YOUser: Das Jahrhundert des Konsumenten YOU_ser: Das Jahrhundert des Konsumenten, 21.10.2007 - 30.04.2009, ZKM | Medienmuseum. Die Geschichte der Betrachter von Kunst und der Besucher von Museen hat im 20. Jahrhundert neue Akzente erhalten. Nach 1945 hat in der Neuen Musik und in der bildenden Kunst die Partizipation des Publikums als Teil des Kunstwerkes eingesetzt. Die Medienkunst hat die Teilnahme des Betrachters am Entstehen des Kunstwerkes als Interaktivität zwischen Betrachter und Kunstwerk, im Sinne einer wechselseitigen Beeinflussung, etabliert. Im 21. Jahrhundert erzeugt nun der Betrachter durch die Möglichkeiten des Internets auch die Inhalte der Kunstwerke, die untereinander ausgetauscht und im Netz frei verteilt werden können. Der Betrachter wird zum Nutzer/User. Die Ausstellung »YOU_ser: Das Jahrhundert des Konsumenten« zeigt mit wechselnden Kunstwerken und Positionen Konturen dieser neuen Nutzerkunst./// In the nineteenth century, the twentieth century was imagined as one of mobilization and personalization technologies. These fantastical visions arrived with the PC and mobile phone. Such technologies have changed art, too. In the twentieth century, the history of the beholders of art and visitors to museums acquired new accents. After 1945, audience participation began to enter as part of the artwork in New Music and in the fine arts. Media art established the participation of the beholder in the creation of an artwork as interactivity between beholder and artwork: in terms of mutual influence (this interaction can be realized on the first floor of the ZKM | Media Museum). In the twenty-first century, through the possibilities of the Internet, the beholder now also generates the content of artworks, which are exchanged and freely distributed online. The beholder becomes a user. Over the next one to two years, the exhibition »YOU_ser: The Century of the Consumer« will show the first contours of this new user-based art through changing art works and positions.

Interview mit Susanna Kraus

Susanna Kraus, YOU_ser, 21.10.2007 - 30.04.2009, ZKM | Medienmuseum. Kontrapunktisch zu den Möglichkeiten der neuen Medien bietet die weltweit größte analoge fotografische Apparatur Camera Imago1:1 (1972 – 2007) weder die Gelegenheit der Vervielfältigung noch der Bearbeitung des Bildes. Betritt der Besucher die Camera Imago1:1 wird er Teil der begehbaren Rauminstallation. Sein seitenrichtiges Spiegelbild kann durch eine eigens für die 1:1-Fotografie entwickelte Optik auf ein fotografisches Umkehrpapier von zwei Metern Höhe projiziert werden. Für die Ausstellung ZKM1:1, 28.11.2008 - 06.01.2009, ZKM_Museumsbalkon, entstanden auf diese Weise die Portraits von zahlreichen Mitarbeitern des ZKM. In contrast to the possibilities of new media, the largest analog camera in the world, Camera Imago 1:1 (1972 – 2007), provides neither the possibility for reproduction nor for image processing: When entering Camera Imago1:1 the visitor becomes part of the mobile spatial installation. Its lateral mirror image can be projected onto reversible photographic paper up to a height of two meters by way of a lens developed especially for 1:1 photography. In this way, the portraits of numerous colleagues were produced for the exhibition ZKM1:1, 28 November, 2008 – 6 January, 2009, at the ZKM_Museum Balcony.

Marc Lee, YOU_ser, 21.10.2007-30.04.2009, ZKM | Medienmuseum. In der interaktiven Medieninstallation Breaking The News – Be a News-Jockey (2007) fokussiert der Medienkünstler und Softwareentwickler den Aspekt des Zufalls innerhalb der internetbasierten Informationstechnologie. Im Unterschied zu herkömmlichen Radio- und Fernsehformaten können die neuen Medien interaktiv genutzt werden. Der künstlerische Urheber fungiert auf dieser Plattform als Ideengeber oder Dienstleister, dessen Einfälle sich durch eine zufällige Gemeinschaft von Nutzern weiterentwickeln lassen. Diese Gemeinschaft setzt Prozesse in Gang, die neue Formen des Ausdrucks und des Diskurses generieren. Marc Lee, YOU_ser, 21 October, 2007 – 30 April, 2009, at the ZKM | Media Museum. In the interactive media installation Breaking The News – Be a News-Jockey (2007), the media artist and software developer focuses on the aspects of chance within Internet-based information technology. In contrast to the traditional radio and television formats, the new media can be used interactively. On this platform, the artistic creator functions as the initiator of ideas or as service provider, whose ideas it becomes possible to develop further by way of a random community of users. This community then puts processes into motion, which, in turn, generate new forms of expression and discourse.
