Last November, I was blessed to attend the JT Foxx Family Reunion in Orlando, Florida. While there I saw Holly Morphew speak about how to make a financial impact and became inspired to push myself out of my comfort zone of ignorance when it comes to financial literacy. Quite honestly, I'm tired of living month-to-month, with only a little bit to fall back on in hard times. Heck. I'm tired of having hard times. While I do not have institutional debt, I do still owe an FFF (Family, Friend, Fool) money. It's enough of a debt to motivate my performance and to teach myself how to get out of this situation. Not only that, my husband and I have considerable aspirations for the future of our family, both here in Australia and his homeland of Nigeria. We will not be able to achieve anything if we continue to do what we've always done. As Henry Ford said: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” Today's interview with Holly is one that taught me a great deal, you too will be educated and inspired by: What a Financial Health Counselor is and why Holly became one What the difference is between a financial adviser and a financial health counselor is What creates financial stress What Rotary International did to help Holly’s career How Holly’s business Financial Impact began Why Holly recommends that you start your business irrespective of accreditation Why Holly has a business coach Holly gets into the nitty gritty of what it means to have financial wellness Why Holly recommends you have a 3-8 month emergency fund in savings and she recommends where to put the money Why debt repayment is a need How Holly defines financial literacy Understanding what your debt burden is how to create different kinds of income Why people fear money and feel it controls them How the messages we receive as children teach us about money management How awareness around money and financial literacy can empower us Why passive income is the way toward financial freedom Holly explains what non-performing debt is and why she says: “Get out of non-performing debt as quickly as possible.". How to calculate your Financial Impact Factor What we’re not told about banking systems, loans, overdrafts and fees What financial freedom looked like to Holly when she started her business and what it looks like today Holly talks about her programs and products and how anyone in the world can benefit from what she teaches Why businesses are beginning to invest in their employee’s financial well-being The ladies who are inspiring Holly’s Inner Mentor at the moment And soooo much more! Judith Van Unen is one of those people I've been blessed to meet that continues to teach me something new with every conversation. Her wealth of knowledge is expansive as today's interview will illustrate. With a background in business that commenced when she was just 16 years old, Judith has owned a number of businesses across a broad range of industries. We explore this experience and discuss what lead her to start the co-directed not-for-profit organisation, Justice Equality Rights Access International. We also dig in deep to the issues surrounding gender quality, women's rights and what is happening on the international stage to continue the conversation. Sourcing guests for our podcast has been a great experience for me. Naturally I looked close to home and business for my initial guests, however as word spread more and more people began to open up and tell me their unique stories. Today's interview is with one such guest. Aaron Zelman, a life insurance adviser.  One thing I would like you to do before you listen today is to ask yourself, do I have a preconceived idea of what I think a conversation with a life insurance adviser will be like? If the answer is yes, then it's imperative that you in particular listen to this interview because Aaron is not at all what comes to mind.  His is a great story, you will be educated and inspired by: The surprising thing Aaron would like you to know about him Why I interviewed someone in life insurance and why this interview isn’t really about life insurance That said, Aaron does give us a brief understanding of what life insurance is The misconceptions about life insurance and why there is a sentiment that you can’t trust life insurance companies On to the real reason I wanted to chat to Aaron - what led him to resign from a secure, stable and full time employment that he enjoyed The lessons Aaron learned from backing himself The reason he didn’t burn the bridge with his prior employer The early stages of commencing his own business while working from home with three small children Aaron explains how he managed his “3 Shoulds” How Aaron got his first clients and what the high-five milestones were How he made the decision to sell his multi-million dollar business- a surprise turn of events Precisely why he decided to sell and how it worked in accordance with his strengths How Aaron managed the clients and employees in the sale How Aaron and his wife manage family commitments with work The power of time blocking Who’s inspiring Aaron at the moment! Have you ever been to a conference or watched a YouTube video of someone drawing on a whiteboard what the person is saying in a careful, curated way that tells the story in images? The organisation, The RSA, does a great job with their RSA Animates series. These artists are known as Graphic Recorders or Visual Practitioners. I've long loved these videos because I'm a visual learner and find that I remember things better when I can see them - as we'll discover in today's interview, it's how I remember names. I first saw the work of Jessamy Gee from Think in Colour, when I volunteered for TEDxMelbourne, a few years ago. I was really inspired by what flow looked like in action. Jessamy was in her element; it was a beautiful thing to witness. Our very own Admin Asset, Ness Phillips, recommended Jessamy as a guest and instantly I knew she'd make a great storyteller. She has wowed me with her insights into memory retention, education, social responsibility and how images can add incredible impact to someone speaking. In today's interview, you will be educated and inspired by: Why Jessamy is passionate about communication How to be a professional listener who draws Why Jessamy needed to pursue Purpose in her work The journey of Jessamy's path to becoming a Graphic Recorder And, why her worst boss provided the hardest learning curve but the best one How to apply graphic recording for better memory retention What Jessamy did to start her own business Why it took a four year old to validate her as an artist What graphic recording is and when it's best used and when it's not appropriate How she overcame the fear of drawing in front of a room full of people Why intention determines the outcome of a graphic recording well before the pen is picked up How to be a graphic recorder and what the Six Golden Eggs of Graphic Recording are What the process and product outcomes of using a graphic recorder are and how to get the best results from your chosen artist The resources you need to become a graphic recorder and why, if you live in Perth, you need to pay attention What Jessamy learned about social responsibility and how its something we all need to apply And soooo much more! It is evident by the joyful, enthusiastic way in which today's guest, Made to Create founder, Glenda Ninnis speaks that she loves what she does. It hasn't always been the case. Discover your WHY Everyone has a WHY. When we know our WHY, we become more confident in choosing the kind of jobs, careers, or projects that are likely to inspire us and make us feel fulfilled. It is like having a compass that helps us make better decisions about what we do and how we would do it.  ‘The WHY is not about making money – that’s a result. The WHY is a purpose, cause or belief. Your WHY is the very reason you exist.’ ~ Simon Sinek The pilot program is to test drive the Made to Inspire WHY Discovery workbook, based on the WHY Discovery online course developed by Simon Sinek. The purpose of this workbook is to help you discover your WHY and construct a WHY statement. The goal is to give you a powerful insight to your contribution and impact you are designed to have on people. What an incredible opportunity!!! Julie-Anne Black, or Jewells as she's affectionately known, is a special kind of someone. She has a radiance you're drawn to. As we found when chatting to the lovely Megan Davis, from Spendlove and Lamb, social media can be an exhausting and yet exciting arena for marketing your business. Public relations and cross-media marketing is the next big beast that can be your greatest friend if you take the time to learn the rules of the game, and actually play it. Kebrasca King, from King Creative Media is "hugely passionate about creating cool sh*t" and loves nothing more that to help people whether it is youth, people in business, or his clients. He gets a kick out of seeing a brand and business grow through their marketing, messaging and ambassadorships.  Kebrasca is a down-to-earth and charismatic man who, along with wife Amber, started his business from nothing, right as the Global Financial Crisis was changing the shape of business as we know it. His is an inspiring story of how to partner in life and in business and make a difference to the way the world views you and your business. If there was to be a tagline for Kylie, it would be that she does death differently. And appropriately, it is exactly the way we want our lives to be remembered and celebrated. It doesn't occur to us to speak publicly about what happens to us when we die, but I think it's essential. In a humble and respectfully funny way, Kylie Mouat, from Kazique Creative Funeral Events, helps us to understand the industry of death and funerals and explains why we need to be real and hands-on in the process of planning either our loved ones' or our own final life celebration. Kylie helps us to learn: The two things we're guaranteed in life How the death of her mother inspired the creation of her funeral services business What elements of Kylie's career and experience have lead to perfect production and event facilitation Why talking about death is necessary to live a full life Why a funeral is really a Life Celebration and a wake is an After Party What is involved with planning your own funeral and why you must be involved before you no longer can What the funeral process is and what your rights are as a grieving family member What the LGBTQ community need to know about their rights for the planning of their significant others funeral How to capture your memories in a portfolio of your life to support the celebration that is who you are Find Kazique: Kazique's website and on Facebook A bonus that we didn't discuss but is well worth watching is the SBS Insight episode called Grand Finale, on which Kylie was a participant. It's where I got the idea to be shot up as fireworks when I die. We'd love to hear how you'd like to do death differently. If you've got questions for Kylie or I post a comment below or hit us up on Facebook. I love food. My husband says my version of cooking is 'concoction cooking' because I do not seem to have the ability to follow a recipe without throwing my own spin on things. Fortunately this is actually a good thing as far as it goes to the Bubble Muffin Kids Cooking Club and its founder, Kevin Kapusi Starow. In this fascinating interview, we explore cooking, food science and his determination to eliminate childhood obesity through fun, interactive and playful cooking classes for children. In this fun and funny conversation we learn and be inspired by: Kevin's background in cooking and food education What growing up on a farm taught him about respecting food in its natural form Kevin's biggest mistake in business The really creative things you can do with agar agar and beetroot, or how to make meringue without egg. Tomas Jajesnica is one chilled out guy. Not much fazes the man who carries a giant smile. Tomas is more commonly recognised as MrMeditate himself. Mr Meditate is an in-person facilitated meditation program for corporations to help to create and maintain positive workplace cultures - fostering greater productivity, enhanced individual performance, and ultimately producing considerable growth in profit for business. I find social media to be a beast, it's an unruly, self-defining, ever-changing technological creature. There are no rules. No boundaries. It's a place to play. It never forgets. But always forgives eventually. There are so many platforms, so many ways to reach people and by the same token an overwhelming amount of dizzying noise that I find it hard to find authenticity. According to my delightfully supportive husband, I dance like a chicken. Thanks to Alex Gray, a Dancerpreneur, that's now a compliment. Ha! So there, Sanni. :P All joking aside, Alex is an insightful young man that pushes himself to the boundaries of his mind and body on a daily basis. He challenges what he thinks, how he thinks and where he obtains information for his inner mentor in the same way he moves his body to the extremes of its limit. From this interview you will learn and be inspired by: What it means to Alex to be a dancer and where he learned how to channel his pent up extra energy as a child How uploading his dance to YouTube helped him build resiliency to criticism How a negative, critical answer to a question Alex posed to a dance teacher transformed Alex's personality in his dance His answer to the question: how do I become a better version of myself? Alex explains what a dance battle is and why it's not just about the moves or the competition How Alex got involved in Triple 8 Funk dance company in Melbourne as a freestyle dance director Alex talks about Open Floor Freestyle (OFF) Sessions and the benefit of dance in a mirror-less environment Alex tells us about being a Dancerpreneur and the danger of the narrow view of titles in engaging with people What is educating and inspiring Alex's inner mentor at the moment Links to stuff we discuss: Alex Gray on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook Triple 8 Funk Dance Company Open Floor Freestyle (OFF) Sessions Made to Create dance classes: Next class is on October 23rd - get your tickets here I hope you've been inspired to let yourself loose, and as it's said: 'Dance like no ones watching.' Welcome to the very first episode for the Your Third Voice Podcast. Today we meet with Helen Palmer is the founder and Principal Change Agent from Questo, a change management specialist service that architects and designs learning and change solutions for growing businesses. Helen serves her clients on their quests of change as they navigate a new future in their individual or organisational work-scapes. I've known Helen for a number of years, she is both a friend and unofficial mentor to me on my own small business growth and development journey. We have a lot of common interests, specifically on the topic of change and how people adapt (or don't) to changes that go on in their lives. It was from conversations about change with Helen that I first learned how to incorporate tools and techniques into my services with Your Third Hand Services, specifically my results coaching service. I'm excited to now be studying Change Readiness to become an accredited Change Fitness Coach, enabling many of my clients to prepare for change and make life long improvements to their lives. In today's interview you will learn and be inspired by: Who Helen is, as she describes herself The way in which Helen helps people learn The employee mindset versus the self-employed mindset, and the journey she took me on to establish the latter The Questo Self-Unlimited™ Program, including the four scenarios of the adventure and the seven key responsibilities of the Self-Unlimited™ reality The importance of being held accountable to your strategies How a business or large organisation can participate in the Self-Unlimited™ Program with their employees How employees can incorporate their Self-Unlimited™ reality into their career And, what is educating and inspiring Helen at the moment - it's one straight out of left field!
