Description

Welcome to gwot.rocks, a podcast about God, the World, and Other Things! We're all about advancing the peace of Christ in the midst of an agitated world. In a time where hate, tension, and stress seem to be at an all time high in our culture. Personal transformation the peace Jesus Christ brings can ultimately result in the restoration our decaying cities.THE CITY is the core of our human existence. As our key cities go, so goes our nation. In the first century A.D., synagogues were central to Jewish worship, teaching, and community life. In Luke 4, after His baptism and temptation, Jesus begins His public ministry by attending a synagogue on the Sabbath. Following custom, He stands to read and is handed the scroll of Isaiah. The passage He reads proclaims that the "Spirit of the Lord" is upon the speaker, anointing Him to preach good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind, and freedom for the oppressed. This passage relates to the Jewish “Year of Jubilee” (Leviticus 25), a period every 50 years when debts were forgiven, slaves freed, and land returned, symbolizing liberation and restoration. The Isaiah passage is a messianic prophecy about God's servant bringing spiritual and social renewal. It was expected that the visiting Rabbi would continue reading from the place marked in the scroll. The marker was at the 61st out of 66 chapters…“The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all who mourn, to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the Lord to glorify him. They will rebuild the ancient ruins; they will restore the former devastations; they will renew the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” (Luke 4:1-4, CSB) After reading the passage, Jesus sits down, which in Jewish custom indicated He was about to teach. He then makes the profound statement, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21).

On that first day of His public ministry, Jesus proclaims that He is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy - that He is the Messiah who has come to bring the spiritual and social liberation promised in the passage. This is a bold and revolutionary claim, especially in His hometown. As the account unfolds, the people’s reaction turns from amazement to rage, leading them to attempt to throw Jesus off a cliff. However, Jesus miraculously walks through the crowd unharmed and leaves Nazareth. This event is significant as it marks the beginning of Jesus' public ministry and sets the tone for His mission: to bring spiritual, physical, and social liberation. Jesus’ reading and declaration align His mission with the messianic prophecy, emphasizing he is not just a teacher or prophet but is the long-awaited Messiah who inaugurates God's kingdom of the ultimate spiritual Jubilee - spiritual liberation and the arrival of God's kingdom, bringing freedom, healing, and renewal to all people. The Jubilee of Jesus Christ for individuals AND society as a whole is available to all today! As you can tell from the title and the podcast genesis, the topics covered in the future will be an eclectic and engaging look at stories and topics that inspire you and advance the peace of Christ in your life. and in the lives around you!

What a day! Listen to the podcast intro for the full story. I revisit our first episode from August 2019 to show how this podcast began and how God has kept me steadfast despite cultural shifts. My original assessments about major cities and their ongoing turmoil still hold true. I changed the byline from "equilibrium" to "peace" to clearly reflect the spiritual goal of equipping you to stand firm in a chaotic world. I’m also launching "Coffee Fueled Wisdom," a new channel to foster community online and through local gatherings, starting in Nashville and potentially expanding globally if God wills it.📱 Connect with Us:📱 Connect with Us:💻 Website: gwot.rocks home page 📺 YouTube: "Other Things with... Could anyone? 🤔Join me on a journey back to the 1860s...What You’ll Hear 🎧:🏜️ Twain’s escape to Virginia City and the West’s false promise of peace.⚔️ The Civil War’s limits and the West’s own dangers—Indigenous tensions, lawless towns.🌍 How even Twain’s world travels couldn’t satisfy the soul’s longing.😔 Today’s mayhem and our urge to run from it.✝️ The only true escape: heaven’s promise through Christ.✝️ Key verses:Revelation 21:4, Philippians 3:14🙏Why Listen? 💬 This episode isn’t just history—it’s personal. ✨ In this episode, we look at the lives of four men—Chuck Swindoll Jr., Frank Schaeffer, Joshua Harris, and Bart Campolo—sons of prominent Christian leaders who each walked away from the faith of their fathers. Paired with the biblical example of Demas, their stories highlight a crucial truth: God has no grandchildren. Salvation requires personal conviction and new birth in Christ.📖 We’ll unpack key Scriptures (John 3:7, Hebrews 6:4-6, Romans 10:9-10, 2 Peter 1:10, and more) that remind us to anchor our faith not in culture, heritage, or reputation, but in Jesus Himself.🔎 What you’ll discover in this episode:🚶‍♂️ The sobering journeys of four sons who left their fathers’ faith.📜 The biblical warning in Demas’s slow drift from coworker to deserter.❤️ Why inherited faith is never enough—you must be born again.🔥 A challenge to “make your calling and election sure” today.💡 Whether you’ve grown up in the church or are wrestling with questions of your own, this episode invites you to look past fallible humans and fix your eyes on the infallible Savior.👉 Don’t wait for tomorrow. Faith is personal. Today is still called today.🎧 Tune in, reflect deeply, and take the step to confirm your faith in Jesus Christ.📱 Connect with Us: 🌐 Website: gwot.rocks home page 📺 YouTube: "Other Things with... ✨ Episode Overview: Remember when this was supposed to be a trilogy? Well… surprise! Here’s the bonus track — the addendum. 📀 Sometimes the most important things aren’t the longest, but the stickiest. In this episode, we slow down to highlight five truths that cling to your heart, not to weigh you down, but to set you free. 💡Paul shows us that the Law is powerless to save, yet it exposes something deep in us — our bent toward self-rule. But in Christ, the cycle of sin is broken, and what once fueled rebellion now becomes the doorway to true satisfaction. 🙌🪞 Five Sticky Truths We Explore:The Law as Mirror – it reveals sin but can’t wash it away. The Engine of Sin – how “don’t” seems to stir up the very thing. The Conscience Paradox – guilt alone can’t make you good. The Idol of Self-Rule – our deepest rebellion is wanting to be our own king.Christ as Satisfaction – the only One who silences the accusations and sets us free.💭 Takeaway: These truths are not about adding pressure but lifting it. My prayer is that one of them will settle into your heart in a way that brings freedom, peace, and deeper joy in Christ. 🕊️📖 Scripture Anchor: Romans 8:3–4 (CSB)📱 Connect with Us:💻 Website: gwot.rocks home page 📺 YouTube: "Other Things with... 🎙️Have you ever tried to change someone by nagging, scolding, or pressuring them—only to find it makes things worse? In this second installment of the Idol King Podcast Trilogy, we explore a radically different approach: presence. Drawing from 1 Peter 3:1–2 (CSB), we see that transformation doesn’t come from relentless words or correction but from a quiet, Christlike witness.Through personal stories and biblical insight, we’ll reflect on how presence communicates care, compassion, and community in ways pressure never can. Whether it’s at home, in friendships, or even in unexpected places like bars, Christ calls us to embody His love where brokenness lives—without compromise and without judgment.🔑Key Themes:Why nagging and constant correction often backfireHow presence plants seeds of transformation where pressure failsJesus’ example of meeting people where they wereReal-life stories of quiet witness and compassionate presence📖Scripture Reading:1 Peter 3:1–2 (CSB)🚀Takeaway:Presence, not pressure, opens the door for the Spirit’s transforming work. 🎙️ Have you ever noticed how the moment someone says “don’t”—something in you wants to do it even more? Children feel it. Adults know it. And the Apostle Paul explains why in some of the most unsettling yet freeing words of Scripture. In this first part of the Idol King trilogy, we explore Paul’s radical insight that the law itself fuels sin—not because the law is bad, but because our hearts are bent toward self-rule.Paul shows us that beneath every sinful action lies a deeper desire: the longing to be king of our own lives. But there’s hope—what the law could never achieve, God accomplished in Christ. Jesus broke sin’s engine and offers us true satisfaction in the Spirit.📖Scripture Focus: Romans 8:3–4 (CSB)🔑Key Themes in This Episode:The paradox of the law: holy and good, yet fueling rebellion in our sinful nature. The law written on our hearts as both dignity and indictment. The idol of self-rule—the deep root of our resistance to God.A personal story of presence vs. nagging and how Spirit-filled witness can bring change.Christ’s victory: how Jesus fulfilled the law and broke sin’s destructive power.🎁Takeaway: Christ fulfills the law within us, breaks sin’s engine, and gives true satisfaction in the Spirit.👉 Don’t miss Part Two of the Idol King Podcast Trilogy, where we continue to uncover how Paul’s anthropology of sin and grace transforms our understanding of Christian freedom.📱 Connect with Us:💻 Website: gwot.rocks home page 📺 YouTube: "Other Things with... Biblical Consecration

Biblical Consecration

2025-08-2106:01

🎙Episode Overview: In a world that feels like it’s constantly on fast-forward—filled with political tension, cultural division, and economic uncertainty—our first instinct might be to withdraw, insulate, and hide. But Jesus never called His people to hide. He called us to shine. In this episode, we unpack the biblical concept of consecration: being fully set apart for God in a way that is healthy, joyful, and deeply human. From the Old Testament priests to Jesus’ prayer in John 17, to Paul’s call in Romans 12, consecration is less about retreating from the world and more about living for God in the middle of it.We’ll also look to the example of St. Francis of Assisi, who embraced an organic life of consecration. His service, simplicity, and joy remind us that mowing a yard, cooking a meal, or helping a neighbor can be just as holy as preaching a sermon.🧠What You’ll Learn in This EpisodeWhy biblical consecration is not withdrawal but engagement with the world. How Jesus redefined consecration for all of life. What St. Francis of Assisi teaches us about organic, everyday holiness. Why Romans 12 calls us to present our whole lives as worship. How living consecrated to God brings peace into an agitated world.📖Key Scripture ReferencesJohn 17:19 – “I sanctify Myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.”Romans 12:1 – “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true worship.”🧗‍♀️Challenge for the WeekDon’t wait for the chaos to calm down before living fully for Christ. Let your consecration be organic—woven into your work, your play, your serving, and your resting. Be a living picture of Christ’s peace in an unstable world.DONATE You can help support this podcast by clicking our secure PayPal account.
