Greetings from the Joshua Tree National Scenic Byway in Arizona.  I want to show you these Joshua trees behind me real quick. They're pretty cool. These are some pretty old trees out here.  Anyway, this is where I stopped for the night and I'm having a challenge with my electronic logging device. I'm telling you I've had it eight ways from Sunday with machines that tell you what to do and then you know, you're bound by this.  The law says that the machine is what knows what's right and you don't always have a connection. Or a good enough one to where you can get things done.  Now I'm struggling with the person that is supposed to be dealing with this stuff, to help to do it and telling me I can do this. I've never been able to do it before and now I'm supposed to call a number that tells me how to do something that I already know I can't do, and I'm frustrated.  It's a drag because it seems like this year has gotten off to a rocky start. Not big things, just small things that happen that go on. You know, it's life.  Everything else though, the stuff I'm doing online. My girl Rockit, she's had some really good sales on her stuff that she does.  I just don't understand. Maybe it's the universe telling me it's time to just not do this anymore. I don't know.  I've had this in my mind for a while. I love what I do, but the truth is I want to quit it before I don't like it. You know what I mean?  I don't want to be in a position where, Oh God, I hate this so much and blah, blah. I know some people are... maybe you, are in a situation where it feels like that. I just don't want to get that way.  But the main thing I wanted to just put out in this video is this. Mostly you hear nowadays, no man is an island and you can't do everything yourself, and you've got to get a team and get a coach and a mentor and all this.  I'm here to tell you, you've got to learn to think for yourself first.  Of course there's things that you're going to need more people in, different specialists to do different things and so on.  But first, foremost, in the end, in the beginning, and always in between.  Think for yourself, then look for help.  Because you may end up in a situation like this, where you've got to have someone else help, and depend on them, and they just don't seem to be able to get things done.  I want to end on a higher note.  Just look at the scenery behind me, you know? Cause as long as there's beauty like this in the world, we can make things happen.  And if you ever forget, just take a look at some scenery like that and you'll feel better in no time.  That's all I got for right now. I'll talk to you tomorrow. I'm out.
All right.  Doing a mobile update today. This is, after all, the mobile command center.  I don't know how the audio is going to work out. I've got it recording through the Bluetooth.  I know a lot of people are a little freaky about doing a video while you're driving but I am not. I'm hands free.  See? Both hands on the wheel. No big deal. So I'm perfectly safe.  Lately I've been talking about getting things done, planning ahead, rolling with changes and so on.  Well, it makes it a lot easier to adapt to changes when you've got a plan and you've got everything set up.  The reason I bring this up is we got probably four to six inches of snow in the Reno-Sparks area last night. And I've been talking with Rockit for at least a good month and a half, (okay, three to five weeks) about getting a shovel. Cause I don't know how much it's going to snow.  We're living in a different area now and well, I didn't make sure that it got done and she didn't make sure that it got done.  So we got all that snow and I plowed my driveway with a dust pan. Which is now probably a snow pan because it's moved far more snow than dirt. Which is cool.  It took a little bit longer than it might've, but it wasn't as awful as it might sound. It's like a three car driveway or whatever. So anyway, there's that.  Then with the snow being all over the road and everything, Rockit wasn't sure she wanted to come down and take the car back. So it turned out I was going to leave the car where I pick up my truck.  Well, it turns out that we have not taken steps to get a replacement for our extra key that I've been talking about.  I know that's been a good couple of months. Anyway, that's what my brain is telling me.  So once again, it's in the same situation, two the things that did not happen that we planned for, but did not ensure, and it caused what could have been a much bigger hassle than it ever needed to be.  So even without the shovel, there was the key. Now we were talking about something else. Oh, windshield washer for the truck. I just filled it up. So this one, it's in that stage where it's not critical yet, so we've got time to get it. It's just one of one of those things.  But this is why you make a plan. Cause your plan will not ever go exactly as you think.  But if you take the steps before hand to make sure that you've got things to take care of contingencies which could come up, then you're good to go.  I told Rockit, she goes down to Lowe's or Walmart or whatever today. I bet she'll find out that they have a very small selection of shovels, because everybody else who knew they needed a shovel and didn't get one, it's going to go out and buy one today.  So there it is.  Look ahead and get the stuff you need beforehand and that way you won't be caught behind the power curve like I was this morning.  That's all I got for right now. I hope you're having a fantastic day wherever you are.  I'm out.
Hey, how's it going? I'm talking to you from the bunker.  I'm back off of my weird trip. I bought some stuff on Ebay the other day.  The guy was a pro seller (whatever that is). He sent me this stuff in just a few days. It was absolutely awesome.  Exactly as advertised, very quick shipping. Here's the thing, as a marketer I notice stuff.  There was nothing in the package except for what I ordered.  No thank you note, no invoice, no letter, nothing. Just here's the product, here you go.  Don't get me wrong.  I was very satisfied with what I got and I tried it and it's awesome. All good.  But the thing is as a marketer I'm wondering why didn't you put a note in there? Why not... maybe it's something a little extra. Why not... here's what you can do in the future to get more. Maybe a subscription or something. It doesn't matter.  The bottom line of it is, you did such a great job on fulfillment and yet, as a direct marketer, did not realize you could put an add on or something, a ride along inside the package to increase sales in the future.  So to me as I look at it, things remain to be seen. I might get a postcard in the mail.  Here's the thing. This guy has got my snail mail shipping address. So he now has the capability, he can send me a letter or a postcard or information on sales, whatever he's got coming on in the future.  So, okay, drop the ball on including a ride along with the initial package. Absolutely awesome fulfillment and now remains to be seen.  Will he make any hay from the fact that he now owns my snail mail address?  I kinda doubt it because just the way that I'm looking at it. But when I look at what he's doing on Ebay, his pricing and his description and taking returns on a consumable product, that's... weird.  I mean, who's going to send it back, but still all good stuff.  The way you feel very comfortable buying from him and awesome fulfillment.  As a marketer though, always be thinking after you solve that initial challenge and you're doing business with someone, what can you do to add value and increase the value of this customer to you in the future?  Because you know, if they buy stuff from you, you're improving their life too. So it's a win for everybody.  That's what I'm thinking about today. I hope you're having a fantastic day wherever you are.  That's all I got. I'm out.
Good morning, even though it's almost afternoon. Going to have to make this a quick one today because the trip I'm on ended up being very weird. I had to change my appointment times and it changed my entire way of going out and coming back. So this is probably going to be the best time that I've got to talk to you. And because of that, what I'm going to talk about is adapting to what comes up. You never know what's going to happen.  No matter how much you plan, no plan ever survives contact with the enemy. You're always going to have to make adjustments and tweak things to make them the way you want them. Sometimes it never gets that way. Sometimes it just becomes a test like I talked about in the past and that's cool. You just have to be adaptable and roll with the punches.  Because if you don't, you're going to end up frustrated and angry all the time and that's not going to help you at all. Adapt to the changes and use what you're given at the time. For instance, right now I'm doing this even though it's only going on noon.  It's probably the best time. I'm going to have until midnight to make the video, but in order to get it done, in order to make sure I have it finished today, I'm going to do it now. It might be shorter, might be a little bit quicker, a little less planned, but that's cool. These are supposed to be off the cuff anyway, just another little slice of life. So I hope you're having a fantastic day where you are, and adapt to what comes your way.  In the end you'll get to where you want to go. That's all I got for now. I'll talk to you tomorrow. I'm out.
Cliches bother me.  Cliches, things that people say and overused, overworked terms.  Words in marketing and in other things.  But hey, this is about marketing. So that's what we're going to talk about today.  I was reading this email about a coaching group and it was talking about how they could help you do all of these things and you can meet your goals and everything.  One of the things the writer said in the email was that these people are going to hold you accountable to the goals that you claim that you wanted to achieve this year.  I just think that's stupid. It's the most asinine thing.  "We're going to hold you accountable."  What exactly does that mean?  They gonna send you to the principal's office? Are they going to mock you in front of the entire group?  "You said you were going to do this, but you didn't do it." Take away your desserts?  I don't understand how exactly they're going to hold you accountable.  From my point of view, if you didn't learn this by the time you got out of grade school, (I'll even give you til high school. You might be slow.)  But if you don't understand that there are certain things that you've got to do and have the discipline, the self discipline and the motivation or whatever it is you've got to have that gets you to do what you have to do.  If you don't have that, do not under any circumstances get involved in any type of business.  Because you will fail.  You can't possibly win at business if you have no self discipline.  I'm talking about having no discipline to the extent that you need someone else to hold you accountable for what you said you were going to do.  Now I don't know if your mommy is going to call you up and say:  "Hey, you really got to get up on time and you got to take this action today for your business. You promised your clients you were going to do this thing. And I realized that you don't have any self discipline so I'm holding you accountable to go and do it."  It just doesn't make any sense to me.  So if someone's going to tell me as a benefit, if they're going to hold me accountable, I really have to question what exactly it is they're offering.  I have no idea what that is, but I'd say again, if you need your mommy to call you up and hold you accountable to something, you should not be in business at all.  That's my thoughts for today.  Keep on keepin' on.  I'll talk to you later. I'm out.
