his week on Anime Pulse we got Christmas gifts, cursed touching, and the worst of 2024. Up first Joseph has been digging the new Azur Lane event, and Andrew has flown back to Scotland. Then in the industry news, ha ha, got ya! Because next comes the Christmas gift exchange! What will our two cohosts possibly unearth!? THEN we get to the new, with just a singular topic about Crunchyroll once again being utter shit. And finally the reviews see us out with Joseph curing his deathy curse and immediately playing super smash with his hot blond maid, meanwhile Andrew begins to see spirals in everything as his life spirals out of control.
This week on Anime Pulse we got vtuber awards, anime dragging its feet, and dancing moments. Up first IRL news has Joseph going back to the gym, and Andrew attended a big fighting game event with some of the top player in the world. Then in the industry news the vtuber awards just wrapped up and announced the winner, and Japanese artists on X are up in arms over blackface being applied to Dandadan. Lastly in the reviews Joseph wades through a really lackluster series of events in a fantasy anime to get to the good stuff, and Andrew brews up a barrel of whisky that will be aged for at least 15 years.
We want everyone to reach under your seats and pull out the old shoe box you find there. Within that box, there should be an old bit of newspaper. Unwrap that and you will find at least two popsicle sticks. Take those and carefully taste the bit of discoloration where the previous treat ended. Give those a quick taste and close your eyes. Congratulations. You are now a weirdo. Tim has Welcome to Japan, Elf-san or Welcome to Japan Ms Elf if you’re looking for the light novel series this is based on. Kazuhiro is a guy who leaves work at quitting time which means he’s the odd one. He … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 526: Elf Daughter"
This week on VG Pulse, happy holidays to all!! After the news, Millennium gives his review of Definitely Not Fried Chicken, and we close out with talk of food and anime!! All this and more up next on VGP 411!!!! -Aki Music Intro – Still Alive guitar cover by FamilyJules Outro – Want You Gone guitar cover by FamilyJules Links Palworld changes summoning mechanics Fortnite to pay out settlement Antitrust … Continue reading "VG Pulse 411: Definitely Not Suspicious"
This week on Anime Pulse we got goblin reincarnation, deer meat, and sweet sweet revenge. Up first Joseph briefly mentions his IRL boss has gifted him some deer meet to cook up and consume, and Andrew asks us what the best moments of payback are in anime for this week's community question. Then in the industry news we get confirmation that VISA Japan is against allowing you to buy anything lewd, and a job listing is posted asking for men to talk to Japanese girls online. And finally in the reviews Joseph is killed by a yandere, reincarnates into a goblin, and later evolves into an ogre. Meanwhile Andrew retires from being a killer yakuza member to find great deals at the super market, cook melas for his wife, and wear pink aprons.
Do you remember that phase of the internet where everything was about pirates? Like everyone would mention when it’s talk like a pirate day and things like that. We go a little further back before all that with Cutthroat Island(1995). A movie you’ll probably see a whole lot on lists of biggest box office bombs. It and Show Girls killed the studio that made it. Geena Davis is the daughter of a pirate captain. Her dad is one of three pirates that has a map to a massive buried treasure. Her uncle pirate, Frank Langella, kills her dad in his quest for the treasure. So it’s something of a race … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 232: French Cutthroat"
This week on Anime Pulse we got more bad tourists, fall festival giveaway winners, and golden apples of youth. Up first Joseph shelved BioShock after a bug cost him some time, and Andrew was down with the sickness. Then in the industry news a rather young idol is hoping Santa will visit her this year, and some big names in the vtubing community are graduating. Finally in the reviews Joseph gets an extension on his life thanks to all those apples he eats, and Andrew is engaged to a space oni against his will.
It might be November and that means spooky season is technically over. That doesn’t mean it’s gone from our minds. As they used to say, off the charts but not off our hearts. So we almost sort of have a related theme that keeps it going. So break out your Spirit Halloween costumes of Dismissive Candy Factory Owner or Foreign Blood Drinking Guy and join us. Tim has Bones. And not just those that exist under his skin or in his junk drawer. It’s set in a world where a lot of people have superpowers. Ji has a superpower that doesn’t seem to be that useful. He can regenerate though … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 525: XXX Boner"
This week on Anime Pulse we got another round of the new Would or Wouldn't section, catching your meals in a dungeon, and Thanksgiving pies. Up first Joseph is excited for his three day work week and is still fighting splicers, meanwhile Andrew knows we're out of October be he wants to know about the creepiest characters in anime. Then in the industry news, we have none! But that's ok, because the vtubers are here to help pass the time. And finally in the reviews Joseph goes dungeon delving to find his harpy dragon sister, and Andrew expands his domain all over the place to fight the color purple.
Hey there, pardner. Us speakin’ in an a-ffected drawl must mean we gots a Western movie. It also a-happens to be an adaptation of a book. A bone-a-fide lit-er-a-chur turned talkie. That brings us to Appaloosa[2008]. Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen are wandering gunmen for hire and have been partners for awhile. They come into Appaloosa which is in need of a sheriff. This is on account of Jeremy Irons being a powerful rancher having killed the last one. Things get a little complicated when a farmhand offers to testify to the murder. Tim has Raw Deal(1986). An Arnold Schwarzenegger film where he plays a disgraced FBI agent. He gets … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 231: Loose Apples"

This week on Anime Pulse we got a return to reviews, jump scares, and morally grey characters. Up first Joseph wrapped up Arcade Paradise and delves into BioShock Remastered, meanwhile Andrew wants to know about the characters we know are bad but still end up rooting for in the end. Then in the industry news a dumb idiot American thought it would be a good idea to vandalize a hugely popular shrine in Japan, and an equally dumb American mother gets Assassination Classroom banned at a school district. Finally in the reviews Joseph goes solo to tackle dungeons, and Andrew, a leader of an evil army, falls in love with a magical girl.
What manga review show has two thumbs and two manga? Probably a lot of them actually but we’ll fit that bill for today. Though you know what we don’t fit? Those darn skinny jeans we keep getting sent to review from Aliexpress. Who in the hell thinks we want those and need to review them? Sure they make our package look fantastic but there’s more to life than a stunningly wrapped tackle. Tim has Jinrui-shoku. It’s sometime in the distant now and there are things called “mummily”s This is apparently a thing were family members die, become desiccated corpses, then wander around for a bit. This happens to Hayato when … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 524: Burn it at Borders"
This week on Anime Pulse we got our last previews show of the season, IRL trouble for a vtubing imp, and Andrew's trip to China. Up first Joseph wrapped up his time with Moonlighter, and Andrew almost forgets to post a topic of the week. Then in the industry news, a vtuber by the name of Camila almost found herself in the plot of Misery, and the vatican released an anime mascot much to the delight of hentai artists. And finally in our last Fall 2024 previews show Joseph and Andrew work together to talk about a gender swapping martial artist, a boy who loses his weiner while a girl gets abducted by aliens, and the latest season of Who is Rem?
Take a look, there is no book. Because this isn’t the Reading Rainbow. This is Popcorn Pulse and we do movies. So how about a movie that was written by the same guy who did LA Confidential? You might remember it as the movie which got a lot of buzz back in the nineties. Going so far as to get Oscar noms. You can imagine a writer might try to get lightning to strike twice after that. Because everybody wants both Hollywood money and acclaim. We bring you Street Kings[2008]. It stars Keanu as a cop who drinks and is depressed. He had a falling out with his partner, played … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 230: 44 Kings"
Spooky season is upon us. Or at least it was at the time of recording. We may or may not have picked manga that corresponds with the time of year of pumpkins and costumes. Because we have the planning abilities of a local city council that keeps getting voted out every six months. Which might be justified because we keep trying to allocate the budget to building a statue to Shinzo Abe with a “Please have Sex” plaque. Tim has Fear: Reiwa Kaidan which is inline with Halloween season. It’s a set of short stories. Which means it doesn’t have a lot of room to breathe. This also means that … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 523: Inu Kai"
This week on Anime Pulse we got more previews, small houses, and federal offenses. Up first Joseph delivers some up and down news about house hunting, and Andrew is excited by the return of a few big vtubers. Then in the industry news, a very real crime was being committed by CrunchyRoll for over 5 years. And finally one last round of previews before Andrew goes on a little vacation, with Joseph saving his killer bunny people from dating goddesses and Andrew attends a mixer full of spirals that led to blue boxes.
It’s that time of year again where the promised sequels, just like the executives on top of their favorite hookers, are coming. We have at least one of those cock teases which do not lead to sex in the champagne room. That’s right, Dune: Part 2[2024]. So the first part seemed kind of promising. Baron Harkonen’s plan had succeeded in driving out the Atredies and retaking Arrakis. We weren’t threatened with a trilogy so everything has to wrap up in this one. That’s a lot of reliance on the acting ability of the failed Wonka player. There’s a lot to pick apart and we do our darnedest to stay on … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 229: Arrakis Fracas"
This week on Anime Pulse we got the next round of previews, house hunting, and breaking free from prison. Up first Joseph is excited to say he might have found the house he can buy, and Andrew stocked up on horror games for the spooky month. Then in the industry news, there's just one topic to talk about, and that's the acquisition of Toho. And finally the previews wrap things up as Joseph talks his way out of a dragon life in 2099, and Andrew has to pronounce his title carefully or else a mushroom dog will bring back his dead wife as an elementary student.
What do you do with a drunken sailor? You could fine him and send him off with his purse a little lighter. Or, hear me out, you could give him a podcast wherein he talks about manga. Now, we may not be sailors but we have been on a boat and been intoxicated. So we should qualify as be brought a couple of manga. Tim has Look-Alike Daughter. Gil So-Myeong is a model student and lives with her mother. She used to have a dad but he was gone a long time ago. She also used to have a brother who really seems to get on mom’s nerves. What with … Continue reading "Manga Pulse522: Smoking Daughter"

I started listening to this when Ichigo was the host. Its changed a lot but I still listen.
