Wendy Borlabi never considered herself ambitious but today she is the performance coach for the Chicago Bulls.  You don’t rise to this stature in the sports world taking life lightly.  She continued to connect the dots in her career, stay focused and put one foot in front of the other.  Originally from Ghana, her dad and brother watched a lot of American football...and that was family time together. It became synonymous with comfort and love and familiarity.     She is not only highly motivated to help players get the best performance out of their game, but she also had twins by a surrogate because the time had come. She didn’t have a partner and she was looking at an operation that could affect her uterus.  So she went for it and within months of making the decision, was pregnant.   A rule breaker and a game changer, Wendy doles out some incredible “Wendy-isms” on how to have the best performance you can in your life. Join us on You Tube for the live video recording of this interview. https://youtu.be/P4SnEIrhs5M  Unedited, you will feel like we just came into your living room with our conversation!

Kimberly Adams existed for a long time in a world of fear and intimidation in sales until she had an incredible boss who inspired her to look closer at the way she operated in the world. She speaks about her magical methods for building a business from $700K to $30M with a badass group of women and her “corporate hippie” viewpoint. Her speaking and book goals are focused on changing the male-dominated way of working and showing teams how to work together in corporate America by operating from a place of Joy and Love, and as a family!    She went through a very deep process in understanding the book she needed to write. We worked together on an outline of her book (which she says was like ten hours of therapy!), and then she went out and built this incredible life even while being laid off twice.  After 31 years of working in corporate America, she decided to be a partner and a bonus mom.  Soon more material was unblocked, and her book The Corporate Hippie is releasing this March!    Kimberly is a manifestor of magic in her own life, and ready to inspire others to go after all of their dreams through trusting their intuition, practicing passionate self-care, and being deeply heart-led. You can change your life in an instant by utilizing her  tools…Magical stuff that you can’t make up once you trust and believe.  WIN A $25 Amazon card!!!! After the episode, The Bigger Message in the Book, was my highest rated and downloaded episode, I reserved another week’s time slot for more book mindset tips and tools. Dealing with Rejection, Distraction, and Justification. I have been writing for a long long time, in the movies, and also in books. I also have been helping storytellers find their voice for many decades (which makes me seem really old, but who’s counting…).  In this recording, I address the three horsemen that stand in the way of writers successfully saying yes to their book journey: Rejection, Distraction, and Justification.  I pack a lot of psychological nuance into this episode as humans can exhaust themselves jumping through hoops to avoid what they are called to do.  It is truly astonishing how much resistance is prevalent with book writing contrasted by an equally voracious desire to become an author.  The polarity seems insurmountable but I can assure you, there are not only paths to least resistance, but solutions to get through the mud and on the broad highway to writer freedom!   WIN A $25 Amazon card!!!!   Fill out our survey about what you like about the podcast (and the requirement is to have listened to three episodes) and we will enter you to win a card. Stephanie Morimoto, owner and CEO of the brand Asutra, is an organic leader.  She was a customer of Asutra and passionate about the products when she discovered the company was for sale. She likes to invest in companies that she can shape and grow, and after a twelve year career helping educational non-profits raise $500 million, she saw a fantastic opportunity with Asutra. Tennis great Venus Williams also was in love with the magnesium products for pain and joined the company as a co-owner and Chief Brand Officer.    Stephanie speaks with me on what it was like to raise funds in the education space, and her transition into business ownership. She reveals undiscussed barriers for women like the hurdle of selling a female-driven product to a male investor, or the lack of education for women on how to find funding.     Stephanie attributes her entrepreneurial spirit to her grandfather who was incarcerated in WWII internment camps for Japanese Americans, then served in the National Guard. Her grandfather stood by the golden rule - treat people how you want to be treated.  She also credits her career to excellent mentorship which she pays forward.    A self-care product company, Asutra focuses on women but find their products for relief from pain after exercise or sleep aids are for everyone.   Asutra has bigger and bolder plans in the works for 2021, so keep your eyes peeled.    We want to know who YOU are, our listeners, which is why we do what we do every week!  Help a gal out and let me know what is working on the show!  Head over to astoryinside.com/survey.
Founder of FitChick Granola Tammy D’Onofrio gets real about what she had to pull herself out from under to become the face on her brand (which is sold in national supermarket chain Gelsons).  She first had to make the decision that she can longer feel like she was a loser, which can connect for many of us to that sense of not belonging in a family of origin.  She often finds when she tells her story, which includes sexual abuse, that so many women look to her strength to then share the secrets of their past.  She built the granola business with no money, with an idea that came from making her kids healthy snacks, while simultaneously calling in the love of her life (who by the way is hot and nine years younger).    Women need to believe we can have it all, go for our dreams, even if in our darkest hours the past seems to be bumping up against our best efforts.  Tammy gives her time to women who want to start businesses and offers spectacular advice on how to go into 2021 with the world at your feet, not on your shoulders.    Want 20% off amazing granola?  Go to Fitchickgranola.com and enter BOOKS at checkout!   We need YOU for two minutes!  We would love to know what you think about our podcast!  It helps us bring more amazing guests to the table.  Just 2 minutes at https://www.astoryinside.com/survey/.  Thank you!
Kristen Noel created the popular and celebrated Best Self Magazine to connect mind, body and spirit as well as showcase thought leaders.  She had been on the fence about writing her memoir six years ago so instead she dove into knowing more about writing and editing as the creator of a magazine platform.  Next thing she knew, she had the gratifying job of cultivating so many amazing writers but not any time for her own book.     She has had an incredible past, once making a quarter million dollars a year (in the 90s!) as a model, and having the authorities break down her door due to illegal trading activity by her ex husband. She went from this perfect life to everything she knew shattered.  She re-built which is what resilient women do, and today is contemplating that now may be finally her time… to write that book.   Please take 3-5 minutes to fill out our show survey.  We want to know who YOU are, our listeners, which is why we do what we do every week!  Head over to astoryinside.com/survey.
Sonja Marie is proud of her work as an astrologer; so much so she wrote an astrological memoir called The Signs, interweaving life experiences in the music industry with a candid unfolding of what astrology means to us as a collective voice. It’s no surprise she would use words to express herself as millions have already appreciated her poetic prowess over the last twenty years as one of three writers featured on the multi-platinum soundtrack, Waiting To Exhale.     Her down to earth approach to the ancient science of astrology has garnered many followers, including MC Lyte, Loni Love and Angelique Perrin, who selected Sonja as the resident astrologer of their radio show, Cafe Mocha Radio. ESSENCE Magazine also celebrates her insights as their monthly horoscope columnist for over 3 million subscribers. Sonja’s national television appearances include “The Steve Harvey Show” and “The Doctors”.  You can buy her book at https://store.bookbaby.com/book/the-signs.   We are excited to have her on the show to talk astrology, writing and what 2021 has in store for us.   We want to know who YOU are, our listeners, which is why we do what we do every week! Whenever you feel discomfort, Barbara Fonti, a pioneer with mental fitness, directs you to ask yourself,  what is the lie I am telling myself?  Once you label a fear as a lie, it loses its power and your negative thoughts can take a back seat to positivity. As part of a global collective focused on living life in peak performance, Barbara’s practice focuses on positive emotions versus negative, with a combination of psychology and neuroscience as well as the habits of successful people who are high level performers.    If you don’t believe you are ready to do this work, Barbara would disagree.  You are simply using up too much energy in the negative spaces of fear.  If you simply want to achieve more (which is everyone), you are a candidate for mental fitness.     Here are a few  amazing tips of successful people to help you with your mental fitness entering 2021: If something doesn’t go the way you hope it goes, ask yourself what are three possible positive outcomes.  Put together your goals. When you look back at what you have achieved one year later, you will be impressed with yourself.  Most successful people are seeking to learn more and grow more. Self care and self-reflection is non-negotiable.   Please take 3-5 minutes to fill out our show survey.  We want to know who YOU are, our listeners, which is why we do what we do every week!  Head over to https://www.astoryinside.com/survey/

Gerard Gibbons, President of SMB & US Marketing for UPS, has been with the company for thirty years, starting as a package car driver.   His mom, an Inglewood business owner, (who used UPS!) and step father were positive engaged role models which ensured he stayed on the right side of the tracks.  Gerard did not expect to ascend to the level he is at at UPS.  He had to pinch himself - a young skinny kid growing up in Inglewood - when he found himself in Sydney with Olympic athletes and C Suite executives as UPS was the Olympic sponsor.  He has great humility when he speaks about being voted one of the Most Powerful Executives in America by Black Enterprise Magazine.     When I asked him what he would write a book about, he said finding a mentor, a sponsor and having a sense of curiosity about the business you are in.  He also emphasized the importance of networking and showing up.  You never know who you are going to meet who can have influence on your career, or the next big contract. Comedian, actress and best selling author Kerri Pomarolli is a woman of faith just like Jerry Seinfled is a Jewish comedian.  It makes it into her act, but she is also simply authentic on stage with whatever is going down in her life as a mom and in her love life.  Sticking it out as a female in the comedy world  - with appearances on the Tonight Show 29 times - wasn’t as hard as having to turn down deals where her value was being questioned.  She now tours on her own, and it is a little lonely and exhausting but she wouldn’t trade it for anything. She shares some darn funny touring and hotel stories including sleeping in “Tommy’s room” in the basement of an Ohio house. She is super grateful for a good bed, and of course, lots of laughs. Business Coach and former personal chef Stephanie Heller is a straight shooter when it comes to the high price of overthinking.   She wants people to not buy into their broken stories because the costs are vast.  Slower decisions in business, losing time because you don’t know what to focus on, not knowing what to invest in or how close you are to people or let in…  are all caused by overthinking.     Her thriving business once employed eight other chefs - cooking for 30 different athletes and sports club owners and for the Dodgers spring training major and minor league teams - but she overthought even with the success.  She eventually walked away from a fantastic income for eleven years to pursue her dream to help other people who are struggling… with what used to drain her on a daily basis… overthinking.     Now she has freedom with coaching, and can still cook to relax (she gives a wonderful pesto recipe at the end you don’t want to miss.)    Right now in quarantine we are overthinking our kids schooling, health of aging parents, the future of our businesses…  and we need to be vigilant to not dulling ourselves with various unhealthy distractions.  These behaviors she outlines (which she calls buffering) can hold us back from our dreams.   The true only way through overthinking is to be okay in the uncertainty.   Are you an aspiring author? Felicia "ONYI" Richards, an artist and a healer,  helps us with grounding into joy. No matter what happens there is always joy to be found because that is the natural state of existence. Nothing can steal your joy.  Accountability and ownership come into play in remaining in a more positive state of mind. Her work drives people to realize they have agency and power when it comes to how they want to feel and live.  She suggests you stay in your power to feel your joy, and not attach to anger.  Anger can inform us about situations and we can thank that emotion for how it is teaching us.   Right now we are in a state of fear in our country and the world.  We are seeking blame.  She educates us in a  way to look at fear from a West African practice, and if you are looking for a new perspective, her teachings inspire us to be bold and own our personal energy.  She gives three quick tips for staying in joy over the next two weeks: Do what brings you joy - dancing, singing, and in the highest vibration you can be in, Be grounded.  Go outside, touch the earth.  Be in a reflection of nature. Use everything for a positive benefit.    Are you an aspiring author? If so, what is holding you back from getting naked and honest with your story? Many of us live in urban environments which are inherently more stressful than living on a farm or in nature. Much of that stress, though, is created by lack of sleep and not actively seeking solutions for good nutrients.  Then stress causes mounting medical problems and down the rabbit hole goes our health.   Sleep doesn’t cost you anything (all you have to do is put down that phone.)  Mushrooms boost the immune system (and can be bought at the 99 cents store), and meditation, even in a hectic environment, can simply be sitting next to a plant, under a tree or having a small herb garden in your window sill.  These tips are just a few of the valuable insights provided by primary care and integrative physician Dr. Daniela Connelly. Originally from Ecuador, Dr. Connelly moved to the US for her masters in public health which led her to South Africa working on the impact of HIV on health care workers.  After four years there and four kids in tow, her family settled down on a farm in New England.  Sometimes thought of as a kooky doctor who could be known to give a recipe for overnight oats versus a statin, Dr. Connelly  untangles the small elements that can reduce stress and help you become healthier faster. She shares her valuable wisdom at a time when we are suffering a rise in fatigue and pain under the continual fear and discussion of a global pandemic.  If you think YOU should write a book, head on over to A Story Inside Books, and sign up for our newsletter to learn how we help our clients write books that can achieve best seller status. www.astoryinside.com   Connect with Daniela: Daniela Connelly MD - Home  (https://www.facebook.com/DanielaConnellyMD)
Dana Pharant is not afraid to take the alternative road when it comes to healing and self-expression. Seeing the results of dungeon play in healing her own abuse trauma, she spent six years as a dominatrix, helping her clients step into their power.  Shortly after, she created a seven figure spa product business, but did not bring in her dominatrix teaching to leadership.  While a hard lesson (she lost that business), she quickly recovered and has since built a new coaching business, written books, won awards and now holds magic mushroom ceremonies for healing. Award winning fiction podcast creator and YA author Lauren Shippen talks with us about how creating The Bright Sessions gave her creative freedom and authority in her career.  She started with a character who time travels with panic attacks, minimal equipment and YouTube editing tutorials and has skyrocketed her career in a short five years.  Supported by an organic community, she received a three book deal, wrote a Marvel audio show, and landed on Forbes 30 under 30 in media.  She is a beautiful example of how an organic idea built out of necessity turned into a long withstanding IP and further doors opening in her career. When Rory Green was eight, she realized her mother author Jackie Collins was famous.  On a book tour in Australia, she experienced the paparazzi and her mother’s nightly appearances on talk shows.  Raised to believe she could do anything, and knowing she too was a writer, Rory struggled with the fear of falling short in her own literary career under the shadow of such a legend.  When she developed breast cancer, at the same time as her mom was dying of breast cancer, and her grandmother had died of breast cancer, she felt there was a long held trauma she would fight… and she did.  Today she opens candidly about her relationship with Jackie, and her own writing career as a guide and coach.     If you think YOU should write a book, head on over to A Story Inside Books, and sign up for our newsletter to learn how we help our clients write books that can achieve best seller status. www.astoryinside.com Connect with Rory: http://www.writetobeyou.com
Martial Artist Sister Nau Ti has trained with the best in the hard and soft styles of martial arts.  As a queer black female who was raised in South Central Los Angeles where gang affiliation was the norm, and after time in the US Airforce, she had a close friend taken out by the violence.  This experience set her on a  journey of further understanding awareness of our surroundings and how we make choices every day to practice self-defense.  As her book coach, I had the privilege to partake in deep discussions with her in writing her book on  how to pre-empt the “great fight” society seems to always push towards us, and live in peace.   If you think YOU should write a book, head on over to A Story Inside Books, and sign up for our newsletter to learn how we help our clients write books that can achieve best seller status. www.astoryinside.com You can connect with Sister Nau-T @: https://www.instagram.com/sisnaut/
Crowdsurf co-founder and marketing expert Cassie Petrey has been on the Forbes’ “30 Under 30”, Variety’s "Hollywood's New Leaders in Digital” and named one of Billboard’s Digital Power Players in 2018 and 2019.   In our talk, we look at how her generation is still grappling with the same level of problems of gender equality in accolades, but also women making time in their busy lives to market themselves.  She started to create her own content to fill the lack of celebrity female executives on social media with powerful voices and messaging. She loves the short poignant content that she calls “word surgery” that one can do on Twitter. Since she works with teen pop artists, a lot of young people follow her, and can relate when she is honest about anxiety. I was very touched that she makes herself available to anyone who needs to talk through their troubles on DM or email.  If you think YOU should write a book, head on over to A Story Inside Books, and sign up for our newsletter to learn how we help our clients write books that can achieve best seller status. www.astoryinside.com

Hello, I'm a new listener and this is one of my favorite episodes so far! As a writer of short inspirational books myself, you've reminded me of the importance of letting a ten minute piece just be a ten minute piece. Also, there is a nearly finished book in the wings for me and I need to make time to complete it, and this has inspired me to go ahead and take advantage of the short period of times I have and do that. Thank you so much!
