What’s better for longevity—running or walking? It’s a bit of a trick question. But if there is one answer, it’s definitely walking. If you want to be fit and live for a long time, you don’t need to subject yourself to suffer fests and slog through long runs.In fact, when you combine daily walks with the habit of sprinting just about once a week, magic starts to happen. Today, I’m thrilled to be joined once again by our friend Mark Sisson, New York Times bestselling author and founder of Primal Kitchen and Peluva minimalist shoes.Mark had an incredible career as an elite endurance athlete, qualifying for the 1980 Olympic trials in the marathon. But as you’ll hear, his high-mileage running habit ultimately took a toll, leading him to rethink everything he thought he knew about fitness and longevity. In his new book, Mark makes a compelling case that we humans are actually born to walk, not necessarily run, and that walking is one of the most powerful and most underrated tools we have for improving our health, body composition, and quality of life. As usual, this conversation challenges mainstream fitness dogma, and Mark always brings the receipts. In this conversation with Mark, you’ll hear: Why effective exercise includes walking, strength training, and sprinting (but not necessarily jogging or running)How “biohacking” is brokenWhy stem cell treatments might be more dangerous than we thoughtWhat longevity really meansAnd much more…Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/mark-sisson-why-walking-beats-running-for-longevity/Pick up Mark’s new book, “Born To Walk” on Amazon or wherever books are sold.Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/ Listen and support the show on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/show/6ZBhFATsjzIJ3QVofgOH Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus This episode is brought to you by:AG1—claim your FREE $76 gift with your subscription. Have you ever had a concussion?Anyone who’s ever had their bell rung knows recovery can be brutal. But with enough time and the right treatment, our bodies also have the remarkable ability to heal. Today we’re going hard in the paint on brain health, electromagnetic fields and decentralization in tech, food and finance with our friend Tristan Scott.Tristan is an electrical engineer, health marketing lead at Daylight Computer Company, and author of “Bitcoin and Beef.”After suffering from debilitating long-term symptoms following multiple concussions sustained as a college athlete, Tristan made a commitment to healing his brain. This led to a deep dive into the world of alternative health, exploring the critical roles our diet, circadian rhythm and electromagnetic environment play in our health and performance. I met Tristan in Austin last year at Squatch while feasting on delicious beef from our friend Johnny, and from our first conversation it’s clear why Tristan has become a rising voice and leader in the world of alternative health and tech. Tristan’s expertise in electrical engineering gives him a unique perspective on the often-overlooked impacts of EMFs, and how we can reclaim our health and sovereignty in the face of the technological onslaught of the modern world. In this conversation with Tristan Scott, you’ll hear:Easy tips to reduce your exposure to EMFs (from a trained engineer)How Tristan recovered from long-term symptoms following multiple concussionsTristan’s vision for decentralized technology to create a more sovereign futureThe surprising relationship between bitcoin and beefAnd more…Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/tristan-scott-hidden-dangers-of-emfs-and-artificial-blue-light/Go to https://daylightcomputer.com to explore the Daylight Computer tablet, and pick up Tristan Scott's book "Bitcoin and Beef" here on AmazonJoin the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/ Listen and support the show on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/show/6ZBhFATsjzIJ3QVofgOH Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonusThis episode is brought to you by:Pique Life—Go to PiqueLife.com/wild to save 20% off plus get a free rechargeable frother and glass beaker with your 1st purchaseAlive Water—Go to AliveWaters.com and use code ABELJAMES to save 22% off your 1st order

Do you feel a constant pressure to optimize every aspect of your life?   What if hyper-optimization protocols actually do more harm than good?   The glorification of hustle culture has given many of us the nagging feeling that no matter how much we do or accomplish, it's never quite enough.   Living in a cloud of frantic, urgent, reactive energy can even cause us to lose sight of who we are and why we’re working so hard.  If you want to reclaim your time, energy and purpose in life, you need to rebel against cultural norms and conditioning that does not serve you.  You’ll be in good company. Studies have shown that no matter their field or area of expertise, peak performers share a unique characteristic: they take time for complete rest and recovery.  So when was the last time you created space for rest, or experienced the unexpected joys of under-committing and doing nothing for a minute? If your identity is in any way defined by over-achievement, hyper-optimization, perfectionism, or an obsession with productivity, this episode is for you.  And listen, I may be behind the microphone, but I’m just as guilty of all of this tomfoolery as the rest of you! Today, we're here with Israa Nasir, a New York City-based psychotherapist, author, and the founder of WellGuide—a digital community for mental health awareness. Israa's new book, "Toxic Productivity" is strong medicine for anyone who's ever felt the pressure to be constantly busy, constantly achieving, and constantly proving their worth. In this episode with Israa, you’ll hear: Why hyper-optimization protocols often do more harm than good Why chasing and achieving the next big win can eventually lead to feeling more empty and disconnected than ever before How to break free from the constant pressure to achieve and optimize every aspect of your life How to build meaningful relationships in a hyperconnected but lonely worldAnd much more… One quick note. Israa recorded this from a hotel room in the middle of her book tour, and her wifi connection was low-quality and dropped a few times, so we did our best to cobble it back together. Apologies in advance for any audio or video issues.  As a recovering perfectionist myself, perhaps releasing an imperfect show is indeed part of the recovery process. :) Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/israa-nasir-why-hyper-optimization-protocols-do-more-harm-than-good/ Go to https://www.israanasir.com/ to get Israa Nasir's new book, "Toxic Productivity" Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Listen and support the show on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/show/6ZBhFATsjzIJ3QVofgOH  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: Prime Protein from EquipFoods.com - Save 15% off your first order or 30% off your subscription with code ABELJAMES Juvent Micro-Impact Platform from Juvent.com - Save $500 off your purchase with code WILD

Why do fancy restaurants fill their meals with junk oils, sugars, chemical preservatives, and worse? With rampant food inflation and razor thin margins, even the fanciest, most exclusive and expensive restaurants can’t resist the tendency to cut corners on ingredient quality. That means that no matter how much you spend on eating out - with few exceptions - you’re still getting shockingly low-quality food.So how do high profile celebrities and the rich and famous achieve such dramatic transformations? And are regular joes and janes like us actually better off without private chefs and nutritionists?Today we’re here with celebrity chef and entrepreneur, James Barry.Chef James Barry’s 20 years in the field started as a private chef cooking for billionaires, musicians, and celebrities, including Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack, to name a few. What’s the difference between education and indoctrination? Is our education system broken, or is it operating as intended? The public school conveyor belt is a relic of the Prussian military model, designed to produce compliant workers for factories rather than sovereign thinkers with upward mobility. We’re left with a blindly obedient population that’s smart enough to follow orders, but not smart or courageous enough to question the status quo.   The masses are conditioned to become habitually compliant conformists forever reliant on external authority. As Seth Godin writes, “To efficiently run a school, amplify fear (and destroy passion).” These days, educators have limited intellectual freedom to teach what they want to teach.  In past decades, we had far less access to information or schooling, yet were far more educated. Now in the age of AI, we have access to unlimited information, but we don’t know if any of it is real or true.  So what is the future of education? Our guest today is Matt Beaudreau, a former public school educator and administrator who has dedicated his career to rethinking the very foundations of our education system. Matt shares: “When I saw this system for what it was, I could no longer be a part of perpetuating it.” As founder of the Apogee Strong mentorship program, Matt has an unwavering commitment to empowering young people to become sovereign, self-directed learners - a radical departure from the compliance-driven model that dominates our schools. True education should foster creativity and critical thinking, allowing individuals to pursue their unique passions. Matt’s belief, which I share, is that genius is common, and true learning is about unlocking the innate genius in every one of us. In this episode, you’ll discover: How to unshackle your mind from the limits of traditional schooling and cultural conditioning  Why modern education systems are anti-entrepreneurial and train students to be employees rather than innovators How to utilize passion as a vehicle to learn how to learn How to cultivate courage, foster civil discourse and intellectual flexibility to counter the polarization and echo chambers in today's society The status games played by elite institutions And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/matt-beaudreau-how-to-nurture-genius-and-courage-in-a-habitually-compliant-population/  Go to https://apogeestrong.com/ to enroll, watch the Documentary, and get more from Matt Beaudreau and the Apogee Strong team Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Listen and support the show on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/show/6ZBhFATsjzIJ3QVofgOH   Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman   Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman   Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames   Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: LMNT Electrolytes from DrinkLMNT.com - Collect your FREE 8-Pack of Electrolytes with any purchase: DrinkLMNT.com/Wild  DS-01™ Probiotics and Prebiotics from Seed.com - Save 25% off your first month with promo code 25WILD
Is your work aligned with your true calling in life? Or are you being paid to overlook your overwhelming disinterest in the work? Is your work-life driven by an illusion where the trivial is disguised as important? Tragically, this week’s guest admits, “I spent 10 years doing an enormous amount of work but feeling as if I created nothing of substance.” Most of us know the feeling, but it doesn’t have to be this way. In other words, work doesn’t have to suck. Today, I'm thrilled to have my good friend and fellow Austinite, Paul Millerd joining us on the show. Paul is a fellow former corporate consultant who has spent the past 7 years blazing an unconventional trail, leaving the rat race behind to pursue a life of creativity, curiosity, and freedom as an independent author and creator. If you’re looking to reclaim your inner ambition, as Paul writes: “The only true and worthwhile edge is deeply caring about what you do.”  The real journey isn’t in indulging our desire to escape work, but in finding meaningful work that is true to our mission and purpose here on earth. In this conversation, Paul shares the raw, unfiltered story of his journey - from the uncertainty and loneliness of leaving a successful consulting career, to the unexpected joys and challenges of building a life around his curiosity and passions. We'll dive into the frameworks he's developed for discerning "good work" from "bad work," and how he's navigated the ebb and flow of creative entrepreneurship, including the decision to turn down a lucrative publishing deal. Whether you're feeling trapped in a soul-sucking job, or simply curious about what's possible when you break free of societal scripts, you're going to find an abundance of wisdom and inspiration in Paul's story. In this episode, you’ll discover: Paul's framework for differentiating between "good work," "good enough work," and "bad work," and how you can apply this to your life How to find a balance between creative work and financial stability How to break free of your attachment to social status, material possessions, and your identity as an “achiever” Sage advice for those who are considering leaving the traditional corporate world to pursue their passions and creative interests How to coexist with your doubts and fears and feelings of uncertainty (instead of numbing or running away from them) How to reclaim your ambition to pursue YOUR good work And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/paul-millerd-why-he-blew-up-his-life-and-you-should-too/  Go to https://pmillerd.com/goodwork/ to get Paul Millerd’s brand new book “Good Work: Reclaiming Your Inner Ambition.” Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Listen and support the show on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/show/6ZBhFATsjzIJ3QVofgOH  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: DS-01™ Probiotics and Prebiotics from Seed.com - Save 25% off your first month with promo code 25WILD LMNT Electrolytes from DrinkLMNT.com - Collect your FREE 8-Pack of Electrolytes with any purchase: DrinkLMNT.com/Wild
What does the concept of longevity mean to you? Does it mean pumping your body full of exogenous hormones, peptides, stem cells, brain implants, and gradually replacing your organs with lab-grown pig parts? Perhaps some of us will sign up to be a brain in a jar? Or can we cruise into our second century by living a simple life of self-reflection, meditating deep in the mountains? Afterall, in remote corners of the world, there are legends of yogis and spiritual masters living so long that their true age is forgotten to time. Indeed, there are many paths on the road to a long life. In the years ahead, the bifurcation between devout transhumanists on a quest to live forever and those who prefer a more natural approach to aging will become more and more obvious. Today I’m honored to be joined by our friend Mark Divine, a former Navy SEAL commander, an entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, host of The Mark Divine Show, and renowned expert in personal transformation, mindfulness, and the untapped potential of the human mind. In this expansive conversation, we explore the transformative power of silence and self-reflection, the intricate dance between the ego and attachment, as well as extraordinary feats of consciousness, healing and longevity documented in Eastern spiritual traditions. In this episode, you’ll discover: How to break free from the conditioning and limiting beliefs that lead many of us to a "common" life of quiet desperation Powerful practices to master the mind’s energy by combining Eastern wisdom and Western science Why sitting in silence and witnessing one's thoughts is crucial for deconstructing limiting beliefs and stories, leading to greater freedom and self-awareness How to redefine your relationship with reality to unlock your full potential And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/mark-divine-master-your-minds-energy-to-become-uncommon/  Grab Mark Divine's new book “Uncommon: Simple Principles for an Extraordinary Life”:  https://readuncommon.com/ and head over to https://markdivine.com/ for more. When you know what you’re supposed to do, what keeps you from actually doing it? We’re all guilty at times of procrastination, pleasure-seeking, indulging in distraction and escapism, and even self-sabotage. Perhaps it’s all part of the human condition. But since knowing what to do is different from actually doing it, it’s essential to set up systems in our lives to make healthy choices the default option. And sometimes we need a little help getting out of our own way. By helping you work through the subconscious emotional blocks that prevent you from taking positive action, finding the right coach and accountability partner can make a massive difference in your long term results. As today’s guest quips, "I can't help people solve their problems until I find out why they like having them." Today we’re here with our friend, Adam Gilbert, trainer, author and founder of My Body Tutor, a company he created to help people stop making excuses when it comes to health and fitness by providing personal accountability. Whether you're a seasoned athlete, a busy parent, a coach, or just dipping your toes into health and fitness, you'll walk away with actionable strategies and a renewed sense of motivation to make positive and lasting changes in your life. In this episode, you’ll discover: How to identify and overcome common self-sabotaging patterns and behaviors The role of hormone replacement therapy and other trends in the pursuit of health and longevity Advice for parents who are trying to balance their own health goals with the demands of raising young children How to find joy and fulfillment in your journey toward health, rather than viewing it as a sacrifice And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/adam-gilbert-overcome-self-sabotage-and-unlock-your-full-potential/  Get personalized 1:1 coaching from Adam Gilbert and the Body Tutor Team at MyBodyTutor.com Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman   Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman   Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: DS-01® Daily Synbiotic from Seed.com - Save 25% off your first month with code: 25WILD  The Relax Infinity app at RelaxInfinity.com - Save 20% off with the promo code WILD
Have you heard that eating animal protein causes cancer? Or that you’ll save the world if you only give up hamburgers forever?  Despite dutifully reducing our consumption of animal protein for decades, rates of obesity and chronic disease have skyrocketed.   In the face of relentless anti-meat propaganda, what if the blanket advice to follow strict plant-based diets is actually accelerating rates of obesity and disease?  When I gave up meat as a young athlete for the sake of health and the environment, my results were abysmal. I lost muscle, gained fat, lacked energy, recovered poorly, and my race performance suffered.  Since plant-based fake meats and meat substitutes are incomplete proteins that are not well absorbed or utilized by our bodies, avoiding high-quality animal protein can lead to poor outcomes in health and performance for children and adults alike.  Meatless Mondays may sound virtuous, but they’re not saving the environment or solving the obesity epidemic as many are led to believe.  Indiscriminately blaming cattle for the sins of fossil fuels and industrial agriculture is a mistake. We all want to save the world, but as this week’s guest quips: “we can’t eat our way out of a climate crisis.”  Whether you’re raising animals or growing crops, industrial agriculture isn’t friendly to the environment or our health. Prioritizing the health of your body and the planet requires that we source real food according to the laws of nature, prioritizing regenerative agriculture and pasture-raised animals over the products of concentrated feedlots and industrial monocrops. When it comes to health and performance, eating high-quality protein from healthy animals is one of the most powerful weapons we have to fight obesity, muscle wasting, and premature aging.  Today we’re back with our friend Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, a New York Times Bestselling author, podcaster and functional medicine physician specializing in the concept of muscle-centric medicine, which focuses on the largest organ in the body, skeletal muscle, as the key to health and longevity. In this episode with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, you’ll discover: Why what we think of as aging is actually a disease of impaired muscle The surprising relationship between meat, protein, and cancer How society's focus on weight loss has led to neglect of muscle building, which is critical for overall health The most effective exercises and training frequency to build skeletal muscle, optimize metabolism, and fight aging And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/gabrielle-lyon-why-meat-eating-and-strength-training-are-key-to-longevity/  Grab Dr. Gabrielle Lyon’s new book “Forever Strong”: https://drgabriellelyon.com/forever-strong/ Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: The Relax Infinity app at RelaxInfinity.com - Save 20% off with the promo code WILD Wild-caught seafood from MarithymeSeafood.com - Get 10% off your first order with code EATWILD
If you’re not happy all the time, do you feel like you have a problem? No matter how much you achieve, does it feel like it’s never quite enough?  This is totally normal.  There’s nothing inherently wrong with the pursuit of happiness, but it’s critical to understand that even in the best case scenario, happiness is fleeting. It’s not something we ever get to keep.  We’re conditioned to think that if we don’t feel happy, we’re failing at life. The traditional approach to addressing unhappiness is flawed, however, as it assumes we’re meant to live in some perfect state of perpetual bliss. But that doesn’t jive with biology or reality.  The truth is that our mammalian brains are wired for survival, not to feel happy all the time.  Feelings of happiness and achievement are short-lived, and it’s meant to be that way.  But by harnessing proven principles of brain science and evolutionary biology, you can use dissatisfaction, pain and discomfort to propel you to your next epic success.  Today we’re back with our friend, Loretta Breuning, PhD, author, Professor Emerita of Management at California State University, East Bay, and Founder of the Inner Mammal Institute. In this episode, you’ll discover: Why our brain's happy chemicals are only released in short spurts, and quickly habituate to rewards How to untangle your emotional wiring by tracking down patterns from childhood Why our natural "herd impulse" can lead to groupthink and the suppression of individuality (and how to counteract it) Simple strategies to manage anxiety and fear How to spark small joys and harness dopamine triggers in the brain’s reward system to create meaning and purpose in your life And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/loretta-breuning-why-youre-not-happy-and-what-to-do-about-it/  Get Loretta Breuning’s latest book, “Why You’re Unhappy: Biology vs Politics”: https://innermammalinstitute.org/why/  Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  And click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: Wild-caught seafood from MarithymeSeafood.com - Get 10% off your first order with code EATWILD The Relax Infinity app at RelaxInfinity.com - Save 20% off with the promo code WILD
Do you feel like you’re addicted to screens? Technology was supposed to improve our quality of life, but instead it’s fueled a war on our attention, happiness, and sanity. Some of the most intelligent brain scientists in the world are paid ungodly sums to make sure you’re as addicted as possible, hijacking your reward pathways so they can mine your time, manipulate your thought processes, and sell your data to the highest bidder. The endless pursuit of corporate profits has created an algorithmic race to the bottom. Constant digital stimulation rewires our brains, upsets hormonal balance, saps our energy, and even degrades our ability to feel connected to humans in real life. The damage that social media and screentime can cause to mental health, especially for young women, is well-documented. Social media platforms contribute to body dysmorphia and eating disorders, and progressively lead to serious mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and far worse. In the face of epidemic levels of loneliness and isolation, men who pursue pleasure from screens reinforce their addiction to digital stimulation, which causes testosterone levels, energy, and motivation to plummet. So how can we reverse our overreliance on exploitative modern technology and create real, authentic human connections and relationships in a digital age? Today we’re back with our friend Dr. John Gray, former monk and author of more than 20+ books including “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” the best-selling relationship book of all time. In this episode with Dr. Gray, you’ll discover: Simple strategies to increase testosterone in men, and balance hormones in women (without using exogenous drugs) What living as a monk for 9 years taught Dr. Gray about mindfulness and meditation How harnessing the “polarity” between masculine and feminine energies can reignite attraction, intimacy and romance in relationships Why complaining can be addictive and what to do instead How small acts of kindness and appreciation help build intimacy and connection in your relationships The potential impacts and dangers of new technologies like virtual reality on future human relationships and interactions And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/dr-john-gray-how-to-overcome-tech-addiction-optimize-hormones-and-reignite-romance/  Claim your free course from Dr. John Gray: https://www.marsvenus.com/gift Join the Abel James’ Substack channel: https://abeljames.substack.com/  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow on X: https://x.com/abeljames  And click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus  Brought to you by: The Relax Infinity app at RelaxInfinity.com - Save 20% off with the promo code WILD Wild-caught seafood from MarithymeSeafood.com - Get 10% off your first order with code EATWILD

1. Too personal conversation. 2. Even when it's not it doesn't concern regular people.

This episode helped me get motivated again. A good reminder that starting over can give back a freedom from addictions and food compulsions. I'm fine sticking to what works, so back to the basics.

I wish you would have had someone who's objective. Scott is a bit bias, he will promote his product. I would have liked to know more about less expensive products. Not everyone can afford a joovv. The joovv mini is 695 USD and the solo is 1195 USD. If you are Canadian that's 945 and 1626 respectively, not including taxes.
