Tom Hsieh is the godfather of snowboarding media. He started Absolutely Radical Magazine in 1985 years before Transworld. Here we have the story of how he started the world's first snowboard mag and why he eventually changed the name to ISM. This is a piece of snowboarding history I'm seriously proud of. Darrah and Geeves are two Winnipeg legends of professional snowboarding that moved to Whistler after growing up together at Forest Mountain, a converted gravel pit with a rope tow. The two are old friends and their careers happened together almost 20 years apart... Darrah's board is out right now on DWD and Geeves was a part of the legendary DC crew as a young teenager into his late 20's... Josh Dirksen is one of the nicest pro snowboarders I've ever met. Hailing from Oregon and riding out of Mt Bachelor, Josh developed amazing surf style snowboarding through a career of competing, filming, and freeriding. Damian Buckley is a 90's Canadian Pro Snowboarder from the Calgary scene. Damian's involvement with Powderstick Snowboards lead to him working for Never Snowboards briefly in Vancouver (the original Vancouver based snowboard manufacturer where Wired owner Rob Dow designed boards in the 90's). After a move to Southern California Damian returned to Calgary. Kevin Royes is the inventor behind Bakoda accessories. In the 90's Kevin innovated leashes, stomp pads, locks, waxing and binding tools. He took accessories to another level by signing Devun Walsh and half the Forum 8 to the Bakoda team. Then he sold Bakoda to Northwave and Drake in 1998. 20 years later when I tried to track him down Kevin was no where to be found. So when I got a phone call from him this summer I was stoked. Court Larabee, or Blackbird, the English translation of his anishnaabe name he uses  when doing spiritual work, is a snowboarding  powerhouse who is dedicated to raising spirit in the indigenous community . He won Whistler’s rising star award, competed in The Amazing Race Canada 8, become a celebrated actor, all while helping run The Indigenous Life Sports Academy, an organization that brings indigenous youth snowboarding on their territorial lands.  Lately, Court has been bridging the gap between resorts, cat, and Heli operations and the Indigenous people upon whose land their operations exist. Jussi Oksanen is a Finnish retired professional snowboarder who went to the olympics, won the x games, and secured15 years of International Pro Team status at Burton Snowboards including 9 pro models.
