Fall Registration is underway at uonline.tamiu.edu. Those planning to attend TAMIU this Fall are invited to Dustdevil Week Monday, Aug. 3- Saturday, Aug. 8. TAMIU is now ranked No. 1 in the nation among the “Top 10 Colleges with the Highest Hispanic Enrollment” according to the U.S. News and World Report.
Dustdevil Week will be held in August. TAMIU was one of two Texas A&M University System institutions that made it into Money Magazine’s newly released list of “736 Schools that Provide the Best Value for Your Tuition Dollar.”

As most spring graduates celebrate this milestone and start their next adventures, three (TAMIU) Spring 2015 graduates and one Fall 2014 graduate are getting ready to continue their education at law school in the fall. TAMIU assistant professor of history, Dr. Aaron Olivas will spend two months as a summer research fellow at the Huntington Library in San Marino, Calif. The TAMIU mobile phone and tablet application, “TAMIU Mobile,” has been updated and redesigned to better fit TAMIU students' and visitors' needs.
An expansion of a highly successful TAMIU Literacy Enrichment Center program for elementary school students that strengthens reading and writing skills will happen thanks to a generous grant totaling $300,000 from the Trustees of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust. Over 100 local high school students who recently participated in the TAMIU ‘Reach Higher’ College Commitment Signing Day signed a commitment certificate promising to not only complete high school but to continue on to earn a higher education degree.
Candidates for graduation will participate in spring commencement at TAMIU Friday, May 22 in the Kinesiology and Convocation Building. Two TAMIU business student organizations were recognized for their exemplary contribution to the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business at a special reception Tuesday, May 12. The family of Irma M. and Daniel B. Hastings has generously donated a portion of their orchid collection to Texas A&M International University to honor the memory of their late grandparents, avid orchid collectors. The TAMIU Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services was the recipient of two awards at the 13th Annual Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Del Oro Awards held at San Antonio’s Oak Hills Country Club last week.
A six-week program dedicated to helping young readers and their families develop strong literacy skills will celebrate the young readers with a special graduation ceremony Saturday, May 9 from 6 - 7 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center Theatre, room 236. Church’s Chicken, one of the world’s leading chicken chains, is tapping the TAMIU A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business students for internship opportunities within the corporation. Out of a pool of 10 nominees, Dr. Michael Kidd, assistant professor of biology, was named the 2014-2015 University Honors Program Faculty Member of the Year.
The TAMIU Hispanic Heritage Concert Series presents the legendary Los Tres Reyes in concert Saturday, May 3 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The TAMIU College of Education will hold an information session regarding the new Master of Arts in Teaching. A total of 17 TAMIU Systems Engineering students will travel to Florida to compete in the 2015 NASA Robotic Mining Competition.
A new chapter in Texas higher education is being co-authored by Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and the Freer Independent School District (FISD) this Fall with the launch of an Early College High School (ECHS) for Freer High School students at TAMIU. More world-renowned musicians will be headed to TAMIU thanks to a $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Challenge America Grant. TAMIU A. R. The TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center IBC Speaker Series is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25 with Donna De Cesare, associate professor of journalism at The University of Texas at Austin. The National Cesar Chavez Blood Drive Challenge is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 - Thursday, March 26. Photos of individuals to be honored at the Celebration of Life will be accepted through Wednesday, April 1. The International Mariachi Workshop is scheduled for April 13 - 15.
TAMIU will observe Spring Break Monday-Friday, March 9-13. Discover TAMIU is set for Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Student enrollment at TAMIU is growing at a healthy pace, with 6884 students attending, a 14.6 % increase over last Spring.
A new art exhibit at TAMIU features artist Christina Coleman’s “A Spatial Continuum in Black” in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery. TAMIU professor and director of English-Spanish programs Dr. Manuel Broncano-Rodríguez was named a 2013-2014 Regents Professor. NASA astronaut Dr. Serena M. Auñón is the keynote speaker at the upcoming 2015 TAMIU Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Alliance scheduled Wednesday, March 4 – Saturday, March 7. The TAMIU Voice Studio Midterm Recital is Thursday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.
Newly published books written by four TAMIU faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences add another set of expert resources and scholarship to the fields of psychology, contemporary literature and public administration. TAMIU students will be able to participate in the first ever Consent Week, Monday, Feb. 9 – Friday, Feb. 13.

The TAMIU 2014 President’s Report is now available online, offering readers a fully digital experience on their computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Their work promoting healthy lifestyles in three area communities led to TAMIU College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing students securing the top prize at the recent TAMIU Service Learning Expo 2014.
