“The Professor” Pritch Pritchard breaks down all the benefits of delegation, a true sign of leadership. For this podcast, we define Delegation as: “Dividing up responsibilities in order to be most efficient in the chain of command. Giving control, authority and responsibility to another person as an opportunity to provide value.” Delegating, when done correctly, is a whole lot more than just telling people what to do. A quite example of leadership. 04:10 Saves time 05:21 Reduce burnout 06:29 Increase value and credibility 07:48 More/better executive experience 08:38 Benefits For employees 10:45 Self-esteem for the team 11:20 Think like an owner, not “just” an employee 12:01 Job enhancement and enjoyment (yes, that’s important!) 14:02 Developing leadership skills in your organization 14:30 Overall effectiveness 14:37 How to delegate effectively 15:08 Stop saying “easier to do it myself” 15:49 “We’ve always done it that way” red flag 17:00 Delegate by strengths and weaknesses of team members 17:23 Delegate in chunks 18:10 Share the big picture 19:22 Define responsibilities 19:34 Provide authority when you delegate 20:28 Make it possible for team members to ask for help 21:46 Don’t micromanage, no one appreciates it We also reference (a few times) The Leadership Challenge: How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations by Kouzes and Posner. “The Professor” Pritch Pritchard, APR has found a new (and what we think is much better) way to explain the concept and execution of Strategy for students and professionals. On this episode, we discuss a better explanation of Strategy and Strategic Execution based on a new definition by Andrew Bellay, who runs https://straty.com/ and holds (among other degrees) a Masters of Science in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University. We discuss, dissect and elaborate on this definition: Strategy is the process of creating a well-aligned set of activities with the aim of occupying a valuable position in a competitive landscape. Then, we detail how these ideas fit into an overall approach to business, communication, etc…. There are lessons we can all learn from very recent (and still ongoing) failures in crisis communications from our local electric company and elected officials during a weather event, bowing to cancel culture by a national non-profit org. and a billion-dollar tech company that can’t live up to basic expectations. Strap in, we’re calling out leaders for their mistakes and piecing together the lessons we can all learn. The key is learning from our (and other people’s) mistakes. Crisis Communication: 1. There is no such thing as over-communication in crisis situations. 2. You have to meet expectations, not do the minimum. 3. Protocols are better than plans for adapting as a situation changes. 4. Keep your tools (analog and digital) up to date at all times, so you are prepared for a crisis situation. 5. Put a human face on a crisis. Let the people you need to connect with see and hear a real person. 6. Use everything, multiple times. See item #1 again. 7. Actual transparency and authenticity, the way real people (your stakeholders) expect it. Cancel Culture: You cannot appease your way back from being canceled. (Unless you really, really screwed up) the attempt to do so will only cost you, supporters while doing nothing to “un-cancel” your reputation online. Unmet Expectations: How can a Billion (with a B) dollar tech company like T-Mobile have a poorly designed and performing website? They must not care about customer appreciation. What do all of these have to do with each other? More communication, even if it’s incomplete or not what people are happy to hear, is always better than less communication. “The Professor” Pritch Pritchard, APR and PRSA Fellow breaks down the top 10 crisis communications myths according to “Effective Crisis Communication – Moving From Crisis to Opportunity” by three of today’s most respected crisis/risk communication scholars: Robert R. Ulmer, University of Nevada/University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Timothy L. Sellnow, University of Central Florida and Matthew W. Seeger – Wayne State University. The Effective Crisis Communication https://www.sagepub.com/hi/nam/effective-crisis-communication/book246198 textbook examines the latest theories and innovative approaches for handling crisis. Unlike other crisis communication texts, this acclaimed book answers the question, “what now?” and explains how organizations can create the potential for opportunity, renewal, and growth through effective crisis communication. Authors Robert R. Ulmer, Timothy L. Sellnow, and Matthew W. Seeger provide guidelines for taking the many challenges that crises present and turning those challenges into opportunities. Practical lessons and in-depth case studies highlight successes and failures in dealing with core issues of crisis leadership, including managing uncertainty, communicating effectively, understanding risk, promoting communication ethics, enabling organizational learning, and producing renewing responses to crisis. Welcome to the first full week of Q4 2020. No matter how far from normal this year has been so far, there are still lessons to be learned, business processes to be evaluated and (most importantly) planning for 2021 should be in full swing. This year, you can’t just create a Plan “A” but you also need plans “B” “C” and “D” to cover the variations of COVID-19 recovery, the presidential elections and general uncertainty in the world for the upcoming year. Since COVID-19 started impacting business transactions in early 2020, we have been telling you to Adapt, Adopt or Pivot. On this episode, we will discuss how to evaluate, measure and utilize what we have all learned from 2020 and how to best move your business forward into the still very uncertain 2021. Thanks to 2020, you should have made changes (minor or major) to your business operations with NEW and DIFFERENT tools (digital and brick/mortar) for marketing and selling, insights/data, competitive landscape, audience/potential audience and expectations. The key to 2021 will be taking advantage of what’s working right now and in the future along with recovering the investments you have made to survive 2020. If you need help, don’t know where to start or just don’t want to go it alone please contact us – that’s what we’re here for! https://thegoldinggroup.com/contact-us/ BONUS: Do NOT use the term “New Normal” because in business every day is new and nothing about our current business situations can be considered “Normal”. Business Development A to Z

2020-07-0101:03:04

A full hour breaking down Business Development into 10 easy-to-understand sections. It’s our longest episode for a good reason – Business Development is the central nervous system of any organization. Let’s break it all down: Kyle’s Top 5: * Marketing is a 2-way conversation * Community building for brands * Business Process Management (BPM) * Change Management * 2 ways to profit Pritch’s Top 5: * Leadership training and development * Internal and external communication protocols * Crisis Management protocols * Red Teaming / R&D * PR predictions for 2020/21 On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. There are a lot of marketing, communication and PR acronyms like RPIE, RACE, SMART, SWOT and ROI. On this episode, we add one more: A.M.M.O. Audience Message Measurement Objectives (just not exactly in that order) “The Professor” Pritch Pritchard, APR breaks down the acronym pieces, why each is important and how to use them in business communication. This works for external and internal communications which is extra important right now due to stress, concern and changes related to COVID-19 safety protocols, limitations and restrictions. Use A.M.M.O. to focus your aim at the target market before taking your shot at effective communication. Bullseye! On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. There’s a MAJOR hurdle to a successful reopening transition period all business owners and decision-makers in all industries are dealing with right now. On this episode, we define the problem and give you advice, strategy and tactics needed to overcome this obstacle with minimal extra budget (but plenty of extra focus and effort). Along with corporate culture, employee relations and how to best utilize your stimulus checks (Spoiler Alert: #BuyLocal) we also discuss maximizing coronavirus slowdowns to build brand loyalty, jumpstart sales without “selling” and NOT apologizing for doing things your way (while being open to feedback). On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. Do you know the difference between Goals, Objectives, Strategy & Tactics? Too many business people don’t get it, often confusing the various important part of the business plan, getting them out of order or just not paying attention to each aspect. So we’re going to walk you through the differences and uses for each business planning element so you can create more effective practices. “The Professor” Pritch Pritchard, APR will explain why he objects to objectives (he really objects to people incorrectly labeling tactics as objectives). The Powerpoint download link Pritch mentioned on the podcast is here: https://bit.ly/ObjectivesPPT On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. Now more than ever, customer service is paramount to establishing, maintaining and leveraging your best consumer relationships. We discuss customer service philosophy, best practices and give you a few examples of great and terrible coronavirus customer service. Customer service can make or break any business, so let’s spend some time talking about it. While you are adapting, adopting or pivoting your business for COVID-19 limitations and restrictions, you have the opportunity (yes, that the right word during this pandemic) to attract new customers, build better relationships and strengthen your business future by doubling or tripling down on customer service. After all, it’s on of the few things you have complete control of before, during and after the coronavirus impact on business and society. On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. Ep92: “The Professor” Pritch Pritchard breaks down the elements of a clear and captivating message via the acronym CUBE A (created by Brad Phillips, one of the world’s top media trainers) for internal and external communication. C is for Consistent U is for Unburdened B is for Brief E is for Earworthy A is for Audience Focused We discuss messages v. slogans, types of messages and tips for crafting your memorable message. We also discuss WiFM “What’s in it For Me?” and “Not In My Backyard” or NIMBY. According to Wikipedia, NIMBY first appears in a June 1980 newspaper article from Virginia, but was popularized in the 1980s by British politician Nicholas Ridley, who was Conservative Secretary of State for the Environment and comedian George Carlin used the term in a comedy skit, implying that people had already heard of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NIMBY On every #NeoMarketing podcast, we discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options.
