We can think of no better way to launch a podcast than with our first two guests: Mae Martin and Bob the Drag Queen. Mae (Handsome podcast, debut album “I’m a TV,” and upcoming Netflix series “Wayward”) shares their secret crush gone horribly wrong, and perhaps the most incorrect way to use a spatula. Bob (RuPaul’s Drag Race winner, The Traitors, NYT best seller “Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert: A Novel”) reveals their ultimate kindergarten nightmare and the least comfortable way to extinguish a roast. If you have a Wrong Turn of your own to share with Jameela, email a voice memo to PersonalDisasterStories@gmail.com, and we may include it in a future episode!Jameela is on Instagram @jameelajamil and TikTok @jameelajamil. Jameela welcomes the world-leading educator on gender violence, Dr Jackson Katz (Every Man, Tough Guise) back to her I Weigh podcast for a fresh discussion on why violence against women is a men’s issue, and what we all can do to make a difference. Dr Katz talks through the current state of the manosphere, what message the recent US election results highlights to young men, and where the responsibility lies to address the outdated belief system about women. This is an important and timely discussion that offers concrete actions & helpful talking points. To find more from Dr Jackson Katz he's on IG @jacksontkatz and his new book out in early 2025 is Every Man: Why Violence Against Women is a Men's Issue and How You Can Make a Difference  Find the information about Every Man here: https://www.penguin.co.uk/authors/301398/dr-jackson-katzIf you have a Wrong Turn of your own to share with Jameela, email a voice memo to PersonalDisasterStories@gmail.com, and we may include it in a future episode!Jameela is on Instagram @jameelajamil and TikTok @jameelajamil. This week, Jameela is joined by author & illustrator Florence Given (Women Living Deliciously) to talk finding joy in your life, being a playful activist, and opening your own doors of self-expression. Florence shares ways to let go of other people’s perceptions of you, and how to intentionally take up (too much) space by showing up courageously and being unapologetically yourself. This is a joyful conversation on the art of being childlike, not childish, and focuses on romancing yourself while finding awe in the everyday. You can find Florence on IG @florencegiven and TT @florencegiven and her new book 'Women Living Deliciously' is out now.If you have a Wrong Turn of your own to share with Jameela, email a voice memo to PersonalDisasterStories@gmail.com, and we may include it in a future episode!Jameela is on Instagram @jameelajamil and TikTok @jameelajamil. Jameela welcomes comedian and author Danny Wallace (Yes Man) for a look down the rabbit hole of disinformation and its slippery slope into conspiracy theories. Danny talks through his personal experience researching his latest book (Somebody Told Me), highlighting what stages of life we are most open to conspiracies and the tribalist online communities that perpetuate them. You’ll hear Danny recount his (often hilarious) investigation into the barrage of digital AI, ChatGPT, and online manipulation while he identified bots & fake accounts, but you’ll also learn some useful ways to talk with loved ones to overcome the disinformation obsession. You'll find more about Danny's book 'Somebody Told Me: One Man’s Unexpected Journey Down the Rabbit Hole of Lies, Trolls and Conspiracies' here: https://lnk.to/SomebodyToldMeBook Or find him on IG @verydannywallaceIf you have a Wrong Turn of your own to share with Jameela, email a voice memo to PersonalDisasterStories@gmail.com, and we may include it in a future episode!Jameela is on Instagram @jameelajamil and TikTok @jameelajamil. Jameela is joined for some hard truths about menopause by author & journalist Tamsen Fadal (How to Menopause) this week. They talk about the hidden impact menopause has had on women’s lives, including lost wages, disrupted careers, relationship breaks ups, and emotional strain. Tamsen talks through raising awareness about perimenopause (the years before menopause) and the lack of support & knowledge about symptoms from healthcare providers today. This is an eye opening conversation about a chapter of life that will affect half of the world’s population (and everyone born with a uterus!) You can follow Tamsen on IG @tamsenfadal and follow themfactorfilm on IG to find more about the documentary screenings. If you have a Wrong Turn of your own to share with Jameela, email a voice memo to PersonalDisasterStories@gmail.com, and we may include it in a future episode!Jameela is on Instagram @jameelajamil and TikTok @jameelajamil. Please let your guests talk a bit too. And also please stop interrupting them. Sometimes it gets really painful to listen. You just get into this spiral and can’t stop talking.

I first heard of Amanda Montell in her previous episode with Jameela and have become her fan ever since... or maybe is just Halo Effect?

Such a wonderful conversation. It's been a while since the last time I knew about Sophie Hagen in The Guilty Feminist. Her book sounds amazing.

imagine censuring a word in the title when you actually want to have an honest, much needed conversation about a toxic industry and about healthier options.

it stiles me that this spike in popularity of diabetic drugs amongst the financial elite is coming on the heels of what (from my perspective) was the biggest global outrage over just the cost of insulin in the us compared to other countries. is this new fad normalizing high prices for these lifesaving drugs...AGAIN?
