Krissy and I share some powerful experiences we’ve had and how they’ve shaped the way we see and show up in the world. We hope you enjoy every minute of our intense discussion about life, but if you only take one insight from this episode, let it be this: “Live the dash.” (You’ll have to tune in to find out what that means!) Thanks for listening. ~Raef and Krissy
We are not as important to our business as we think we are. In fact, in many cases, we might be in the way... In this episode, I discuss the pros and cons of the four-day workweek and the logistics for successfully rolling that out. I also discuss the implications for owners, employees, and clients. I believe it's possible to transition to a four-day workweek and still be productive and thrive in your business. Listen to learn what you may be wasting time on and to find out how to move to a four-day workweek effectively. Thanks for listening! Listen to the conversation between Krissy Couch and Raef Granger, two local business owners in the NH Seacoast talking about life, mindset, practice, and more. Krissy shares why it’s important to “rest to be at your best,” and the discussion continues into the idea of remembering to give to yourself first, even when this approach often feels like it goes against what society tells us we should be doing. I hope you enjoy this somewhat unstructured conversation about being purposeful with the time we have.
In this episode, we explore how to know when it’s time to pivot in your business. The extremely simplified answer is this: you know by searching your heart and soul and listening to that quiet voice deep down that already knows. We live for such a short time on this planet; our time is so precious, and I have this firm belief that we don’t want to spend that time doing things that aren’t ultimately making us happy. So, as you listen, I invite you to think about the answer to this question: What do you really want to be doing with your life? Maybe you’ve lost sight of what you want somewhere along the way. But the fact is, you can’t get to where you want to go unless you know where you’re going. If you’re considering a pivot in your business or life, I hope this episode inspires you to uncover or rediscover your dreams. In this episode, I explore the general writing process--whether it be for class, your profession, or something else--and share my specific experience with writing throughout my career. Many people don't account for the fact that much of the writing process is actually thinking. Before you even put pen to paper or your fingers on the keyboard, there are several steps that many people don't consider or may not be aware of when they begin. In fact, in my experience, there are approximately seven steps to the writing process, all of which must be completed to produce a complete and well-written document. Listen to find out what steps are involved in acheiving the best results. I hope you find this episode informative and inspiring as you embark on your next writing assignment!
Welcome to Episode 24: Work Funk and the Spring Doldrums! In this episode, I address a common feeling I've observed among business owners and students in the early spring months here in New England. I describe it as a sense of "funk" or malaise brought about by the often gray, wet weather. To combat this feeling, I offer five simple but effective tips to help you shift your ways of thinking and achieve higher levels of productivity. Join me as we uncover ways to navigate periods of low motivation and find renewed energy in our personal and professional lives. Thanks for listening! Visit www.raefgranger.com for more tips on how to become the master of your business and life.
In this episode, I talk about a grab bag of different concepts, with the idea of success being the unifying thread. Specifically, I explore the idea that success is a choice, not just something that happens to certain "chosen" people. I touch on the topic of how your mindset drives your vision of success as an entrepreneur and using different strategies (such as meditation) to control how your incoming thoughts and emotions affect your manifestation of success. Join me as we consider what success means to each of us individually and how we choose to pursue it in our personal and professional lives. As always, thanks for listening!
For this episode, we’re introducing a new concept for law school students. If you’ve been listening for a while now, you may know that I have begun teaching at UNH Franklin School of Law, both as an adjunct professor for professional responsibility, the ethics course for law students, and also in the Academic Success department. While my podcasts will continue to be aimed toward business professionals, I am also pleased to add another resource specifically for law school students. Please share with anyone you think might find this valuable. Otherwise, stay tuned for the next episode, where the focus will be back on the business owner!
In this episode of Your Work Block, we dive into how to make your time work best for you. Some call this the practice of "time management," but I don't really like thinking about it that way. We cover the basics of time blocking, and how to be as accurate as possible with your time blocks by getting "real" with your time, adding "buffer" time, and more. Listen to find out how to effectively structure your day to master your to-do list in the time you have available.
In this episode, we're talking about taking time--time to work on your business or time to not work at all. At the beginning of the year, we're often thinking about what's next and how to best utilize our time in the new year. Whether we like it or not, time is a finite resource. And we all have the same amount of time each day. This can be encouraging and discouraging at the same time, especially when we think about people like Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey and what they've done with their time compared to what we've been able to do so far. Listen to hear my thoughts on how to focus our finite time to achieve the things we want, while still making room for non-productive things that we just enjoy doing. Be sure to listen to the end, where I announce an in-person workshop I'm holding later this month. It would be a great way to "clear the deck" to achieve what you really want to achieve in 2024. I’ll also share what I do during this time of year and how it helps me get ready for the new year. If you’re wondering how to handle the holiday slowdown this year, don’t miss this episode!
In this episode, I discuss the challenges of creating profitable pricing for your service packages. I am joined by a few fellow entrepreneurs who sell services and understand the complexities of pricing their services for profitability while also considering what the market will bear. We talk about setting your “effective rate” — the price that gets you excited about showing up to do what you do best — and adjusting that as needed to ensure you’re working with your ideal client and enjoying the work. Enjoy!
In this episode, we'll cover the most common estate plans, which include wills, trusts (we'll cover two types), medical power of attorneys, and financial power of attorneys -- as they relate to business owners. If you own a business and are wondering what type of estate plans make sense for you and your business, this episode is for you!
In this episode, we dive into the main types of business entities, such as an LLC or a Sole Proprietorship, how they differ, why someone might choose one type over another, how this all relates to taxes and more. I’ll also be publishing a blog post on this topic coming soon. So stay tuned for that, and check out my blog!
Listen to Raef and colleague Sally Cobb discuss trademark and copyright questions that business owners often ask. Join us as we dive deep into this subject! We explore the different reasons why things like trademarks, copyrights, and patents might be a good idea for your business, vs. when it might not be necessary. We cover some really great stuff in this episode, so be sure to give it a listen!
Sometimes, as business owners, we may feel like we're doing all the things we need to do to succeed, but we're so drained or burned out from running the business that we don't have any energy left to do what needs to be done to keep moving it forward. In this episode, I share 5 tips to gain energy and inspiration to fuel your creative side -- your entrepreneurial side -- so you can keep growing your business in new ways. Enjoy!
In this episode, I discuss ways to handle issues with cash flow and contemplate whether "perseverance" is always the answer. Listen to hear my thoughts on these topics, including my Charles Ingalls analogy regarding doing what needs to be done to keep the lights on. Enjoy!
