In this episode we are living our mutant fantasy with guest Chris Riley, co-founder and producer of The Uncanny Experience, an immersive convention for X-Men fans / co-host of the fantastic podcast X-Reads. This is the episode for anyone who has ever longed to be tapped on the shoulder by an X-Man and invited onto the team. We unpack Chris' superhero origin story (including some Emma Frost gender-bend cosplay) and unpack the power of found family as we tackle Uncanny X-Men 8 (July, 2013) where Magneto punches Cyclops in the face, Magik is the Magik School Bus, and one young teen learns he can control cars and promptly gets shot for it. What does Uncanny X-Men 8 say about Chris' future? Tune in to find out! Chris Riley co-founded and produces The Uncanny Experience, an immersive convention for X-Men fans. He also co-hosts X-Reads: An X-Men Experience, a podcast that connects fans with the creators behind beloved X-Men stories, revisiting classic issues. In addition, Chris is involved with Q Con, an LGBTQIA+ pop culture convention in West Hollywood, where he serves as both a producer and the Executive Producer of its podcast counterpart. His work extends across various roles at pop culture conventions, including community management, social media coordination, cosplay competition organization, diversity initiatives, and panel programming. Beyond his professional endeavors, Chris has been active in supporting non-profit organizations through organizing diversity panels, after-parties, and stage shows. As an avid comic book reader from an early age, Cassie is considered a “go-to” girl when it comes to comics. You may also know him from Hulu’s High Fidelity and The Path. Neil’s critically-acclaimed solo show, Mister Miss America, had its world premiere off-Broadway at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre in Summer 2022.
