Continuing with the "Taking Control of Our Narrative" series, we're discussing health disparities and advocating for your health. Having a healthy, mind, and body is the single most important asset to have in order to build thriving communities.   In this episode, I spoke with Terrica Rumph and Aquita Thomas, the creators of Mind, Melanin, & Medicine, a podcast geared towards helping African Americans in healthcare.   Aquita is a board-certified adult-gerontology primary care Nurse Practitioner. She received her bachelor’s in Nursing in 2014 and her master’s in Nursing in 2017 both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently works at an internal medicine clinic in Alabama. She also is a part-time adjunct nursing instructor for a college within her community.  Terrica Rumph is a Family Nurse Practitioner with 7 years of experience in healthcare. She is a graduate of the University of South Alabama, where she received both her Doctorate and Master’s degree in Nursing. Terrica prides herself on providing excellent patient care and being a healthcare advocate for those in the African American community. Election season is among us, and this year is very crucial.  The Black Vote is once again wanted by every candidate on each level of the government.  How much do we know about the positions we vote for?  Do you know who the candidates are and their policies?  Local and state elections are the most important to participate in as it affects our communities on a daily basis.  Do you know your voting options and how to register?  In this episode, I discuss the key positions in the local, state, and federal government, how they affect our communities and resources for research. In addition, I discuss the four ways to cast your vote and how to register.   NOTE:  The duties of the President and Vice President were not discussed as it’s the most popular positions.  Please review those duties here. As a sustainable and healthy living movement grows, we find many millennials are going back to nature. We all know the key to healthy relationships is building a strong foundation.   In this episode, I spoke with Kaye Henry about how to build this foundation and maintaining healthy relationships.  Kaye Henry is wife, mom and NYS Licensed Mental Health Clinician.
