles” plays in our creative work (creative work meaning: building a family, starting a business, creating community, solving problems) and reframe the idea of what a miracle is and what role we play in welcoming the miracle. If you’ve ever found yourself waiting for something spectacular to happen and feeling like it’s out of your hands, you don’t want to miss this episode. KNOWING THE WHY > KNOWING THE HOW

In today’s episode, I talk to my husband Matt about a creative project he’s been working on for four years that didn’t hasn’t gone the way he wanted. We talk about the bizarre mix of money and creativity, what failure has to teach us about success and how knowing your “why” trumps figuring out “how” to bring your vision to life. If you’ve ever failed at something that mattered to you — or if you haven’t even tried because you worried about failing — you don’t want to miss this episode. FOLLOWING YOUR IMPULSES

In today’s episode, I explore what it looks like to follow your impulses and share why I’m learning this is an essential element of creativity. “But what if my impulses are selfish? What if they are born from ego? What if they lead you down a dark path?” I’ll explore these questions and more. Whatever you call them — impulses, intuition, or that still, small voice — hearing and responding to that subtle knowing is one important key to creativity. Join me as I share my own experience of hearing and following my impulses. Host: Ally Fallon // @allyfallon // allisonfallon.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

THE BLANK PAGE

We think we know what it means to “be creative” but do we really? Or have we been subtly indoctrinated by a culture that so worships productivity and achievement that we have missed what creativity actually is, what it means, and why it matters? In this season of the podcast, I’ll ask those questions and more. I’ll find some answers, I’m sure, and leave others to a mystery I may never fully understand. I hope you’ll come along with me for the ride.  In today’s episode, I unpack the symbolism of the “blank page” and how when we set out to make something, we start with nothing. If creativity is about making something from nothing, then how we view emptiness, silence, boredom and the heavy feeling of “nothing to say” matters. If you’ve ever wanted to create something — a business, a family, a community, a way of life — but had no idea where to start, this episode is for you. When the story you’re living in takes a turn you weren’t expecting, you have two options: accept the change and ride the wave, or fight the unfolding narrative at every turn. In this episode, I’ll share some ways I’m being asked to let go of the narrative I was trying to write and to step into a newer, more courageous version of myself. “Instagram vs Reality” In the Life of an Author

Before I became an author, I used to fantasize about sitting in a coffee shop, light streaming in through the window, fingers posed effortlessly at the keys, struck with inspiration, writing chapter after chapter. I thought endless about how it would feel to hit the NYT Bestsellers list and be respected by my peers. Now that I’m an author, I’ve discovered a whole different (and better and more miraculous and at times vaguely horrifying) reality. In today’s episode, I share more. Asking Better Questions

Stories follow questions. A popular question that drives many stories goes, “what happens next?” But no matter what question you ask at the beginning of your story, the reader (and you) will follow that question all the way until it gets an answer (questions are powerful motivators—your brain literally won’t give up until it gets to the conclusion!) In this week’s episode I share a simple way to upgrade your story’s questions so that you can tell even more nourishing stories. I hope you enjoy!
