While working at Extended Results, Michael led product development of their PushBI flagship product acquired by TIBCO Software. Michael went on to earn an MBA degree from the University of Washington that improved his business and leadership expertise. He used these skills at Microsoft, where he managed IT teams to deliver business-driven initiatives for Microsoft Consulting Services that operate across 80+ countries. Michel also had experience working at the Washington state office of the CIO, where he led a team responsible for digital transformation. Relying on his understanding and knowledge of the B2B business environment, he went on to bring value to a corporate wellness and health startup, Aduro, where he was responsible for product development and technology as the CTO. During his time at Aduro, he rolled out a valuable product line of consumer and B2B applications. Capitalizing on his experience working at Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft and RealNetworks, as well as startups that generated millions in funding, Michael co-founded Healthcare Solutions (HCS). As a CTO of HCS, Michael brings leading-edge technology solutions and products that further develop the company. His CISO role includes information security management, which involves developing a company-wide security strategy that supports the HCS's mission and goals, as well as ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations. Michael's CFO responsibilities at HCS involve managing the financial side of the company. This includes tracking cash flow, taking care of financial planning, and analyzing the financial strengths and weaknesses of the company as well as implementing corrective actions. Instead of being satisfied with the status quo, Michael continuously works on the next big idea to create value for the companies he works for and his own projects. Scott’s Social Media Scott’s Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scott-schliebner-1087789/ Scott’s email: schliebnerscott@prahs.com Scott’s Advice I talked a little bit about comfort zone, I talked a little bit about always trying to push ourselves in areas that maybe we're uncomfortable with, or areas maybe that we're not confident about. Or maybe that we don't feel like we know what we're doing. I I guess I feel like maybe you can't do that every minute or every hour of every day. But I think we should all challenge ourselves to do something a little different today. Maybe you start small, if it sounds scary. Pick up the phone and talk to somebody new. Try to do something you've never done, cook, something you've never made. I think with each of those experiences, I feel like when you tackle a little bit of the unknown, and if you have a little bit of success, you can build on that. The next time you want to do something out of your comfort zone, it's a little easier
On this episode of the Jason Cavness Experience I talk to Maury Pittman of Maury’s Hive Tea CavnesssHR Beta Testing Wait List Sign up Be sure to sign up for the Beta Testing of the CavnessHR platform. www.CavnessHR.co By signing up to our beta testing you will receive 3 months free and after that be locked into our beta pricing forever. CavnessHR Social Media CavnessHR website: https://www.cavnessHR.com Jason’s email: jasoncavness@cavnessHR.com @CavnessHR across social media @jasoncavnessHR across social media We talk about the following Maury’s Hive Tea His entrepreneurial journey Being a black owned business Advice to people thinking about starting a business Maury’s Bio Maury Pittman is a Dad, personal trainer, tea maker & entrepreneur. For over twenty years, Maury has supported and assisted others in their personal fitness and life goal journeys. His commitment to his clients runs deep and is only surpassed by his commitment and dedication to his boys; 13 year old Gavin and 11 year old Tyler. Maury’s youngest son Ty, lives with epilepsy and the after-effects of needed, but heavy, medications for the first six or seven years of his life. He navigates the world differently than most and relies on those who love him to provide for him in deeper ways than most children. Maury holds this truth close as he makes each and every business decision. He carries the weight of it emotionally and financially for Ty but also for Gav. What was to become Maury’s Hive Tea began in his kitchen, after a chat with a client. Maury was pushing through a cold to train a client, when the client offered him some green tea. After a sip he said he wished it was sweeter and the two chatted about how great it would be if they had a way to have honey travel with the tea bags. A follow up text that night, and an internet search the following day, began a journey for Maury that has twisted and turned its way to becoming Maury’s Hive Tea. After several creative yet unsuccessful attempts to self-solve the problem, Maury found a company that sold granulated honey. He placed his first order, then spent many nights, after long days, measuring and taste testing multiple recipes until he landed on the proprietary whole leaf and honey blend that met his quality and taste standards. Initially he had 15-20 clients he gave samples to and they asked for more. He brought the handmade tea bags to the gym and began to sell them for $1 each. And within one month was selling $500 bags per week. He knew he was onto something and began doing tastings in local specialty shops and groceries stores in Fairfield and Westchester Counties in CT & NY. What began as a small dream in his condo kitchen, began to form into a business. Over time Maury continued to work to grow and expand the business, ultimately taking on a small amount of seed equity investment. This initial capital allowed the business to rebrand and begin approaching potential distribution partners. Currently Maury’s Hive Tea is offered in over 45 locations around the Northeast and has recently entered into a distribution agreement with Sysco, the world’s largest food distributor. While it is still early days, the Company and Maury himself are both excited about the prospects for the future! He will ship you some of his great Maury’ Hive Tea for free. maury@mauryshivetea.com Maury’s Advice So again, if you're looking for a way to start your business or to even look for ways to invest in other companies. Guys get out there, do your research. Because again, it's not gonna fall in your lap, that's for sure.

I think the biggest lesson I ever learned was and what was such an aha moment for me was somebody drew a stick figure on a page. They said most people think that success and failure are two opposing forces on you. You're either getting pulled towards success or pulled towards failure. In reality, it's not that way. Then they redrew the stick figure and then failure and then success. That's your path to success. Recognizing that you're gonna fail a bunch of times and that's actually propelling you on your path to success.

Over the company's 20+ year history, Tom has nurtured AWeber from a small start-up to a robust organization, that has enabled over 1 million customers to grow their businesses, all without public or venture funding. Tom laid the foundation for AWeber while working at a computer hardware firm in the mid 1990s, where he realized sales prospects were falling through the cracks due to lack of proper follow up. By automating the delivery of personalized follow up emails to prospects, company-wide sales skyrocketed, and sales associates had additional time to spend pursuing new prospects. Go to the link below https://www.aweber.com/free-t2.htm Tom’s Advice I would say just get started do something. Whatever that thing is that you've had on your to do list. That you've been anxious about and not wanting to get started. Just put something out there. Because once it's out there, you kind of get over that inertia and you'll start the ball rolling. So really, whether it's starting a newsletter or starting a business, just do something, get it out in the world. So you can start getting feedback and the rest will kind of go from there. But until you get started, you're not going to get any results and you're not going to get any feedback. So just move things forward.
