with the new year coming [ oop this is late so it's actually here now ], I wanted to reflect upon my goals from year 2019, and how I've progressed, succeeded, or failed to meet them. failure, however, is still progress in of itself, being that I learned a lot and grew a lot. by setting goals, its wonderful to see how you've grown and how your mindset has changed, sometimes that change is for the better or for the worse, but you take something away from it. I hope you take something away from this reflection. salam <3
comparing seems to be an act of human nature. in it, envy and jealousy are rooted and the only thing one can reap from that is unhappiness. it’s something so many of us struggle with, especially in this society where social media has become integral to popular culture. all we see is what other people share and from that we desire and envy them for having what we don’t. this podcast talks about the impact of social media and its contribution to this mindset and act, along with self-love and how we need to love ourselves and be sufficient and content with what we have.
this is the documentary i watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wthTmQHmuZ0. it premiered june 14, 2019, but it absolutely is still relevant, any day, any time with the reality of the state our planet is in. if you can, watch it. i learned a lot from it, and most importantly, brought the reality to me. often enough, when you hear people saying the planet is dying and we need to change now, you dismiss it or briefly contemplate it and then move on. there’s no real connection because our brains haven’t processed the reality. we haven’t perceived it to be true. maybe because we need confirmation. and visual confirmation is normally the most accepted by people. this video was that first step for me and for many others as well. I’ve never gotten emotional about the state of the planet itself until seeing just a partial reality of that in this documentary.
i recently opened up about failure and what I’ve learned about it and what I’m still learning. originally, I wasn’t going to post this because the example of failure in my situation is minor compared to what a lot of people are struggling with, but after playing it back, I realized even though its minor it can be the case for others and it’s just one minuscule aspect of failure in my life. i took away a lot from this myself because this recording served as a self-reflection. I hope that it helps you guys in some way as well. let me know about your experiences with failure, what role they’ve played in your life, and what you’ve learned from them!
