Eco-Warrior 2.0

Eco-Warrior 2.0

2022-01-1103:17

The environmentalists and eco-warriors of old used to arrive clutching home-made placards, herbal cigarettes and chains with which to affix themselves to site gates and construction and demolition equipment. The eco-warriors of today come armed with something far more formidable - Science.
A National Disgrace

A National Disgrace

The failure to conclude the Didcot investigation in what will soon be six years speaks to an uncomfortable yet undeniable classism that permeates UK society to this very day.   The intransigence of the HSE, the police, of MPs and others in authority ultimately proves that those that go to work in suits and ties view those that work in hard hats and site boots as expendable.   As little more than cannon fodder.
On this episode, I am joined by Rich Woods from Band of Builders, a charitable organisation that is now turning its attention to combatting the scourge of mental health issues that are impacting the UK construction industry. Rich’s contribution was insightful and thought-provoking.   And his message and the message behind the Band of Builders’ Big Brew initiative needs to be heard and - more importantly - shared.
Following the news that the UK government has earmarked £650 billion to improve the nation's infrastructure, creating some 425,000 jobs per year in the process, we speak to Builders' Conference CEO Neil Edwards about the implications and likely outcomes.
In today's show: Engineers call for the demolition of the fire-ravaged Grenfell Tower; Travis Perkins raises concerns (and prices) over materials shortages; and a demolition contractor is required for a big project in Chester.   We will also ask why it takes four times longer to investigate a power plant collapse in the UK than it odes in the US. All that and more, in The Break Fast Show.

No Agenda #1

We're trying something new.   On Saturday, I will be broadcasting a new show called No Agenda which - as the name implies - is a show with no script, no plan, and NO AGENDA. As a result, the conversation takes in trips to Japan, electric and hydrogen equipment, massive attachment jaws, and why a giraffe is so poorly designed. This episode was originally broadcast as a Facebook LiveStream that you can see here.
In today’s show:  Father killed and son critically injured in site incident; Yanmar rolls VT to introduce three new mini excavators; there’s demolition work to be had in Oldham; AR Demolition is recruiting excavator operators; and Aggrecycle is letting the train take the strain. In today’s show: A lift incident in Liverpool leaves two workers seriously injured; a community centre in St Albans requires the attention of a demolition contractor; the roll-out of Doosan’s new wheel loaders gathers pace; and we look back at a forward-looking show in which we posed the question: Who will be the Tesla of the construction equipment world? All that and more in The Break Fast Show.
The construction equipment industry is a mature market in which changes and improvements are largely incremental variations on a proven theme. The same was true of the automotive sector until Elon Musk and Tesla rode the crest of the electric vehicle revolution and turned the car market onto its head. So where is the construction equipment’s Tesla? Who will be our Elon Musk To discuss this, myself and my co-host Peter Haddock of the Content with Media podcast are joined by two industry renowned thought leaders: Carl Gustaf Göransson, and Alan Berger.
In todays show: A trans-Atlantic co-operation comes to the field of explosive demolition; Volvo unveils its new hydrogen fuel cell test lab; and CASE Care comes to the UK. Oh, and guess who has been named as the world’s Number One demolition podcast? All that and more in The Break Fast Show.

All that and more, in The Break Fast Show.
