Today's podcast is discussing the mind-body connection and cultivating a healthy mindset with guest Dr. Shafer Stedron. Dr. Shafer is the Host of the inspirational growth, health and healing focused podcast Talks with Dr Shafer. She is a musician turned physician (neurologist), author, Jay Shetty Certified life coach, author and publisher who is passionate about helping people to claim their stories and create the next chapter of the life they truly want. More from Dr. Shafer I grew up in the Midwest and was a professional singer/songwriter/producer from the age of 14-20, with a promising career ahead of me having been accepted to NYU School of Music Business and working in NYC,. I then met a convincing young man and got married at the young age of 20, and my life changed completely. The following two decades, I focused on everything but my marriage in order to stay in it. I moved back to the Midwest, worked three jobs and earned my degree in Psychology, went to Medical School and Neurology Residency at IU, then moved to rural Northern Michigan, far away from family and friends. Over time, I was expected to work outside of the home less and less, and eventually was working only for my spouse and the family. Eventually I recognized that I had to break free of the ever-shrinking world that I had become encapsulated in: I knew I needed to make some big changes, however scary and difficult it may have been. After years of going through a challenging divorce with young children, I learned how to refocus my energy not on my current circumstances and challenges, but forward towards my goals and upon actionable steps to take me there. I helped my daughter publish two books, start a podcast What's Up Young Authors!, and pursue her philanthropic efforts to support wildlife and the humane society. We started a publishing company, the Little House of Dreams, to help young authors make their dreams of writing and publishing their books a reality. I then wrote my book, currently in pre-publication, about a boy who loves his brightly colored blocks, and how his mother relates to her neurodiverse son to help him cope with the normal challenges of the day and connect with him in a way that helps him learn to self-regulate. I became a Certified Life Coach with the Jay Shetty Program and started my life coaching business, helping others reclaim their stories, hone their focus and work in actionable steps towards building their beautiful futures and meeting their goals. I created supportive content from music to reels and articles to share with others going through similar life challenges, and was overwhelmed by positive feedback I received. This led to my creating my podcast, Talks with Dr Shafer, where I share solo episodes with encouraging and inspiring content based on my writings and experiences, as well as guest episodes with inspiring people who are generously using their energy and expertise to help others on their journey of growth and self-awareness. I created an online community, We Don't Tell Our Stories, to support victims of Domestic Abuse and share resources that may help them regain self-awareness and encourage them to reclaim their lives. In today's episode, we discuss the idea of CONEtrolled Systems and how to reclaim your freedom from these paradigms. A CONEtrolled system can be a government, organization, cult, or relationship. Guest Dr. Nava Israel has been researching this topic and provides an amazing perspective. More about Nava: I am a lifelong innovator, entrepreneur, author, researcher, facilitator, speaker, educator, a business and academic consultant, and a social and cultural innovator with a PhD in epidemiology. Here’s who I am beyond titles: I’m a philosopher at heart with an insatiable curiosity for all forms of science, critical thinking, human behaviour, patterns, social justice, true and deep healing, our place in the universe, and the intersections of all the above. In my recent book, CONEtrolled, I’ve integrated nearly forty years of acquired skills, observations, and research into my Cone Model. By exposing this consistent and predictable pattern in a way that anyone can understand and apply to their lives, I’m pursuing my life’s mission to awaken us from our system-induced stupor and create environments driven by open-mindedness, wisdom, compassion, and supportive community. When I’m not too busy promoting worthy causes, delivering workshops, speeches, and writing my books, I travel, read anything authored by great minds, meditate through cooking, and spend time with my loving and inspiring family and friends, not necessarily in that order. In today's episode, I had the pleasure of discussing the benefits of adapting plant-based nutrition with Olivier Mankondo. Oliver is a speaker, author, and weight loss and wellness coach who teaches people how to thrive on a plant-based nutrition. More about Oliver: I have been on a plant-based nutrition since 2016. I happened to be watching a program which showed how animal products aren’t designed for the human mechanism. I've applied this newfound knowledge in my life and was able to cure myself of high blood pressure, severe headaches, chest pains, painful joints, back pains, abscesses, and dandruff, without the use of any medication. Before adopting a plant-based nutrition and applying the newfound knowledge, I weighed 100 kilos (5½ stone) and lost 35 kilos (5½ stone) in 9 months, without surgery or physical exercises (gyms, bootcamps, etc.). After the change in my diet and lifestyle, my health has been optimal and I have not been sick for a single day. After witnessing significant transformations due to the adoption of a plant-based nutrition, Olivier decided to share this powerful message with the world and empower people with this knowledge. On today's episode, we're discussing the healing journey with Chris Wasko who is a Psychic Medium that specializes in Old Souls and Healing from Narcissistic Abuse. Chris also has several workshops and mentorship programs plus provides various services including readings and various modalities of healing. More from Chris My spiritual journey began after an intense and emotional healing process. As I initially worked on healing my mind and body, my spirit started to awaken. I began to hear my maternal grandfather and eventually could see spirits in my mind’s eye. What started as the closing of one door turned into an opening and transformation toward a new version of myself. As I started further developing my skills as a psychic medium, this gift worked it’s way into my every day life. While on playdates or on the phone with friends it became common place for me to hear their inner thinking and that of their children, especially if they were expressing frustration about a behavior. It also was not uncommon for me to catch a glimpse of a past life displaying the behavior being discussed. After sharing the information I was receiving, I would then guide accordingly. This eventually led me to work with old souls and victims of narcissistic abuse. There is a spiritual element that intertwines these two worlds and has led to amazing realizations and healing for my clients. As a spiritual counselor, I help individuals and families understand the behaviors exhibited and what it means for the soul development. As each person is unique, so is every soul and journey. The gift of intuition and connecting on a soul level resides in all of us. I am here to help you tap into and understand your soul. Thank you for trusting me with something so precious. On today's episode, I'm speaking with guest Kim Beam about trusting your intuition and inner guidance. Kim Beam is an intuitive coach, published author, and inspirational speaker. She guides others to tap into their intuition, overcome resistance, deepen their love for themselves, and manifest their dreams. More about Kim At 33, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and that threw everything else into perspective. Hodgkin’s ended up being one of my greatest teachers; it taught me compassion for others in all forms of human frailty, but even more importantly, I gained immense wisdom about self-love, self-compassion, and grace for her weaknesses. When I returned to teaching after overcoming her diagnosis, I was a drastically different person, but my students remained the same - most without drive or direction. Having spent hours in waiting rooms with people who were desperate to live (and a number who survive), the dichotomy of it was too difficult to ignore and I left the teaching profession. I pivoted to earn my Masters degree in Social Work from West Chester University. It was during these studies that I started to put myself back together. I fell in love with the magic that meditation and intuition could manifest, successfully calling in a life I loved. Within my transformation, I realized I was meant to pass along my wisdom to help others feel supported and seen. I have the substantial vision to reach people with the light and hope that this life can be and the storytelling skills to back it up. My goal is to help people trust their intuition to find their joy and manifest the lives they are meant to live. With my intuitive insight, you too can social work your life. On today's episode I had the pleasure of talking to Alexia Antoniadis about overcoming addiction and mental health to build a successful cleaning business. Alexia is the founder of Earth Cleaning, one of Melbourne Australia's most trusted eco-safe cleaning companies. About Alexia After struggling with addiction and mental health issues throughout my time at university, I started working as a domestic cleaner so that I wouldn't need to speak or interact with anyone. I found cleaning to be therapeutic and something I could manage to do to generate income that was tolerable, but never viewed it as a long term opportunity. After COVID-19 I was out of work, and on Centrelink benefits, studying became even more difficult as I was remote learning, had to sit in front of a screen and could not ask questions. After becoming desperate for money I tried many ways of generating quick income until eventually arriving at the conclusion that each income generation would be difficult in it's own way and it was up to me to "choose my hard". So I had the idea to start cleaning again, except this time I would be working independently, and keeping 100% my profits. I spent the last of my savings on an eco-safe cleaning kit and a professional vacuum cleaner, and went to my local office supply store to start printing flyers to drop in letterboxes as this was the only method of advertising I could afford at the time. When I was just 20 years old, I realised the overwhelming demand for good cleaners. this was when I realised I had tapped into something that I could grow until I no longer needed to work. Once I saw this vision in my future, I promised myself I would do whatever it took to get there. I have since grown Earth Cleaning into one of Melbourne's most trusted eco-safe cleaning companies and do not plan on stopping any time soon. We are a registered NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) provider and have expended into industrial and commercial cleaning as well as domestic. Since having been fortunate enough to step away from physical cleaning and focus on management in 2024, my goal is to run Earth Cleaning with integrity and inclusivity, and to transform the service industry and the planet by eliminating the use of one use plastics and harsh chemicals wherever possible. Earth Cleaning engage in charity fundraising to maximise the impact we have on the planets conservation. Based on the philosophy that organisations can spark change on a greater scale than individuals can, she holds the wellbeing of her cleaners physical health and wellbeing as her top priority as the organisation grows and evolves. In an era of young people who are always looking for a quick fix, falling into this experience has taught me that everything is hard in one way or another, and this shouldn't intimidate you into doing what everyone else is doing. There is still something to be said about sticking with something and seeing it through. It is difficult to keep an attention span, maintain faith in yourself and your cause and not compare yourself to others; and even more difficult to be taken seriously as a woman or young person in business, but young people understand the future better than anyone else and have the power to achieve greatness!
