Reverse
Hear the story of Billie Jean, Zeke, Myra, Josh, and Immanuel. They're moving to your neighborhood. How will you welcome them?
How do I prepare my body for the coming of Christ?
Let's start with the feet.
The river
Of my childhood,
That tumbled
Down a passage of rocks
And cut-work ferns,
Came here and there
To the swirl
And slowdown
Of a pool
And I say myself–
Oh, clearly–
As I knelt at one–
Then I saw myself
As if carried away,
As the river moved on.
Where have I gone?
Since then
I have looked and looked
For myself,
Not sure
Who I am, or where,
Or, more importantly, why.
It’s okay–
I have had a wonderful life.
Still, I ponder
Where that other is–
Where I landed,
What I thought, what I did,
What small or even maybe meaningful deeds
I might have accomplished
Somewhere
Among strangers,
Coming to them
As only a river can–
Touching every life it meets–
That endlessly kind, that enduring.

"If I wanted to have a happy garden, I must ally myself with my soil; study and help it to the utmost, untiringly. Always, the soil must come first."

What makes for community? How do we cultivate community for the common good?
In this minisode, the 2018 Summer interns of QC Family Tree reflect upon their experiences and y talk about what practices and framework we need in order to cultivate community.
You'll hear the voices of Langley Hoyt, Gabrielle Corti, Zariah Nolan, Greg Jarrell, and Helms Jarrell. We recorded this minisode halfway through the intern's 10 week long summer internship. The internship will wrap up with an epic Big Trip with the QCFT youth to Washington DC, July 29-August 4th. You can help to sponsor the Big Trip. Every $20 you give helps to get us 1 mile further down the 800 mile road. qcfamilytree.org/donate

Dawn Anthony, Greg Jarrell, and Helms Jarrell talk about and sing songs of abundance in this episode.
“Do you already know that your existence--who and how you are--is in and of itself a contribution to the people and place around you? Not after or because you do some particular thing, but simply the miracle of your life. And that the people around you, and the place(s), have contributions as well? Do you understand that your quality of life and your survival are tied to how authentic and generous the connections are between you and the people and place you live with and in?
Are you actively practicing generosity and vulnerability in order to make the connections between you and others clear, open, available, durable? Generosity here means giving of what you have without strings or expectations attached. Vulnerability means showing your needs.”
― Adrienne Maree Brown, Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds
In this episode, Angela Whitenhill and I talk about Self Care and Sabbath as Resistance.

Welcome to the neighborhood-
Today's episode is about A Narrative of Departure- The Kingdom of Interruption-
Neighborhood Economics is re-ordering, a way of life that shakes us out of our assumptions of extraction to show the world could be organized differently because God is among us. – (paraphrased) Walter Bruggemann
We wanna hear from you, tweet at us @hereforgoodpod, What do alternatives to the economy of extraction look like? Where have you seen them take shape? What makes for neighboring well?

Here are Helms' notes from the Brueggemann talks: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1svT0odmCOSOIxjLwKz6bgVrZrHM1zv7S
Inspired by Walter Brueggemann, this episode is all about the ragtag hopers... “Those who refuse, deny, or doubt the totalizing claims and who continue to keep imagining and attempting alternative modes of life, and who keep experimenting with the strange virtues of justice that take various forms of neighborliness.” (Brueggemann, God, Neighbor, Empire)
The Biblical response to the extraction economy of totalism is prophetic movement- non-credentialized poets with no pedigree who create imaginative space such that things could be different. They use Hymns and poems filled with playful imagery to shake us out of our assumptions of extraction to show the world could be organized differently because God is among us.
Prophetic imagination is aimed to subvert extractive ideology of Empire regime. It is no wonder that the authorities tried to silence these Biblical poets/prophets.
Today's special guest is @raisingimagination
Helms has written an article about awakening the imagination through the practice of Hallowed Placemaking. Read that article here.

Written by adrienne marie brown in the book, Emergent Strategy:
“How we are at the small scale is how we are at the large scale. The patterns of the universe repeat at scale. There is structural echo that suggests two things: one, that there are shapes and patterns fundamental to our universe, and two, that what we practice at a small scale can reverberate to the largest scale.”
