What are the key secrets to a happy, healthy, and successful marriage? 💍 Without a doubt, this is one of the questions we get asked the most by our friends and fellow entrepreneurs. Marriage isn't an easy road, and it has the ability to become even more challenging when your spouse is simultaneously your business partner. So, in episode 008 of the For Purpose & Profit podcast, we're sharing the 3 keys that have completely transformed our marriage for the better. If you and your spouse vow to live by these 3 key teachings — whether you're in business together or not (but ESPECIALLY if you are) — then you've got a recipe for success! You'll have a marriage that is built upon a strong, long-lasting foundation that is unshakeable 👩‍❤️‍👨
We all like to think of ourselves as people who do what we say we believe in. We all want to be deemed as someone of true conviction. But how many of us really ARE those people? Are YOU one of those people? We often hear people say, "I'm 100% committed to taking my business to the next level!"... But then when it comes time to take action and invest in themselves, they jump back onto the fence without realizing they just contradicted the conviction they just proclaimed they had. For a long time, we were right there with them, so I know it's not an easy decision to make  — but it's a necessary  and simple one. Either you're 100% committed or you're not... There is no success in entrepreneurship without some level of risk and uncertainty, so trying to evade it is futile. It's black or white  —  hot or cold... There is no grey or lukewarm. So, are you fooling yourself or are you REALLY committed to your higher purpose?
Over the past few years, we've tried different business models and tackled many niches 🤷‍♀️  Although we grew and learned a great deal in each every one of these endeavours, there was always something that was out of alignment — something that we couldn't quite put our finger on. In late 2018, we finally realized that we had to get a lot more clear about what we truly envisioned for our lives, because only then could we really start taking conscious and purposeful actions every day that would get us closer to our true purpose. What we ultimately realized was that we both had a love and skill for teaching 👩‍🏫 We didn't want to sell someone else's product, we didn't want to do done-for-you services, and we didn't want to sell and ship physical products. For our own personal reasons, these business models — although equally viable in their own right — were just not for us. As opposed to merely giving our clients a metaphorical fish, we wanted to teach them how to fish 🎣 We wanted to empower people through education to change their lives — to empower people to become the heroes of their own stories. Through our 4-step process called the Impact Formula, you can — whether you're a beginner in the online world of business, or you've been at it for a couple years already trying to find your way — understand the keys to creating a purposeful and profitable business around what you know... Around your "ikigai"  — the intersection between what you're good at 💪, what you love 💓, what you can get paid for 💰, and what the world needs 🌎🤲 If you'd like to learn more about the 4 steps of the Impact Formula and how you can get to $100K+ by creating a better world, just keep listening... It's no secret that the majority of millennials are feeling unfulfilled and frustrated with the state of their lives and the greater world.  Unlike the preceding generations, millennials aren't content with the status quo and so they're going to great lengths to question and find the real purpose of their lives — of their existence on this planet. They don't want to attend post-secondary — a system that is already outdated and irrelevant to many new career options that have only come into existence over the past 5-10 years.  They don't want to work at a soul-sucking 9-5 job for 40+ years that overworks them, underpays them, and undervalues them. They don't want to be disconnected and powerless in a world full of self-seeking authorities that truthfully couldn't care less about the future of their youth. They want their work to reflect a human soul that didn't just exist to make a living. They want their work to reflect a human soul that exemplifies a life well-lived  —  a life that is honourable, compassionate, and world-changing. Some may call them entitled, over-idealistic, or even crazy. We call them Social Entrepreneurs.
On today's episode, we're talking about "Conscious Capitalism" — a philosophy stating that businesses should serve all principal stakeholders, including the environment. It does not minimize profit-seeking but encourages the assimilation of all common interests into the company's business plan.  Did you know that there over 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the U.S. alone?  Did you also know that over 700 of them go out of business every single day? That sad truth is that these nonprofit organizations, along with many "for profit" organizations as well, fail because they don't know how to maximize both of the necessary bottom lines — Social impact AND profit. The nonprofits' good intentions are capped and undermined due to a lack of financial resources, while the large corporations acquire an abundance financial resources at the cost of the well-being of their employees, their consumers, the greater society, and the environment. Nonetheless, companies like Sevenly, Toms shoes, and Panera are breaking the current system and doubling down on BOTH their bottom lines for the good of all.  A new wave of conscious capitalism is on the rise.
I had the honour of speaking with Salima Sally Kadaoui of SFT Animal Sanctuary in Tangier, Morocco! 🇲🇦🐶 I'm so grateful she took some time out of her oh-so-very busy day taking care of thousands of animals to share more about her incredibly inspiring story!  As a child, Salima dreamed of ending the suffering of the street animals in Morocco. After years of living abroad, she returned to her home country and began to do exactly that. Since opening its doors in 2013, SFT Animal Sanctuary has neutered, treated, vaccinated, and tagged thousands of dogs and cats (among many other animals as well!).  SFT works to educate the local community and authorities of Tangier about stray animals, and has made considerable progress in turning fear and apathy into love and compassion 👫💕🐕 Salima not only dreams of a day when Tangier is the first rabies-free and stray-free city in all of Africa, but a day when there is harmony among the humans and animals in every part of the world 🌍 If you'd like to be a part of this beautiful cause and help make Salima's dream a reality, please donate here!
I once heard a quotation that stated, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” I truly believe that true happiness ― joy ― can only be achieved through contribution. By giving something of great value to others without expecting anything in return. Even when we know this, however, it can still be difficult to know wholeheartedly just what that gift is that we must give away, and who would most benefit from receiving it. In Episode 002: What’s Your Purpose?, we propose some important questions about how we can know our true purpose, and how we can stay encouraged to fulfill it even through the most trying of challenges. Thanks For listening!
In Episode 001, we share our vision behind “For Purpose & Profit” — why exactly we believe it’s time for the relationship between purpose and profit to revolutionize. In today’s world, there is a strict divide between companies and organizations that are “for purpose” and those that are “for profit”. We’ve come to accept that these two objectives are separate and cannot coexist. We’re either for meaning or money. It’s one or the other. We’re here to tell you that you, in fact, can — and must — be for both. Without purpose, there is no real, lasting contribution to the world. Without profit, impact will be crippled and held at the mercy of large, often corrupt, corporations. Together, we — social entrepreneurs — will unite purpose and profit for the betterment of all humanity and the rest of the natural world.
