This is the final episode in a five-part series, Navigating Neurodiverse Relationships, where my co-host, Mona Kay, talks with me about steps for addressing relationship challenges to find a path forward. We share personal stories and insights into the challenges we faced in our own marriages.  In this episode, we specifically discuss how inappropriate hope is such a common problem for  partners and couples, and how other obstacles like low self-worth and chasing dead-ends lead to increasing distress and antagonism in neurodiverse relationships. The final step navigating your neurodiverse relationship involves evaluating all of your choices and options and implementing changes for yourself. No more staying stuck. Let us help you get out of the quicksand to determine a real path forward!   00:00 Season 4:: Navigating Neurodiverse Relationships 00:28 The Five Key Step 01:37 The Final Episode: Step Five - Figuring Out a Path Forward 04:03 Inappropriate Hope 12:17 Healing and Moving Forward 20:52 Finding Happiness and Peace 26:12 Concluding Thoughts and Resources for Neurodiverse Couples   ___________________ 👩‍💼 Hi, I'm Jodi Carlton, a leading world expert on adult #neurodiverserelationship dynamics and interpersonal #communication.  I am a seasoned professional with 20+ years of experience as a #therapist and #relationshipcoach specializing in #autism, #ADHD, #anxiety, #depression, and #abuse.  I am #trauma certified and trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy and hypnosis.    MY PERSONAL STORY: Although I have professional counselor education and training, my life experiences in my own neurodiverse marriage, as a parent to my #autisticdaughter and #adhd son, and my relationships with other neurodiverse family and friends have been my personal training ground. This week's episode is part two of my conversation with Gwen Janssen. So if you missed part one, go back and listen to the last episode that was aired two weeks ago. Gwen and I had so much to talk about it was too much to put into one episode. Today, she really gets personal about her own relationships and how being neurodiverse has affected her relationships in dating, but also family relationships and friendships.    Also, if you're really enjoying this podcast, please don't forget to leave us a review because it really matters in how these podcast platforms deliver podcasts to people like you.    Be sure to subscribe if you're watching on YouTube to make sure you get updates on all the latest videos that I publish there. ___________________ 👩‍💼 Hi, I'm Jodi Carlton and I'm a leading world expert on adult autistic relationship dynamics and communication. Let's talk about masking!   Episode #1 of Season 3 features Wendy, a neurodivergent wife to a neurodivergent husband, and mom to neurodivergent kiddos. She is a moderator in my Mixed Neurotype Facebook Group (search Jodi Carlton on Facebook) and follower of the podcast.   Wendy asked me to have a conversation with her about masking, which is a topic that comes up frequently in conversations about neurodiversity. Wendy shares her own personal experiences and insights about masking, and the strategies she uses in social interactions. Wendy has lived most of her adult life without knowing about her neurodiversity.   Watch the full episode on YouTube at YouTube.com/@JodiCarlton.   ___________________ 👩‍💼 Hi, I'm Jodi Carlton and I'm a leading world expert on adult autistic relationship dynamics and communication. I am really, really excited today to have my best friend Kathy, on the show.  She is the last of the mini series this summer on communication and of me sharing my neurodiverse family and friends with you.   This two-part episode is one of my favorite yet because Kathy and I talk about so much!  There's so much packed into these two episodes.  Kathy and I talk about our own friendship, which is a neurodiverse relationship.  We talk about her family of very different neurodiverse personalities...and as best friends do she even calls me out on something that's actually really important! We have a very good conversation about it that's going to be very relatable to so, so many of you.  You're going to want to listen up  to hear what we have to say about that. Kathy also has some amazing insight as well about being neurodiverse, herself, and the mother of two neurodiverse children who are practically grown now themselves.  She shares the strategies that she's used to parent them and help them in their lives even as she's realized later in life that she's neurodiverse herself. ___________________ 👩‍💼 Hi, I'm Jodi Carlton and I'm a leading world expert on adult autistic relationship dynamics and communication. In last week's show, during my chat with my mother, I mentioned how those of us who are neurotypical and neurodiverse speak different languages.  We have many different kinds of language...emotion, logic, social, relationship, love...and we all speak them in different kinds of ways, and with different levels of fluency. I also told you in the last show that my next guest is my best friend Kathy, who has her own neurodiverse family and who has her own neurodiverse traits, herself.  In that chat she and I talk about our own friendship and how we've dealt with our differences through the years....BUT...I've decided to wait until next week to air part one of our conversation.   This week I'm going to share with you the audio from a "live" I did in my private Facebook group where I talked about these different languages we speak.  It seemed so relevant!  So here you go and tune in next week for my chat with Kathy. ___________________ 👩‍💼 Hi, I'm Jodi Carlton and I'm a leading world expert on adult autistic relationship dynamics and communication.
