First published in my short story collection, Rented Rooms, Luck is a bit of mystery, horror and just desserts.  To read recent work, check out my serialized fiction on Vella
Surprisingly contemporary and readable. Mr. Bacheller wrote many books but didn't seem to gain longevity. Fame is fickle.
A man and woman meet again after many years. Remarkably, they soon find themselves in his apartment. Hmmm...the plot thickens. Nice NYC vibe from 1900s. Readable and not as dry as I thought Wharton was. Me likee.
First novel of FS Fitzgerald. I wonder if it is autobiographical. Interesting opening about a mother and son, both pampered, rich, self-absorbed. What's not to love?

Wow. Not a favorite. Am surprised. IMHO Beginning is confusing and overly written. Maybe I'm missing something.
Dame Christie's first published mystery. Charming. Me likee.

His first book. Started out as a short story, then became a novel he never finished. Published posthumously. Interesting and accessible. Two Thumbs.
Joseph Conrad tossed over a net and got me good. Two thumbs!
A serial that was made into a short novel. After several pages, I couldn't say what the story was about. I'm old.

Emile Zola, strikes a distant chord. I dove in and discovered a literary style and a couple lessons I may use in my own writing.
Got my interest right away. Contemporary style. Some words, phrasing were odd. Could be the age of the piece or that it had British-isms.
Elmer likes to drink...a lot. May pass on this one. Perhaps I should have read a later chapter.
A literary style that we can enjoy and savor.
So what was the book like? Awesome. Enjoy!
