Mark Tan, founder of Immersell, shares a similar vision for the future of retail. His company helps stores create pop-up shops in the metaverse. During the COVID lockdown, he built an unfinished virtual world to explain how vaccines interact with the virus, which helped him learn building and scripting. He then created a "store" for an imaginary client, featuring elements like a "Squid Game" glass bridge. Despite its lack of a consistent theme, this project attracted his first real business owner, allowing him to refine his design skills and operational processes. From this experience, Mark began offering services to help businesses design engaging and interactive metaverse spaces to tell their stories, boost brand image, and drive sales. Believing that immersive experiences are the future, he leveraged his gaming background to enhance his work. Noticing limitations in platforms like Horizon Worlds—such as the lack of native URL access and customer data capture—he developed the Pop-up Store System. This innovative solution integrates payment into metaverse stores without violating community guidelines, making him well-known in the Horizon Worlds community. Charlie Fink writes the weekly Forbes column "This Week in XR" and co-hosts its companion podcast. He is the author of the critically acclaimed AR-enabled books Charlie Fink’s Metaverse (2017), and Convergence, How The World Will Be Painted With Data (2019). Fink teaches at Chapman University in Orange, CA, and at ASU. Fink's forty-year career at the intersection of popular culture and technology began at Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1987 where he famously came up with the idea for “The Lion King" and subsequently became the studio’s youngest creative vice-president. Fink's work in technology began in 1992 when he joined Tim Disney’s pioneering location-based VR company, Virtual World Entertainment, as its COO. In 1995, AOL recruited Fink to be Senior Vice President & Chief Creative Officer of AOL Studios (1995-1999). He was also President of American Greetings Interactive and Blue Mountain (2000-2004). Today our guest is Paul Hoover. Paul Hoover is on a mission: to live on the cutting edge of technology and steer human-computer interaction toward a preferred future. Since 2003, Paul has been at the forefront of innovative computing technologies. He started his journey with pen computing in the Tablet PC group at Microsoft, where he honed his skills in interaction design through prototyping and creating pen interfaces for Windows. He then moved to the original Surface team, mastering tangible computing and massive multitouch interaction under industry leaders like Daniel Wigdor and August de los Reyes. Paul's career took a significant turn at Artefact in 2010, where he explored gestural interaction and emerging input paradigms. His work included designing interfaces for Intuitive Surgical's minimally invasive surgical robots, observing real surgeries to perfect the surgeon interface. This unique experience laid the groundwork for his contributions to mixed reality with the Magic Leap UX team, where he aimed to prevent isolated digital realities and pitched the concept for Storyboard VR, a VR ideation tool. At Oculus, Paul initially focused on designing AR communication interfaces and later transitioned to building AR games. Oliver D'Adda is based in Turin, Italy, and is a physiotherapist and programmer integrating rehabilitation and healthcare with emergent technologies, particularly immersive technology (VR/MR). He works both as a chartered physiotherapist and as a software developer, focusing on programming and accessible UI design. Additionally, he is a certified sound engineer with a background as a musician and voice-over actor. His clinical expertise as a physiotherapist focuses on neurological pathology, hydrokinetic pool therapy, telerehabilitation, and robotics. As a developer, Oliver has developed VR Kinesis, a pioneering VR application for rehabilitation, exergaming, and fitness accessibility. He currently collaborates as a developer with Softcare Studios, contributing to the creation of VR/MR solutions for medical training and patient care, integrating his healthcare expertise with his software development skills. Oliver is also involved with the Medical XR Advisory Council and XRSI Europe, where he contributes to the development and safety of immersive healthcare technologies. He has been the Podcast host of "Singularity Watch" podcast by Ready Hacker One, exploring the future of technology in healthcare and beyond.
