Sunday Sermons

In this sermon we address the topic tithing. We review the practice of tithing in the Old Testament. We also look at the blessings promised to the tither. We consider if New Testament believers are to practice tithing. While not part of the sermon, the sermon notes contain brief guidance to some common questions that people ask in relation to tithing: Where should I give my tithe? Can I divide up my tithe and give to different churches/ministries? Should I tithe of my gross income (total income before tax + deductions) or net income (take-home income after tax)? What if I am in financial debt and am practically unable to tithe? What if I am just starting to tithe now, should I tithe on all my past income? If I had purchased a property and then sell it, should I tithe on the full sale amount or tithe on just the profit? In this sermon we address the topic of spiritual authority and specifically consider: Do believer’s today have the same spiritual authority over the devil and demons, as the apostles and the Early Church? And a brief on how do we exercise this authority? We consider the basis for our authority: The name of Jesus, The power of the Holy Spirit, The triumph of the Cross and Our position of authority seated with Christ. None of these are tied to the role of being an apostle. All of these are available for all believers. We must learn to speak words of authority with faith and boldness, to exercise our spiritual authority over satan and demons. As believers we sometimes could become fearful, worried or anxious about the future (our own future). Fear, worry and anxiety about the future can have a debilitating affect in our day-to-day lives. Fear about the future, holds us captives, cripples us and can trouble us in many ways. We consider God's Word and His assurance for our future. We are encouraged as we discover that we can face our future with confidence. #1, BE CONFIDENT, BECAUSE THE LORD IS WITH YOU. #2, BE CONFIDENT, BECAUSE THE LORD HAS GOOD THINGS PLANNED FOR YOU. #3, BE CONFIDENT, BECAUSE THE LORD ORDERS YOUR STEPS. #4, BE CONFIDENT, BECAUSE THE LORD IS WORKING AND ORCHESTRATING THINGS FOR YOU.
