the Ayatollah was shitty but he wasn't bent on world domination. Despite the fact that the Iraqis were bombarding them with chemical weapons (sarin and mustard gas) they refused to cross the border when they were pushing them back to show the world they werent the aggressors. This is according to Robert Fisk who was boots on the ground at the time. the US tried to convince everyone else they were the ones using the chemical weapons at the time but it wasn't true. And when we invaded Iraq we pointed to their use of chemical weapons during the Iran Iraq war as a reason why. Also, there was a congressional hearing about how Saddam's anthrax was mysteriously identical to our lab samples. hmmm... Anyways. As shitty as he was he wasn't imperialistic, if anything America is probably the most expansionist out of any countries.

The "Where were you?" thought process around when you found out Diana died is so accurate. I remember the morning I woke up and saw that headline, and where I was, and how it made me feel. Odd, how those events really stand out.

Huge assumptions being made here, don't see how this is different to the trial itself? Most parents can tell the difference when their kids are playing or not and most kids have a surprisingly strong sense of morality, so just as these podcasters are assuming a child would stick with a lie, I don't agree, if asked in the right way a child would probably tell the truth, especially if they understood the lie would harm a teacher they like. Typically in sex abuse cases there is very little evidence. I would be more on board if they were putting forward alternative evidence of explaining the details of how a 7 year trial (assuming not everyone was incompetent as is being suggested here) but just seems to be opinion on heavy topics which probably shouldn't be spoken about using pseudo-psygchology.

Diana's father sounds like an abusive and violent man. He obviously did not demand custody over his children because he loved them and wanted to parent them. They were only a tool in his need to punish their mother. Their needs, wants and happiness were not on his agenda. add to that the ever changing nannies and boarding school. And you will end up with a child who suffer from attachment challenges and shit lot of trauma. 🤷

I went to high school with Dahmer's first victim. I really feel bad for Dahmer. His parents were awful. They deserted him when he was barely a teenager and moved to Florida, leaving him alone in their house. Sometimes being ignored is worse than being beaten. None of this excuses what he did, but he didn't want to be excused. The prison priest said Dahmer would come and see him every day, and said his greatest fear that God didn't believe he was sorry. He'd also started refusing his Prozac because he didn't think it was right that he should feel better and the families of his victims were still suffering. I think his murder in prison was God showing him mercy. Steven Hicks was a nice kid. His parents thought he had run away to New York, and would post flyers every September, asking if anybody had seen him. We made Dahmer. No one paid attention to him, everyone ignored him. Loneliness drove him insane. I can't help but feel terrible about the whole thing.

On the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan: "it doenst really work out." This show is great, and is usually wholesomely funny, but this time I had to laugh at the gross oversimplification. Not the best moment in a generally excellent piece of media.

guessing hosts haven't worked in this type of environment/government to have an understanding of type of job. it's easy to criticize from a paper report written from one side/viewpoint. I'm not making light of the shootings but this episode is a disappointment.
