This episode explores what it means to publish and write with a purpose. And a secret is revealed: just like writing, even publishing brings challenges, passes, and hardships. Yet, publishing/writing with a purpose brings benefits in all of our lives whether we are writers, agents, editors, or publishers. In this episode, Jon Seymour (Publisher) and Danielle Render Turmaud (Host) talk about the meaningful steps we can all take towards making our dreams come true and making a difference in our world. Disappointments are frequent for writers who strive towards publication. But there is one disappointment that would strike fear in the heart of all writers … a debut cancellation. This episode journeys through the topic of making meaning/creating beauty even amidst the disappointments with author Kimberly Horch, who did just that after a debut cancellation. Whether it’s a debut cancellation, an agent pass, an editor pass, a critique that wasn’t what you hoped for, a reader review that left you discouraged, or something else, we hope that this episode helps you find some meaning and beauty even amidst your disappointments. You, Me, and the Writing Journey (X, Instagram, and BlueSky): @YMWJPodcastPodcast Website: https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm/you-me-the-writing-journey-podcast Kimberly Horch (Author):Instagram: Kimberly shares ideas and books to promoteintentional kindness and connection as @thedaybrighteningcommitteeX: @kimberlyhorch Danielle Render Turmaud (Host/AgentedAuthor/Therapist):X, BlueSky, and Instagram: @DrenderturmaudWebsite: https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm
Something that is talked about often in the writing community is how challenging the path to publication can be. Yet, for many of us, publishing our stories is our DREAM. So, what if instead of having to “survive” our dreams, we as a community were able to find ways to “thrive” and “live” amidst the dreams we are working so hard for? In this episode, Rowan Brighton Brown and I discuss just that: some methods that Rowan has used to help them find joy even when querying or on submission. This episode has something for everyone: encouragement, hope, applicable and practical tools, and even discussions of psychological research and neurobiology. Anxiety, a word that refers to “fear, worry, or dread.” Butnot just a word, an experience so many in the writing community relate to as they navigate the writing journey (and life). The writing journey is one full of factors that can elicit anxiety (lack of control, unpredictability, long waiting periods with silence, and so much more). In this episode, award-winning author Rebecca Gardyn Levington and host Danielle Render Turmaud talk about ways to navigate and cope with anxiety in the writing journey. You, Me, and the Writing Journey(X and BlueSky):@YMWJPodcastPodcast Website: https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm/you-me-the-writing-journey-podcast Rebecca Gardyn Levington (Award-Winning Author): Website: https://rebeccagardynlevington.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/rebeccagardynlevington/Twitter/X: https://x.com/WriterRebeccaGLBlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/rebeccaglevington.bsky.socialFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/WriterRebeccaGL Danielle Render Turmaud (Host/AgentedAuthor/Therapist):X, BlueSky, and Instagram: @DrenderturmaudWebsite:https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm
A common experience that writers/creators face in the writing journey is … you guessed it, getting critiqued! Whether it's critiques from critique partners, beta readers, agents, or editors, we often receive (and give) critiques. This episode includes a conversation with writer and literary agent Lisa Gouldy on how to give critiques that not only support the story’s success, but also support the writer’s heart. This episode is full of pure gold as we hear about how to support each other well in our journey! (And one that YMWJ Podcast host Danielle Render Turmaud truly believes every critique partner, beta reader, or person critiquing writers' work should listen to before critiquing another manuscript!)You, Me, and the Writing Journey(X and BlueSky): @YMWJPodcastPodcast Website:https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm/you-me-the-writing-journey-podcastLisa Gouldy (Writer/Agent):X: @planningforsunBlueSky: @planningforsunCorvisiero Lit Agency Website and MSWL: https://www.corvisieroagency.com/lisa-gouldy.html Danielle Render Turmaud(Host/AgentedAuthor/Therapist):X, BlueSky, and Instagram: @DrenderturmaudWebsite: https://danielleturmaud9.wixsite.com/danielle-render-turm
The writing journey is full of many waves--waves of joy, waves of silence, waves of “no’s”, and so much more. In this episode, YMWJ Podcast host Danielle Render Turmaud talks with award-winning author and former boat captain Blair Williamson about persevering amidst the waves. We all ride the waves of writing and publishing but we don’t have to do it alone (and we can find some boogie boards along the way to ride the waves). In this episode, you will be reminded that imposter syndrome is a common phenomenon in the writing community. You will hear a collection of vulnerable/authentic stories from published authors, agented authors, and querying authors who all navigate imposter syndrome. If you experience imposter syndrome, we hope that these stories help you see that you are not alone. And, this episode will remind you that Imposter syndrome is not a syndrome. It’s a common human experience that we feel as we try to figure out who are and where we fit into the world/the writing industry.(Trigger warnings: This episode includes disclosures of experiences of depression, cancer, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, anxiety, and more. One part of the writing journey that authors/creators often cringe at is marketing and self-promotion ... until now. In this episode, published and award-winning author Jolene Gutiérrezreminds us that self-promotion (at all stages of the writing journey) isn't about "selling" ourselves or our books, it's about celebrating our stories and what we've created.
