Jill Haber is a self-proclaimed People Connector and has gained valuable networking throughout her career. She knew she was a networker from an early age and utilized this ability to her advantage. She has over 15 years’ experience developing and executing comprehensive integrated marketing programs for some of the world's top brands including Toyota, Amstel Light, and Hershey’s. Recently, Jill had a LinkedIn post about being laid off during COVID-19 go viral, with over 350,000 views. As a result of the post, Jill was inundated with well wishes and LinkedIn connection requests. She chose to use her new LinkedIn “influencer” status to help others who were laid off or furloughed as a result of the pandemic by highlighting one unemployed person each day to her network. Post views are typically over 2,000 and have gone as high as 5,000 views. Through her new networking endeavor, a reporter from Bloomberg news reached out to Jill to be featured in an article about the extra $600/week for those who are receiving unemployment benefits that ended on July 31st. With so many people like Jill relying on the extra $600/week to help pay the bills, she received comments and direct messages from unemployed people from all over the country. In addition to the article, Bloomberg also featured Jill in a digital short video on the same topic. Jill’s goal is to use her new found “LinkedIn fame” to continue to support the countless wonderful people who are struggling to find work in this economy. She is also a spin instructor and accomplished triathlete, outside of work you can find Jill in the gym, on a hiking trail or navigating the ocean on her paddle board. In this episode, Michael Lark talks about his journey to learn how to network. He is a fellow introvert and didn’t find networking easy to do at first. However, he points out that everything requires practice and he started putting himself out there and engaging in conversations he might not have otherwise joined. He now has a huge network and get most of his professional photography gigs through word of mouth. He also discusses how to build your personal brand. Michael is currently a full-time operations analyst and IT administrator for a Fire Department. Born and raised in Dallas, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Business and Information Systems and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition to his job with the Fire Department, Michael is also a professional sports photographer and owner of Dallas Sports Fanatic, LLC, and Dallas Dance Fanatic. In 2013, Michael began building his personal brand on social media (Twitter/Instagram) as a go-to for news, rumors, insights, and commentary on the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys, as well as other professional sports, teams, and players. MavsFanatic.com brought Michael on as a staff writer and social media coordinator in May 2014, partnering with Ryan Wilson as co-owner of the site. In the summer of 2017, Mavs Fanatic transformed into Dallas Sports Fanatic, a credentialed media organization covering all Dallas-area college and professional sports. That year, Michael also started his own freelance photography company, Michael Lark Photography, specializing in sports and entertainment photography, digital media, and video production. Law School student Sarah Francois tells Alex about her misgivings about social media, and how she deals with them.
Sarah Francois is a third-year student at Brooklyn Law School. During her time at Brooklyn Law School, she has served as a member of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law and the Black Law Students Association. Prior to law school, she obtained an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and a B.A. in English. She was a part of the founding teams of both the NYU poetry slam team and the University of Denver poetry slam team. In her very rare spare time, she streams on Twitch.tv while playing Hearthstone. She is a self-proclaimed introvert and finds networking frustrating at times. On various occasions she has been told she is not doing enough to network, but she feels she is doing all she can to get in front of the people she can who will give her genuine understanding of the working world she wishes to pursue. On this episode we discuss Working From Home and how to do it effectively. We speak with Sandy Zinn who has been working from home since 2012/2013, but working from anywhere since the early 2000s when he was covering the Olympics and Golf for ESPN. For him, it is all about balance and making sure you don’t get sucked too deeply into either work problems or family problems at any one time. When he is working then he is all in, but remembers to take breaks and go all into non-work relate responsibilities like taking his dog on a walk.
Radiance Harris wonders why she spent so much time in endless meetings when she worked in "big law". When she started her own business, she realized she could work on a schedule which brought out the best in her, for her clients. Radiance was a fan of "working from home" before Covid-19, an explains how it can work for law firms and their clients everywhere.
Radiance Harris is an experience-seeker, an action-taker, a minimalist, an old soul, and a God girl. People and relationships are very important to her and she enjoys finding ways to connect with others. She is calm, highly adaptable, and easy-going. She is a mother to a 4 year old girl and an 8 month old boy. She returned to work in July of 2020, but didn’t go into the office. She has an official home office in her living room (previously, her office was in her son's room before he arrived). She works from home every day and plans to do so for the rest of the year. Her company has allowed her to work from home until June 2021. She has unique working hours due to calls with the West Coast of the US, but working from home is a brilliant solution for that. She is still working out some of the kinks, but feels she is able to live a more full life with work from home.
